How To Patch Jeans

Instructions

  • Step 1: Trim any threads or frayed ends Trim any loose threads or frayed ends from the area of your jeans being repaired.
  • Step 2: Cut a patch Cut an iron-on patch to approximately one inch larger than the hole or tear.
  • Step 3: Turn your jeans inside out and pin patch in place Turn your jeans inside out and place the patch over the tear. Pin it in place.
  • Step 4: Iron the patch Iron the patch into place, removing the pins as you go
  • TIP: Smooth the denim over the hole or tear as much as possible before ironing the patch into place.
  • Step 5: Stitch around the patch Use a straight stitch with your sewing machine and sew around the edge of the patch.
  • TIP: If you do not have a sewing machine, you can hand stitch the patch into place with a needle and thread.
  • Step 6: Sew around the patch with a zigzag stitch Sew around the patch using a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to prevent further fraying of your jeans.
  • FACT: Did you know? A 115-year old pair of Levi’s was sold for $60,000 in an internet auction on June 15, 2005.
