How to Make a Sword Out of Foam

Instructions

  • Step 1: Cut and sand pipe Cut the PVC pipe with the hacksaw so that it is 30 inches long. Sand the edges and the length of the pipe until it is smooth, and put a small piece of duct tape on either end of the pipe.
  • Step 2: Cut the noodle Cut the swim noodle with the razor blade so that it is 28 inches long.
  • Step 3: Slide on the noodle Put a thin layer of caulk on the pipe and slide the noodle over it, leaving about an inch at the top.
  • Step 4: Make the pommel Cut three inches from the bottom of the noodle for a pommel. Slide this piece to the bottom of the pipe, making space for a grip.
  • Step 5: Make tips Cut the open cell foam to make a tip and an end piece, each two inches thick. Use the razor blade to shape them to fit on the tip and end of the sword, and attach them with strips of duct tape.
  • TIP: Put cellophane over the tip before taping it. This will make it easier to replace the tip later.
  • Step 6: Wrap grip Wrap the grip with electrical tape.
  • TIP: Cover the entire blade with gray duct tape to make it look metallic.
  • Step 7: Poke holes Take the razor blade and poke a few holes in the tape on the tip to let it breathe.
  • FACT: Did you know? The word ‘sword’ comes from an Old High German word meaning ”to hurt.”
