A really fun and wearable project for the no-sewer is a t-shirt necklace. We have a couple here that we’ve made. This one is a nice black and pink braid. We have one here that is with wooden beads.
The first thing that you would need to do if you wanted to make this necklace is to go hunting in your drawers and find some old t-shirts that you don’t wear anymore. We have a couple of t-shirts here today. We’ve chosen a nice lavender color.
A couple of things to think about when you’re choosing a t-shirt is the thickness of the t-shirt. If you’re going to be putting beads on it, you want something that’s not too thick and not too thin. You don’t want it to fall apart, but at the same time, if you’re going to be beading something it might be challenging to fit a bead – we have some beads here – it might be challenging to fit a bead with an opening this wide through a thicker t-shirt. That’s something to keep in mind. But at the same time, you don’t want it to be too thin because you don’t want it to fall apart.
Select some t-shirts. The bigger the t-shirt, the better. This way you have a little bit more fabric to play with, especially if you want a longer necklace. Pick some fun colors and just have a good time.
So let’s get started cutting the strips to make our necklace.
