How to Make a Fake Cut Look Real

Transcript

The way the wax is on her skin, it’s actually fairly flesh-toned, so we’re not going to color with foundation. If you put the wax on and it doesn’t match your skin tone, you can hit it with foundation that matches your skin. But, as you can see, the wax and the spirit gum underneath are a little bit shiny, so I’m going to add a powder to take that shine away. I’m just using neutral-set powder from Ben Nye. I’m going to load my powder brush and tap it out, and then mix that with some powder to take the shine away.

Okay. Now to create some depth within the cut, I’m going to add a really deep dark purple color. I have the Ben Nye bruising wheel, which has some really great colors in it. So I’m going to choose this deep purple, and I’m going to take a really tiny thin angle brush and put it right in the center of that cut. I’m just lightly adding that color in, and that’s what gives it a little bit of depth.

Now I want to choose a brighter red for the blood. This is my fancy professional make-up, but if you don’t have this, or don’t want to spend the money on it, you can get something like this from your local Halloween store. That’s a palette of cream colors that you can use as well.

Also, another tip is, any color you see in this palette you can mix and match so you can create your own colors. And I’m going to put that over the top of the purple. The great thing about using this wax too, is you can make your cut any shape or size. So there’s a little bit of red added into that.

Now what I’m going to do is, I’m going to take a thick blood. Ben Nye makes this. There are some other brands as well. And this is a thick gelatin-like substance. It kind of looks like jelly. Like coagulated blood. And I’m going to take a little tiny bit of that out, and I’m going to add that with the angle brush. It’s really thick, sometimes hard to work with on tiny cuts, so I’m kind of tapping it out of my brush. If it’s easier for you to use something like the edge of a paperclip or something, you can do that as well. Just be sure not to scrape yourself.

And that is how you add the color to a fake cut.
