How to Make a Barrel Stitch Friendship Bracelet with Lanyard

Transcript

Hi, I’m Colleen from The Lanyard Ladies and today I’m going to show you how to do the barrel stitch. I’ve done a few stitches already so it’s easier for me to show you how to do it. So we’re going to be looping with the blue and you’re going to take your blue. It’s coming out of this side of the barrel. And you’re going to place it down to the right side as I’m looking at it of the other blue. And this blue goes up to the left of the first blue. And then you’re going to take your side strings and go over the first and under the second just like you were doing in a box. And you want to go under the closed portion of the barrel stitch right here so it doesn’t fall off the barrel. And this one is going to go over the first blue and under the second in the looped portion and that will give you the barrel.

The barrel stitch is actually the box stitch on an angle. So if you can do the box, you should be able to angle it and do the barrel. Again you’re taking your blue in the opposite direction, but you’re placing it to the right of the other blue. And the second blue goes up to the left of the first blue. And now you’re just going to weave the side line strings over the first blue and under the second into the looped portion. And the same with the other one. Over the first, and under the second. And you pull all four strings together to form your barrel. Once in a while the strings are going to twist. That’s fine. You just have to pull it through and flatten it out and get that twist out of there.

So I’ll show you one more time. The blue comes down, looped to the right of this other blue string, and this one goes up to the left. Now you take your side string and you’re going to go over the first blue and under the second. And this orange string goes over the first and under the second. And you pull all four together, forming your barrel. This is what it looks like if you continue to go a little bit longer. You can actually put a hook like this on this piece and you could use it as a zipper pull or you could keep it like this and go longer and make it a key chain. So that’s how you do the barrel stitch with lanyard.
