How to Make a Backward Knot for a Friendship Bracelet

Transcript

Hi. I’m Colleen from The Lanyard Ladies, and I’m going to show you today how to make a backward knot. You’re going to need two pieces of string. We’ll first put a basic knot in the top of the two strings. Pull it tight. Then we’re going to take our scissors, and we’ll cut one slit at the bottom of the cardboard and one slit at the top. And you can take your string and put it into the slit at the top of the cardboard. You can put a piece of tape on the back to hold the string in place, if you’d like. Then you can insert the cardboard in the clipboard, and you can take one of the strings and attach it at the bottom of your cardboard. Now we’re ready to begin to do the backward knot.

The backward knot looks like the letter D. You can also put a D on your board to remind you what the stitch looks like as you’re doing it. So, you make your D with one color string. You take the end of the string you’re making your D with, tuck it under the center string into the loop of the D, and you pull it up tight. And you make it again. The backward knot is all about making a D. You just keep doing the letter D and you pull it up tight.

You make your D, tuck it underneath into the loop, and you pull it up. Now, if you’re having trouble making a D, you can turn your cardboard sideways and you can make a mountain. And you can stick the string underneath into the mountain, and you pull it up and over to the right. This method works best with the younger children. You tuck it underneath into the mountain and you pull it over to the right. And this is how you make your backward knot.
