How to Cut & Decorate a Bass Made from a Soda Bottle

Transcript

Today we’re making instruments with household items. We’re going to make a soda bottle bass. So what you’ll need is one soda bottle, a bunch of rubber bands, some macaroni, a Popsicle stick, some scissors, some tape.

First thing we’re going to do is we are going to take the soda bottle and decorate it. I decorated mine with pretty flowers, construction paper, stickers. Finished one has some pretty dots on it. Use your imagination, let it go wild. Do whatever you want. It’s kind of fun.

So first thing we’re going to do is we’re going to get a scissor and poke a hole in the bottom of the bottle. Now this is a little bit tricky. It might not come out right away, so what you might need to do is you might need to get a hammer and nail. You might need to get a screw. Just even a pen might work. Put it in the bottom. Finally, when you have hour hole, then we are going to take the bottle, the body of the bottle, and you see I have put four holes here. We’re going to put four holes here. One, two, three, four. And then we’re going to punch with the scissor, we’re going to cut them out. You don’t want the holes to be too big and you don’t want what we’re cutting out to be too big.

So we’re going to now connect the dots and cut a square. The square should be about the size of three fingers. So if before you make the holes you want to try to do three fingers, that’ll work. So we’re going to cut a square inside the box. Okay, so now I have my square in the box. So that’s how you prepare the body of the bass, and next we’re going to show you how to string the bass.
