What Is Acrylic Paint?

Transcript

Hi, I’m Linda. I created a company called Paint Along. Check us out at paintalongnyc.com. We have really fun painting workshops in Nashville and New York. Acrylic paint is pigment in a suspension of acrylic polymers. It’s water based so it’s very user friendly. They’re very different than oils in that the water is the medium. With oils you have to use a turpentine or a paint thinner to wash your brushes and to thin the paint. You can mix water with acrylic to make it behave like a water color. All you have to do is mix more water in with your paint and use them in a thin application. You can also mix a product called a gel in with your acrylics and that makes it heavier and it almost looks and acts more like an oil painting. Acrylic paints are a great way to get started painting. They’re affordable, they’re easy to use, they dry quickly. So go to your craft store, grab some paints, and get started.
