Hi, I’m Linda. I created a company called Paint Along. Check us out at paintalongnyc.com. We have really fun painting workshops in Nashville and New York. I’m going to show you how to do a mottled background; I have two techniques to show you. We’re going to start with a flat brush and we’re going to use two or three different colors of paint. To get started we’re going to take some of the turquoise paint and apply it to the canvas without washing our brush we’ll go to another color, I’m going to pick up the light blue, I’m going to just strike it into the turquoise paint without blending it. So that you can see a difference in the two colors I’m also going to pick up some dark blue again without washing my brush and I’m just going to strike it to the background. I’ll go back and forth in between all three colors until my area is covered. Now that’s one technique for a mottled background. I’m going to show you another one on the other half of the canvas, I’m going to start with the turquoise paint, I’m going to paint a section with the turquoise. I’m going to go to the light blue and put it right next to the turquoise, I’m going to take a small amount of the dark blue and I’m going to put it right next to both of these colors. And the next thing I’m going to do, so I’m going to take this soft mop brush, and I’m going to use this to soften the colors in the lines in between the colors. And you’re just going to lightly brush over this colors until it gives you a very soft effect. Just keep brushing until the colors blend softly together. And that’s how we do a mottled background with Acrylic paint.
