Hi, I’m Linda. I created a company called Paint Along. Check us out at paintalongnyc.com. We have really fun painting workshops in Nashville and New York. I’d like to show you how to paint a sky with clouds, in acrylic paint. We’re going to start by using a two-inch chip brush. We’re going to put the sky in with this brush. We’re going to start with a basic medium blue color, and the top part of the sky is going to be the darkest blue. I’m using very flat, straight strokes going across the sky, and I’m going to bring a little bit of the color down towards the horizon line. I’ve loaded up fairly heavily with the white paint, and I’m now going to go from the horizon line up, and I’m going to blend the white into the blue. You can use quite a lot of paint with this technique so that the colors get a nice blend and you want to cover all the canvas. I’m just brushing it very lightly, so that the streaks go straight across. We’re going to use this one-inch chip, and we like this brush because it is very rough, and this is what gives us our light, airy clouds. We’re going to load it up with some white paint. I’m just trying to keep it on the very tips of the brush, and what I’m going to do is just I’m going to start by tapping into this wet blue paint, and clouds are very random shapes, so you’ve got to kind of go with your imagination, and let the cloud have many different shapes. So, we’re going to take a little bit more white paint, and I’m going to do another layer of clouds on top of this layer, and you can soften the bottom of the cloud by just barely whisping the brush over the bottom of the cloud, and it kind of gives it the look that the wind is kind of blowing through the clouds. Now, as we get further down towards the horizon line you want your clouds to get smaller and closer together. So, I’m just going to tap in a few more of these little guys, softening the bottoms of them just by using flat strokes, and then for the clouds that are closest to the horizon line, I’m just going to use a flat brush. There’s not going to be as much shape to these clouds, there going to be more straight lines, because you don’t see as much detail as it gets further away from you. So, I’m just going to kind of tap in these little guys and let them kind of trail off to nothing, and that’s how you do a basic sky and clouds.
