Instructions
- Step 1: Fold the paper Hold the paper horizontally. Fold it in half so the left edge meets the right. Unfold, and then fold each side toward each other until they meet in the center. Fold the paper in half again, so that it is split into quarters.
- Step 2: Crease the folds Fold the paper in half, this time perpendicular to the other creases you previously made. The paper should now be folded into eighths.
- Step 3: Make some cuts Unfold the paper and hold it vertically. Make six half-inch cuts, one at each edge of the three horizontal creases. There are now four flaps on each side.
- Step 4: Fold the flaps On each side, fold over the second and fourth flaps from the top and crease them.
- Step 5: Trace a diamond Starting about one-eighth inch to the left of the vertical center crease, draw a straight line through the fourth quarter to the end of the page. Repeat to the right of center. Then, in the quarter page directly above, draw a narrow diamond that straddles the middle vertical fold. Leave a one-quarter inch horizontal line at the top of the diamond.
- Step 6: Cut it out Cut out the design you’ve outlined.
- Step 7: Tape it Tape the bottom quarter of the sheet together, so the two pieces are flush with each other. The paper will no longer lie flat.
- Step 8: Refold Refold the paper just like in Steps 1 and 2. The diamond cutout should be on the inside, and there should be two flaps sticking out on each end of the wallet.
- Step 9: Lock the first end Hold the wallet with one end facing you. You should have, starting from the inside and going out, a flap, a pocket, another flap, and another pocket. Fold the inner flap into the first pocket and the outer flap over the first pocket and into the second pocket.
- TIP: For a more secure wallet, tape the flaps into their pockets.
- Step 10: Repeat Repeat with the other end.
- Step 11: Congratulate yourself Congratulate yourself on a job well done. You now have a wallet that holds cash and several credit cards.
- FACT: The earliest wallets, invented in the 1600s, contained only one slot – for calling cards.
