How to Waltz Face to Face

Transcript

Aaron: Hi guys, it’s Aaron.

Kristina: And I’m Kristina.

Aaron: And we are professional dance instructors here in New York City, and today we’re going to be finishing up our series on the waltz with a little thing we like to call face-to-face and back-to-back. So…

Kristina: We are going to start this pattern with the first half of a box into a ladies underarm turn. So, we will start first half of a box. We have one, two, three. We’ll do the ladies underarm turn. One, two, three. One, two, three. And then from here, you want to take over?

Aaron: Yes. Gentlemen, we are going to instead of taking the lady back into a closed position, stay a little bit further back and bring up our right hand so as to offer a visual and a physical cue to, whoa, we’re about to do something completely different here. Now from here we’re going to lead in almost as if we were doing a crossover break in our rumba or salsa or any of our Latin dances, but from here we’re going to have our right foot free, gentlemen, our left foot free for the ladies, and we’re going to step continuously down the line progressing forward together as we turn to face back-to-back.

Forward, side, together. Now from here we have our left foot free, guys, our right foot for the ladies, and we’re going to continue again stepping down the line. Forward, side, close. Now from there we’re just going to take it back for the gentlemen and forward for the ladies and close this step up, going back into our basic action where we can pick the ladies up. One, two three. One, two, three. Now let’s take another look at that. And one, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three. Let’s try that to music.
