How to Do the Change of Hands Behind the Back in Swing Dance

Transcript

Aaron: Hey guys, it’s Aaron.

Kristina: And I’m Kristina.

Aaron: And we’re professional dance instructors coming at you today from New York City, and today we’re going to be dipping back into our swing dance and we’re going to be talking about a little step we like to call the change of hands behind the back. So, for starters we’re going to be starting with a two-hand hold in an open position. Now from here, gentlemen, let’s take a look at this.

We’re going to start with our basic action again. One, two, three and four, five and six. Now from here as we rock back we’re going to prepare to change, rock step, bringing our right arm up and over in front of the lady, grabbing her wrist. Triple step, changing hands again behind the back, triple step, rock step. Now let’s take a look at that from the backside just so we can see that change of hands a little closer. One, two, three and four, five and six. One, two. One more time gentlemen. One, two, triple step, triple step, rock step.

Kristina: And so one thing for the ladies with this move, primarily the gentlemen are the ones doing kind of all of the work, so just kind of be responsive to him and when he’s basically you’re just walking kind of behind him around his back. And you’re literally changing places, so just kind of let him do his thing. Keep your arms with good tone, but let him kind of lead you where he wants you to go so you don’t interfere with him completing his section of this move. Let’s try that to some music.
