Instructions

  • Step 1: Gather around table Gather around a table with a glass of beer in the middle of it.
  • TIP: If all of the players are pros, shoot into a shot glass.
  • Step 2: Shoot quarter The first player holds the quarter between his thumb and index finger, and tries to bounce it on its edge so it lands in the glass. This is called “shooting” the quarter.
  • Step 3: If the shooter scores If a shooter gets a quarter into the glass, he or she gets to pick a person to down the glass of beer, and then gets another turn. If not, it moves to the next person in the circle.
  • Step 4: Making rules If the same person shoots the quarter into the glass three times in a row, he or she gets to make a rule that must be followed by everyone for the rest of the game. If someone breaks a rule, he or she must drink the beer.
  • TIP: Popular rules include banning the words “drink,” “drank,” or “drunk”; forbidding the use of players’ names; and insisting that all players drink before their attempted bounce. You should also never use your finger to “point” at the person you desire to consume the beer. Instead, you point with an elbow in their direction.
  • Step 5: Determining the winner How do you determine the winner? Don’t worry: you’ll know when you’ve lost.
  • FACT: Some courts are now ordering repeat DUI offenders to wear an ankle bracelet that measures their blood alcohol level via their perspiration.

You Will Need

  • At least three people
  • One quarter

How to Improve Your Pinball Skills https://howcast.com/videos/310587-how-to-improve-your-pinball-skills/ Wed, 17 Nov 2010 13:15:25 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/310587-how-to-improve-your-pinball-skills/

Instructions

  • Step 1: Pick your machine Find a machine in good working order, and in a place where you can get lots of practice time.
  • Step 2: Get in position Stand in front of the machine with your feet shoulder-width apart, and position your hands loosely on the flipper controls.
  • TIP: If your body is tense, your reaction time will be slower. Stay relaxed and ready, and don’t lean on the machine.
  • Step 3: Learn the game Play the game several times, paying attention to how the ball behaves and what the display says. Figure out which targets you need to hit to score the most points.
  • TIP: Aim for shots that keep the ball in play for the longest amount of time, as well as those that score the most points.
  • Step 4: Practice using the flippers As the ball comes down the chute toward your flippers, press and hold the flipper to trap the ball in the bend near its base. Release the flipper and press the button again, when the ball is part-way down the flipper, allowing for precision shots.
  • Step 5: Learn the slap save When a ball is headed down the center, between your flippers, activate the flipper closest to the ball first, followed immediately by the opposing flipper. This “slap save” is the best method for saving a ball from the chute.
  • Step 6: Practice nudging and tilting Use your arms and body to nudge the sides of the machine as you play and redirect balls that are headed straight down the middle.
  • TIP: If your nudging activates the tilt sensors, use less force. Tilting may result in a warning, or it may end your game or subtract points you acquired.
  • Step 7: Have fun Try new machines to hone your skills.
  • FACT: Mechanical pinball games were the earliest form of coin-operated games. The electronic pinball machines of today were introduced around 1930.

You Will Need

  • A pinball machine
  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Quarters or game tokens (optional)

Instructions

  • Step 1: Watch before trying Watch another player attempt to control the crane to judge the power and movement of the claw and which prizes are easiest to grab.
  • TIP: Save your money for another day if it appears the prizes are packed in tightly, it’s almost impossible to win.
  • Step 2: Take your time Take your time in deciding which prize to attempt before putting your money in the machine to avoid panicking as the clock ticks down.
  • Step 3: Budget your money Set up a budget to avoid pumping in too much cash for a prize that may not be worth it.
  • Step 4: Aim for neck or chest Aim for the neck or chest of the stuffed animal to try to get the claw all the around the prize and don’t waste time with legs or arms.
  • TIP: Round prizes such as balls must be hit dead center or the claw will cause them to pop out.
  • Step 5: Time the payouts Time the payouts as most machines have a microchip that will give out a prize after a certain number of turns so your patience will be rewarded.
  • FACT: The crane arm on the International Space Station is 57 feet long and has seven separate joints to help maneuver the large capsules into place.

Instructions

  • Step 1: Fill in names on the scoring sheet Fill in the names of the bowlers on your scoring sheet in the order they will be bowling. Notice that each bowler has 10 scoring squares after their name – one for each frame.
  • Step 2: Note pins downed in first roll Record the number of pins that the bowler knocks down in their first roll in the upper-left corner of the square for frame no. 1. Use an X instead of a number to denote a strike, and go on to the second frame without recording a total.
  • TIP: Circle this first number to indicate that the bowler threw a split.
  • Step 3: Record second roll Mark the number of pins knocked down in the second roll in the small square in the upper-right corner. Use a slash to denote a spare.
  • Step 4: Add total pins and write in bottom of square Add the total number of pins downed in the frame if the bowler didn’t throw a strike or a spare. Record this number in the bottom part of the square.
  • Step 5: Wait to total the frame Wait until the next frame to calculate the total if the bowler throws a strike or a spare. They will get credit for pins in the next frame.
  • Step 6: Add next throw to first frame for spare Add 10 to the number of pins knocked down in the bowler’s first throw of the second frame if they threw a spare in the first frame. Write this total in the bottom part of the first frame square.
  • TIP: Two strikes in a row are known as a double. Three in a row is a triple or a turkey. Throw 12 strikes in a row to get a perfect score of 300.
  • Step 7: Add next two throws to first frame for strike Combine the total number of pins knocked down in the two throws of the second frame if the bowler threw a strike in the first. Then add 10. Write this number in the bottom of the first frame square.
  • TIP: A bowler gets a third ball if they throw a spare or a strike in the 10th frame.
  • Step 8: Add total for all frames to get the total game score Add together the total score for each of a bowler’s 10 frames to get their final game score. The highest score wins!

How to Do Trick Shots in Beer Pong https://howcast.com/videos/241318-how-to-do-trick-shots-in-beer-pong/ Wed, 07 Oct 2009 15:16:59 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/241318-how-to-do-trick-shots-in-beer-pong/

Instructions

  • : Find a place for your cup Don’t drink unless you’re of legal age. Drink responsibly, and never drink and drive.
  • Step 1: Find a place for your cup Place your cup in the right spot for your trick. Trick shots involve bouncing the ball off walls and other surfaces, sometimes multiple times. To start, place the cup in a spot where there are many bounceable surfaces nearby.
  • TIP: Fill your cup.
  • Step 2: Use geometry Understand that the key to a trick shot is basic geometry. If you take the time to examine how the way you angle your shot affects its success, you’ll develop a technique that will serve you for many shots of varying difficulties.
  • Step 3: Start with a simple shot Start with a simple trick shot of only one bounce. Pick a surface and give it a try. Note where your ball hits the surface and how that affects the shot. Practice your shot until you master.
  • Step 4: Try multiple bounces Make the ball go in using more than one bounce. Use a level, flat surface and limit the bounces to a single surface. Take note of how the first bounce affects the second bounce.
  • Step 5: Try multiple surfaces When you’ve mastered multiple bounces, shoot the ball off more than one surface with multiple bounces. Take your time and watch how the ball reacts to each surface and each bounce. Keep practicing!

How to Play Ping-Pong https://howcast.com/videos/204643-how-to-play-ping-pong/ Wed, 08 Jul 2009 12:17:13 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/204643-how-to-play-ping-pong/

Instructions

  • Step 1: Decide who goes first Decide who serves first by flipping a coin.
  • TIP: It’s easier to play with two players when first learning the game.
  • Step 2: Serve the ball Start by serving. Hold a paddle in one hand and toss a ball at least six inches up with the other hand. Before the ball bounces on the table, hit the ball with the paddle so that it bounces once on your side of the net, flies over the net, and bounces on your opponent’s side.
  • Step 3: Return the ball Wait for the player receiving the serve to hit the ball back over the net. The ball can only bounce once on the returner’s side of the net. Players continue to hit the ball back and forth until one player commits an error.
  • TIP: Learn to put a spin on the ball when you serve or return it. Spinning the ball makes it harder for your opponent to return it with speed and accuracy.
  • Step 4: Award points Award one point to your opponent for the following errors: your serve does not clear the net; it clears the net but doesn’t hit the other side of the table; or you hit the ball more than once or touch it with your body. If your serve hits the net but the ball still bounces over, serve again with no penalty.
  • Step 5: Alternate serves Alternate serves every two points.
  • Step 6: Play a game Continue playing until one player has 11 points with at least a two-point lead. If one player reaches 11 points and their opponent has 10, play continues until one player gains a two-point lead. In that case, service alternates between the players after each new point instead of after every two points.
  • TIP: Win the match by winning any odd number of games.
  • Step 7: Play doubles Try doubles. In doubles, the player on the right on each team serves. The serve must bounce once on the server’s side, clear the net, and bounce once “cross-court” on the opposing team’s right side. Team players alternate returning the ball, and take turns serving.
  • FACT: The speed of a ping-pong ball in a champion match can approach 70 miles per hour.

You Will Need

  • A coin
  • Two or four players
  • A ping-pong table
  • Paddles
  • Ping-pong balls

How to Play Blackjack https://howcast.com/videos/189159-how-to-play-blackjack/ Wed, 03 Jun 2009 14:04:54 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/189159-how-to-play-blackjack/

Instructions

  • : Several states bar all gambling, including pools in which the organizer does not profit. Know your local laws
  • Step 1: Know the rules Know the rules. Blackjack is a counting game. Face cards are worth 10 and aces are worth one or 11. The values of number cards are their numbers. The goal of Blackjack is to get closer than the dealer to a total of 21 without going over.
  • Step 2: Select a dealer Select a dealer and place your bets. Dealer selection can be accomplished by the first Ace method. A random player deals one card to each player around the table (person the left first) and continues until a player gets an Ace. That player dealt the first Ace becomes the dealer until another player gets blackjack. The deal will then pass to first player who got blackjack.During
  • Step 3: Deal The dealer deals one card face down, then one card face up, to each player, beginning from the left.
  • TIP: Under alternate rules, players may receive both cards face down and make their initial bet after the first card has been dealt.
  • Step 4: Hit, stand, or go bust Tell the dealer “hit” if you were dealt a low hand and want another card. Repeat this as many times as you wish, or until you “bust,” which means you went over 21. Tell the dealer “stand” if you don’t want any more cards.
  • Step 5: Resolve the dealer’s hand Once every player has either declared a stand or busted, the dealer shows his face-down card. If the hand is worth less than 17, the dealer must take cards until his card total reaches at least 17.
  • Step 6: Finish the game A player wins if his hand is closer to 21 than the dealer’s, or if the dealer busts. If the dealer ties with a player, it’s considered a “push.” The player’s original bet is returned and nobody wins.
  • FACT: Both France and Italy claim to be the birthplace of blackjack, but the game’s exact origins are unknown.

  • Deck of cards

How to Sink a Pool Ball https://howcast.com/videos/172428-how-to-sink-a-pool-ball/ Wed, 15 Apr 2009 10:17:24 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/172428-how-to-sink-a-pool-ball/

Instructions

  • Step 1: Watch the pros Spend some time watching pool tournaments. See what tricks you can pick up from studying the pros.
  • Step 2: Chalk your cue Chalk your cue before each shot, holding the chalk at a slight angle as you gently brush it onto the tip. Don’t chalk from side to side, and don’t spin the tip into the chalk.
  • TIP: If a ring develops below the ferrule, which is the band right below the tip, you’re not chalking correctly.
  • Step 3: Line up the shot While getting into your shooting stance, line up the shot with your chin.
  • Step 4: Keep the cue level Hold the cue as level as possible. The forearm of your dominant hand should be at a 90-degree angle to the floor.
  • TIP: Keep a loose hold on the cue; gripping it too tightly will ruin your shot.
  • Step 5: Straighten your head Make sure your head is pointing straight ahead. Amateurs tend to tilt their head in the direction of their dominant eye, which throws off their aim.
  • TIP: Press down on the fingertips of the hand that’s on the table, so that your arm doesn’t move when you make your shot.
  • Step 6: Pull your arm back slowly As you begin your shot, pull your arm back slowly and steadily, as if you were drawing back a bow and arrow.
  • Step 7: Fire! Keep the cue steady as you hit the ball, and stay in position until the ball (hopefully!) falls into a pocket.

How to Break a Rack in Pool https://howcast.com/videos/169686-how-to-break-a-rack-in-pool/ Tue, 07 Apr 2009 07:47:44 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/169686-how-to-break-a-rack-in-pool/

Instructions

  • Step 1: Position cue ball Position the cue ball as close as you can to the head string, the imaginary line behind which you have to shoot. You can usually spot the best place to put your ball by looking for the telltale wear marks on the cloth.
  • Step 2: Hold the cue correctly Hold the cue correctly, which means as level as possible with the tip poking through a loop made with the thumb and forefinger of your non-dominant hand. The forearm on your dominant hand should be at a 90-degree angle to the floor.
  • TIP: You can get a special cue made just for breaking. Many players choose a slightly lighter, faster one.
  • Step 3: Aim at the center of the cue ball Aim your cue so that it will hit the cue ball at dead center. Hitting the ball even a fraction to the side will result in a bad break.
  • TIP: The tip of the cue should be about an inch from the cue ball.
  • Step 4: Target the head ball Target the closest or “head” ball, which is usually the number one ball.
  • Step 5: Stand up straight with knees bent Stand up straighter than you normally would when taking a shot, but keep your knees bent.
  • Step 6: Experiment with backswings Experiment with different backswings. Some pros like to reach their arm back a few inches farther than usual when they break, while others like to shorten their reach.
  • TIP: Bring your arm back slowly and steadily when getting ready to hit the cue ball.
  • Step 7: Push your body forward Hit the cue ball as hard as you can while still maintaining accuracy. Move your hips and torso forward for more power, and follow straight through with the cue. If you’re doing it right, your back foot should end up in a little kick.
  • TIP: At the moment your cue hits the cue ball, your forearm should be at a 90-degree angle to your cue.
  • Step 8: Test your focus Test your focus. Break a few times while looking at the cue ball, then break while focusing on the head ball. Use whichever style works better for you.
  • Step 9: Practice Practice over and over, noting how the balls are breaking so you can adjust your speed or stance. In a standard break of a rack of 15 balls, you’re most likely to sink the two balls directly behind the head ball. If you’re getting wild results, try hitting with less power.

  • Step 1: Find a dart board Go somewhere that has a dart board. Nearly any normal bar will do.
  • Step 2: Pick up darts & stand behind oche Pick up the darts, and stand behind the oche, the line marked by tape or paint.
  • Step 3: Set up players or teams Set up your players or teams. Each player or team gets three darts. If there are not enough darts to go around, alternate who uses them.
  • Step 4: Warm up Official dart rules allow for a warm-up by throwing up to nine darts per person.
  • Step 5: Decide who goes first To decide who goes first, each person throws one dart at the board. Closest to bulls eye goes first.
  • Step 6: Throw your 3 darts Once the game begins, take your turn by throwing your three darts.
  • Step 7: Grip dart To throw a dart, hold the barrel between your thumb and index and middle fingers, lightly enough that you’re not squeezing it.
  • Step 8: Raise throwing arm Raise your throwing arm up, so that your upper arm is nearly parallel to the ground and your elbow is pointing forward.
  • Step 9: Put foot forward Put forward the same foot as your throwing arm.
  • TIP: Your weight should remain on your forward foot.
  • Step 10: Extend forearm Extend your forearm, being careful to keep your elbow and upper arm in place.
  • Step 11: Release dart Release the dart just before the top of the motion, causing a nice fluid arch trajectory.
  • TIP: If a dart misses the board completely, it’s counted as one of your three throws.
  • Step 12: Calculate your score Calculate your score. In an official game, the inner bull’s-eye is 50 points, the outer bull’s-eye is 25, and the numbered sections are scored according to their assigned point value written on the board, from 1 to 20.
  • TIP: If you hit the outer colored portion of a section, it usually doubles the points. If you hit the inner colored portion, it triples the points.
  • Step 13: Remove darts Remove your darts and allow the next player his turn.
  • Step 14: Alternate turns Alternate turns with the other players until whatever game you’re playing ends, like choosing a set score and subtracting your points off until the first person reaches zero.

Instructions

  • Step 1: Find an open table If there is an open table, snag it by placing your quarters into the slot and dispensing the balls.
  • TIP: If there is a line for tables, mark that you have ‘next game’ by placing a quarter into the placeholder on the side of the table.
  • Step 2: Decide on rules Decide on teams and ‘house’ rules, like if a shot has to be called for it to count.
  • TIP: There are many choices for pool cues, but basically the longer one’s arms, the longer the cue you should choose. And make sure the tip is in good shape.
  • Step 3: Rack balls Rack the balls by arranging them in an alternating pattern, or stripes and solids, with the 8 ball in the middle.
  • Step 4: Tighten rack Tighten the rack by rolling it back and forth a few times, then move the front tip to the black rack mark on the table and remove the frame.
  • Step 5: Break the rack The first player or team breaks the rack by hitting the white cue ball from the opposite rack mark at the balls.
  • Step 6: Shoot again If a ball goes in on the break, the player takes another shot, now aiming for whichever type—stripe or solid—he got in.
  • TIP: If he sank both stripes and solids on the break, he gets to choose which pattern he will try to sink.
  • Step 7: Alternate shots If the player doesn’t sink a ball on the break, players alternate shots until someone does.
  • Step 8: Continue until missed shot A player’s turn continues until he misses a shot.
  • Step 9: If a player sinks the cue ball If a player sinks the white cue ball, the opposing player takes over shooting. He may place the cue ball anywhere on one side of the table between the rack mark and the fence, and may only strike a ball on the opposite side of the table.
  • Step 10: If a player sinks the 8-ball If the 8-ball is unintentionally sunk during normal play, the other player automatically wins.
  • TIP: When setting up your shots, pay attention to where the 8-ball is and anticipate where the cue ball will ricochet as to not sink the 8-ball by accident.
  • Step 11: After sinking all your balls After sinking all the balls of your pattern, you must sink the 8-ball.
  • Step 12: If cue ball sinks when trying to sink 8-ball If the cue ball sinks while attempting to sink the 8-ball, the opponent automatically wins.

  • Step 1: Hold unopened beer Hold an unopened can of beer on its side, on your palm. If you’re up for a little competitive speed drinking, stand with your friends in a circle.
  • TIP: Use light beer–it goes down easier–that’s not too cold, or you’ll get a brain freeze.
  • Step 2: Puncture hole Puncture a small hole that your mouth can easily fit over near the bottom of the side of the can that’s facing you.
  • TIP: If there isn’t a knife available, use a can opener, a pen, or a set of keys.
  • Step 3: Put mouth over hole Put your mouth over the hole, and turn the can upright.
  • Step 4: Pop can open When you’re ready to drink, pop the top of the can open with your free hand.
  • Step 5: Drink quickly Start drinking as fast as you can. The air coming in from the opened top will force all the beer out the bottom hole very quickly–like in 3 to 5 seconds!
  • Step 6: Throw can on floor Throw your can on the floor as soon as you’re finished. Even if you’re first, if beer spills out, you lose!
  • FACT: Studies have shown that drinking beer–in moderation–can reduce a person’s chance of stroke and heart and vascular disease.

You Will Need

  • Can of beer
  • Sharp knife
  • Can opener
  • pen
  • or key (optional)

How to Play Beer Pong / Beirut https://howcast.com/videos/2035-how-to-play-beer-pong-beirut/ Wed, 27 Feb 2008 11:14:38 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/2035-how-to-play-beer-pong-beirut/

Instructions

  • Step 1: Fill cups with beer Fill 20 cups a 1/3 of the way or less with beer.
  • Step 2: Arrange cups Arrange the plastic cups in two triangles of 10 cups each on opposite ends of the table with the tips pointing toward the center.
  • Step 3: Pick teams Pick two-person teams, one for each end of the table.
  • Step 4: Toss ball into cup One person begins the game by trying to toss a ping-pong ball in one of other team’s cups; it doesn’t matter which one.
  • TIP: The toss is all in the wrist: hold the ball at about eye-level, lean in, and lob it up so it drops down into the cup.
  • Step 5: Drink beer or next turn If the ball makes it in, a member of the opposing team has to drink the cup of beer it landed in. If the ball misses, it’s the other team’s turn.
  • Step 6: If ball lands in empty cup … If you accidentally throw the ball into your opponents’ already-empty cup, you have to drink one of your own beers.
  • TIP: Set aside a cup filled with water on each side of the table so the ball can be rinsed off if it lands on the floor.
  • Step 7: Reform triangles Reform the triangle as you play: When there are only six cups of beer on a side, make a smaller triangle. Then do so again when there are only three cups.
  • Step 8: Winning Keep going until one team wipes out all the cups on the other side. As the winner, they get to make the losers drink the remaining cups on their own side!
  • FACT: Seventy-seven percent of college students call the game ‘Beer Pong,’ while only 23% use the moniker ‘Beirut.’
