How to Play the Double Drag Tap on the Drums

Transcript

A third drag rudiment that you’re going to experience is called the double drag tap. It incorporates a single drag as well as a single drag tap, but after you drag twice on your stick, on your grace note stick. So the way that it’s going to sound is basically you’re going to do a single drag, followed by a second single drag, and a tap on the opposite side of your body.

If you set up in the flam’s position, which is your strong stick up first, and your weak stick closer to the head, and you drag, and we’re going to play this open, you will drag, do it again, and tap on the opposite side. I’m going to do it open first slow, and then I’ll speed it up a little bit.

Now just like single drags and drag taps, you can also play this closed in which your grace notes are not as open, they are more buzzed. So if you say the term double drag tap to yourself it’s pretty easy, you just remember double drags are two drags followed by a tap on the opposite side of your body.
