“Magic Tricks: How to do the 6 and 9 Card Trick

My name is Ben Nemzer and I’m a magician. One of my specialties is close-up magic, which is magic with ordinary objects, decks of cards, ropes, rubber bands, and I do that all over New York City. I’m gonna teach you some of the basics of magic that you guys can start performing right away.
This is the Six and Nine Card Trick and I’m gonna do it for my lovely assistant over here. Now would you do me a favor? Take these two cards and put them in any two places in the deck that you’d like. And to find them, 1 – 2 – 3, there they are. Amazing! Now here’s the secret, now once again this trick has a secret set up, now you have to take out four different cards. You need the nine of hearts, the six of diamonds, and then you also need, the six of hearts and the nine of diamonds. Now you might be catching on to the secret, cause this pair of cards, although their very different, look very similar to this pair of cards, and here’s what sells the illusion. This is the nine of hearts and the six of diamonds, which means one card’s a six and one card’s a nine. Also here we have one six and one nine. Now a nine looks like a six upside down and on every nine there happens to be an upside down nine, and on every six there happens to be an upside down six. So this; Although! one is hearts and one is diamonds and one is hearts and one is diamonds, you can do this with any regular deck and you don’t need any extra cards. Now here’s the secret set up before the trick starts you take one of the pairs and you separate it by putting one on the bottom and putting one right on top. Then you take the pair that you’re going to lose and you place them right on top. You start off, and you don’t have them pick a card you just say, we’re gonna use these two cards, now you don’t wanna say we’re going to use the six of hearts and the nine of diamonds, because when you find the other cards their gonna catch on that they’re two different cards. And you show them like this, you don’t say memorize them, you don’t wanna be too quick like this, but you just show them to everybody, and you say place them in two different spots in the deck. Now if they happen to place one on the top or the very bottom you just say, no no put it somewhere in the middle so it’ll be more difficult to find. And this is the move use to find the cards. You hold your hand like this, almost like a duck. You hold it on the top and the bottom, then I like to imagine it’s a big sandwich and the top and bottom is the bread and you’re gonna pull out all the meat and cheese and you just toss it, and you loosen your hands just a little bit, and then you’ll hang on to these two cards. This part you might wanna practice on your bed because if you mess it up the cards go everywhere, with just a little bit of practice you should be able to do it, just fine. And that’s how you do the 6 and 9 Trick.
