Whassup, everybody. My name is Kid Glyde. I’m the leader of the Dynamic Rockers, pretty famous B-Boy. I travel around the world, I organize events. I’ve been dancing for 15 years. So I think I’m pretty credible to teach you. Be positive, be strong, let’s do it.

All right, so now check it out! You’re gonna take all these moves that you’ve been learning. Right?
All of these moves, which are a lot! [Chuckles] And now you are going to freestyle them. You know. It’s not that easy, but basically, the way I look at it. It’s like, all right. If I wanna go out and I wanna do let’s say swipe into a windmill, and if I want to do a freeze.

You know I have all that planned out. Right? But in between, I do the freestyling depending on what kind of music it is. If I know that some, I’ll be like, “Oh, I know that song!” There’s a certain part, which I can like do a freeze to, or do a certain move to. You know, that makes it go with the song. Where everybody is like, “Oh, that was creative!” You know you want to be creative.

So, the best way to show you is if I have some music. All right?
So, after this song played. So, here we go. So, so I’m listening. Right? [rhythmic humming and dancing]. You hear that. Huh? Dum-dum bap, dum-dum bap. [Dancing]
OK. So, I’m going to do a swipe, but I’m just gonna freestyle. And then later on, I’m gonna do a windmill. But it’s all gonna be freestyle. Check it out! [Dancing]
You know what I’m saying.
All that in between was freestyling. ‘Cause that’s how I felt at that certain time when the song was playing. That’s how you do it.

So now when you are battling, it’s a different world. All these moves and all these things we are going to be doing is different. You want to freestyle, but you also want know how to burn the person, so you want to smoke them. Smoking them is beating them, obviously, there is no chance. So you do that by throwing burns. Burns are all imaginary, we are exaggerating everything, we are being creative. So a burn will be something like, I grab you, shake you, throw you on the floor and then stomp and mush you on the floor. And then give yourself back, you are all messed up. This is all imaginary, so iI’m not telling you to do it. Pull a knife, cut the person, put the knife back down. It could be something pretty funny, pretend to pull your pants down, or whatever it is and then laugh back (ha ha ha), or whatever it is. Burns can be even more complex with more hard moves, say you take off your shirt while doing a head spin, or you are doing a whole round with just one hand. And you just move and do everything you can with just one hand. It’s like telling the person dancing against you that its so easy that I can do it using one hand — that’s a burn. This is just a way to antagonize your opponent, like boxing or taunting. So that’s a burn. Work on it, be creative, don’t take other people’s burns. Make up your own, there is a lot of stuff you could do. Be creative.

It’s hard to be on top. There is different eras, there’s different crews, different people that have inspired many. Back in the day, the top crews in New York were Rock Steady, Dynamic Rockers, and New York City Breakers. Those were the top three crews that influenced the world. And later on of course, they had people that stood out in those crews like, Kid Freeze, Wavy Legs, my father Glyde, Crazy Legs Ken Swift, Kuriaki, Buck 4, Chino. There are so many people back then that made it happen. Icy ice, who was Little Glyde. Later on different generations, like when the dance travelled to the West Coast, you had the L.A. breakthroughs making a lot of noise and pushing the limits as far as power moves. They were taking it to the next level. New York was more about traditions, while the West Coast was more about pushing their limits and doing the moves. Once it hit Europe, you had people like Storm and Crazy who just annihilated everybody. Then when it travelled to Korea, oh man, talk about pushing limits, these guys were killing it. These guys were taller than me. They were flying, and they were just doing all these crazy moves. Like Gamblers, you had Hong 10 who is considered one of the best now. He’s won that big competition BC1. We have Lilou, we have Moreys from the U.S. killing stuff. These guys are killing it around the world, wherever they go. We have Lil G from Venezuela, South America, Neguin who just won Red Bull BC1 and other competitions. He’s my homie right there. So all these names, they are very influential, and this could be you. You could be that person that influences all these B-Boys.

What is B-Boying? B-Boying to me is a lifestyle it’s…it’s everything to me. I mean it’s how I live, how I sleep, how I eat you know. I mean there’s so much to it. What B-Boying is…is something that came from the ‘hood, from the ghetto, when people had nothing. You know, and they did something with nothing, basically, you know, they just heard music, and they created something, created something that changed the world or basically influenced everybody. There’s dancers all over the world. I mean, basically B-Boying to me is just a way of expressing yourself when you have nothing, it’s the best way of expressing myself. And B-Boying is who I am, there’s no format to it, you could add anything you want with this dance. That’s the only dance that I know of that has no limits and no boundaries. B-Boying has made so many movements and so many strides to where it is right now, the dancers. It’s incredible. A lot of the old pioneers that I talked to, ’cause I talked to a lot of them, they just, they never knew dance would be as big as it is now and they never knew that we’d be doing the moves that we do now, you know like, people are…are defying gravity now, you know, and their just…they’re just making it happen, they were making anything happen, with just their bodies, you know. It’s not like we have special equipment to make us super strong. This is what we do, we do it with our own strength, you know, and you never thought humans would be able to do this, you know. And that’s what B-Boying is, you know, breaking boundaries, breaking rules, you know, and it’s just incredible where it is right now. It’s underground community, its around the world, it touches everybody, everybody’s united. We all battle each other, we go crazy, and it looks like were about to fight, but when the battle’s over, the bestest of friends, straight up. You know like, we’re like, “”Yo that battle was crazy man. You did your thing. Me too, man, I had a great time.”” You guys show each other respect just because of the love we all know we all have ’cause we all know it, you know. You could feel it, you could sense it when somebody dances. You’re like, “Damn did you see that? Did you see that?” You know and it’s because that person loved what he did, and he put so much energy into it, and that’s what breaking is.

It’s not easy running a battle, but it can be done. It takes a lot. It definitely takes a lot. The number one thing that I’ve always realized is stamina. If you work on what you’ve got, over and over again, and work on your stamina, and how you breathe during the moves, you’ll do fine. I’ve been in the finals plenty of times where I got tired and I wasn’t able to win because I was tired. You know because when you’re tired you’re not going to be able to do your moves, you know. If you’re not tired, you can do anything. You know, and even if it’s a move that you can’t, I mean, if it’s a move that you got down pat, where, like, you can do it whenever, especially when you’re tired, it’s the best time to do it when you’re tired. So if you got all these moves, and you practice them all the time when you’re tired, you’ll be able to do it. But as far as winning, you need strategy, you need a game plan, you need to know what you’re going to do. You need to know what your opponent can do. You need to know your opponent’s weaknesses. You also need to know about your weaknesses, so that you don’t fall into that. Say, if you’re battling somebody and they do something you can’t do. If you can’t do it better, don’t do it, alright? Stick to what you’ve got, alright? Make the other person do that to you. You do something they can’t do and make them do what you can do, alright? To win a battle, you have to have strategy. You’ve got to know what you’re going to do. If you don’t have a Plan A, Plan B, or Plan C, then, I don’t know how you’re going to win. You know, you have to have something ready on the…I mean if Plan A doesn’t work, then you’re, like, “Damn! What am I going to do now?” You have to have a Plan B! Plan B usually works. If not, Plan C will come into play, you know? And what’s the worst that’s going to happen? You’re going to lose? You’re going to lose anyway if you didn’t have a plan. So, if you have a plan, you have a better chance of winning. Once again, stay focused, you know, be strong, and don’t be discouraged when somebody…no matter what, somebody’s going to do something incredible in front of you. It’s up to you to respond to that, and do something incredible as well too.

I believe a lot of people want to join their favorite crew, and it’s hard to do that because, one: Crews are usually your family. I’m sure once they get good, everybody wants to be a part of that crew. Like, if that crew means a lot to them, then they wouldn’t just accept anybody. So, it’ll be hard. I mean, you can prove to a crew that you can be down with them, but it’s gonna be a lot of hard work. Just like the time it took to get all those moves, it’s gonna take maybe longer or the same amount of time to get into a crew. Unless, you start your own crew.

Starting your own crew, you can do that by going to practice sessions or finding other B-Boys and getting to know B-Boys. And if you guys have a certain bond or a certain vibe with each other, and you guys, you know, hang out a lot or whatever it is you guys like to do, then I’m sure you guys can create your own crew. You know? And, whatever you expect from breaking, you should be able to expect from your crew. You know, if your crew wants to become a big crew, then you have to be around those kind-of people.

You have to be around people that want to be big. If you want to be around people that just want to dance, then find people that just want to dance. And that, you know what I’m saying, you could be a part of that crew. So, one: you could start your own crew. Or two; become a member of another crew which, will take time. So, those are your two options.

All right, now if you want to be a B-Boy, you know, I have a lot of advice. First, definitely learn about the history of the dance, you know? If you want to be a part of it you should know about it, you know? It’s necessary.

Learn about it. Find out where it started. Find out who you want to learn from. You’d be like, you can just look at somebody’s style and be like, “Wow! I want to learn from him. He inspired me.” So you go and learn from that person. That person, if they teach you, they teach you. Or if they don’t, then you learn from somebody that learned from them. Or you could just watch them. But do not bite.

Biting is basically taking someone else’s move. You know, basically when somebody does something, and they do it where everyone else can see it, is basically a copier. They’re known for that, you know? So, don’t do that.

So, to be a B-Boy you have to learn about the dance. Be a part of the dance. Be patient. You have to work diligently. You have to be consistent, you know, it takes time. So be patient. And just work hard, you know? Go to events. Support the community and just be there, you know?

To become a B-Boy you have to live it. You have to feel it, you know? Once you feel it you’ll, you’ll understand. And you’ll know, like, “Wow! I feel like a B-Boy.” It doesn’t happen overnight. It doesn’t. So don’t have any expectations to have it tomorrow or “I want to be a B-Boy,” and you go out and buy some gear and the hat and listen to some CD’s and be a B-Boy. No. You have to live it.

So, respect the culture. Respect the dance and be a part of it.

Now, I know this whole time, you’ve been hearing me say the word cipher, and been wondering, “What is a cipher, what is he talking about?” I’m going to explain it to you right now! A cipher is basically a circle, where all the B-Boys are in, alright? This is where we all dance. We create a circle, and one by one, we take turns dancing within the cipher. The cipher is where we get down, basically. I mean, that’s the key word, cipher is like “Yo, let’s go cipher.” So we can say “Let’s go cipher,” meaning, “Let’s go into the circle and do our thing.” With one word, we just said that. “Let’s go cipher.” You know, that’s what we do. That’s what we call a cipher. So, a cipher is where everybody, not just our crew. I mean, you could have your own cipher within your crew, but you can’t have a cipher with just two people, because that’s not a circle. You need at least five people, or maybe four. You could probably do it with four. But, yeah. So cipher is where we get down, get busy, and, you know, we exchange how we feel according to the music at that moment and given time.

Alright so check it out, there’s elements with in this dance, can you believe that? There’s a bunch of elements you’ll need to know.
The first one is Toprock. Toprock is very important, that’s how you get into the circle or the cipher and represent who you are, this is like your first impression to everybody okay. Second is Footwork. Footwork is basically all the stuff on the ground that requires your hands on the floor and at the same time you move your doing patterns with your feet okay going around in circles, going side to side whatever the case may be your doing patterns and playing with the music. Freezes. Freezes are basically how you end your statement. This is how you finish usually. You can pause in the middle of your rounds doing freezes. Sometimes it’s a break or just a big boom, or you know maybe it could be like an exclamation mark. Whatever it is, a freeze is like when you stop in a weird position,or a difficult position, or just a simple position. A freeze is just stopping, you know. It’s self explanatory.
Power Moves. Power moves are the eye candy of the dance. They’re the big moves, they’re the spins they’re just the dynamics of it. You know, the crazy, crazy moves. These are the four traditional elements, okay. Later on, the dance evolved and other things were added, such as tricks, you know. There’s flow, well flow was always there. Flow is basically how you go in and out of your moves okay. It’s basically the consistency of patterns and how you flow from one thing to the next. Tricks, just like it sounds. It’s kind of like a power move, but it’s not. It’s like taking a freeze, then just doing something crazy with it or just doing something you didn’t expect. It usually happens like that (snaps fingers). Unexpected and very powerful, makes the crowd go crazy ’cause they’re like, “”What was that?”” You know, ’cause it was a trick, it happens like that. These are a few elements that are part of the dance. And you know also be yourself, like have your own character and style. That’s a very important element of the dance. It shows who you are, you know. Tt shows your creativity and originality, which is another important part. Originality and all these other elements go into each other.
So once again the four main elements: Top Rock, Footwork, Freezes and Power Moves. These are very important if you want to be a well rounded B-Boy you have to work on these elements amongst others but these are very important. Get ’em.

Right now, I’m about to show you one of my signature moves. I called it air glide. It’s also called a gremlin or flagpole. This was before I knew what it was because, I was pretty young when I first did it. You know, I was like a teenager, probably 16-17 and I actually did the move by accident. Me and my pop’s were like, “Yo, what is an air glide?” You know, after all the glides we made up. So, that happens a lot with moves you know, people make up moves, they don’t know that it was already done, and they just put names to it. So, right now I’m going to show you the air glide and it’s basically me putting my hand down like this and just spinning around my hand. My hand stays stationary as I spin on it and my legs, I mean my whole body is just spinning around. Alright? It’s pretty insane.

So, I’m going to start real quick, kind of like I’m about to do a flare alright? I put my hands down, (my palm down) and right away with no momentum, (I create some momentum), and I just spin around like that. Alright? So, watch it very carefully. So, palm on floor, and I spin around. Alright? Let’s do it again. And watch how my body is kind-of tight and my hands up in the air trying to counter balance my weight. Alright, so that was a pretty fast version. You can do it slow, you can do it fast depending on how you want to do it. So, you just saw the air glide, one of my favorite moves, and try it out!

Now, we’re getting into toprock basics. Toprock is basically your introduction to your story. You know, you go in and this is how you introduce yourself in the cypher, you know, amongst your peers of dancers and that’s it. You just go in, represent, show what you can do, toprock, bam! Before you hit the floor, you have to show everybody what you’re about right away. You can’t just hesitate, no hesitation. Just go in there and have a good time. Toprock basics, you can do your Indian step, side step, that’s basically what your doing on top, before you hit the floor. You know it’s just showing your rhythm, your dance, before you get down. You know what I’m saying? It’s, as far as breaking. So, now we’re gonna do some basic toprock steps in the next few videos.

Now it’s time for the flare. It’s not an easy move. Let’s go, we need to practice this. This takes time. It took me a few months to get this. First move I’m going to show you is the helicopters; we fuse into each other, right, which kinda works on the whip for the flare. Just gets you ready for it, right. It doesn’t look like a flare but it gets you ready for it. Your right leg is going, well this is just the way I go at it, I use my left hand so, everything is to my left, even though I’m a righty. My right leg’s going to go to the left, alright. My left leg’s going to do a reverse helicopter, right. So, it’s going to look like this. One, two, like that. So, one, two, one, two, alright. So that’s how you do it. That’s just a regular whip. You keep doing that you’ll learn how to go around your body, use the whip, alright. Once you practice that enough we’re going to go right into the regular flare. Alright, once again I use my left hand. Put my left hand down, alright, in the middle of the both my legs that are bent, alright. I’m centered. like playing football so that my hand go down to the left with my left hand. So my left leg’s going to kick around, bang, like that, as soon as that happens my right leg’s going in the air. My right leg goes up my left leg goes even higher, alright. Whap and then this leg’s going to keep going here, alright. so, now I’m being in the air, alright, so it’s kind of hard to explain while I’m in the air. So, the first part looks like this, ok. See how I put my right hand down right away, you have to be faster than your hands, alright. Left, right, left, right. You have to be fast because your legs their going fast. So, as soon as you left leg goes up, your right leg that’s up already goes back and at the same time your left leg goes around again to start over the whole motion. Going up, my leg up, my left leg up, right leg back, left leg goes under, right leg goes up, left leg goes back up. So, I’m going to show you how to do it. Alright, so how each leg follows and my hands are right away they’re ready bam, bam, bam. Let’s do it again. And that’s the flare so keep practicing. It’s going to take a while but be determined and you can get it, the flare.

Now that we’ve got our baby freeze, I hope you guys are ready for the reverse baby freeze. Alright. Same concept, but you’re gonna switch the legs, alright? So your right leg that’s out is gonna switch. And your left knee is gonna touch your right elbow, alright? So it’s gonna look like this, alright? Your new baby freeze, and you’re gonna kind of lift up your hips and switch, just like that, alright? So, it’s gonna be difficult. I’m gonna show you guys an easy way to get into it. Some, some people get this before our regular baby freeze. But try it like this, alright? So, once again, I’m a righty, I’m gonna go to my left, alright? I’m gonna put my left elbow in my hip. And there’s, like, a little socket right there, alright? And your right elbow is gonna go to your left knee, like that, alright? This is how you’re gonna hold yourself, alright? So, if I do that, I’m gonna lean onto my hands. And once again, I’m gonna put my left temple on the floor, alright? Like that, so you’re gonna kind of have to do a little hop. So, you don’t have to go from here to here, you’re already here, alright? So, it’s pretty simple, it’s pretty easy. And I bet you guys can probably get this before the baby freeze. So try it out, reverse baby freeze.

We are here to learn the Indian step. One of the top rock basic moves. First move everybody learns, Indian step. Pretty simple. Follow me. Stay centered, have your legs spread out length apart. First your arms are together real quick, like this, and your right legs going across to your left, and at the same time you’re going to bend your left knee. So your right leg goes across — bam — and your arms spread out as you cross. So once again, cross. Then you go back to your center, and you go to the other side with your left leg crossing your right leg and your right leg bending. Your arms opening up at the same time. All right and your go back. Bam, bam, this is the Indian Step. Boom, all right add a little flavor to it and you got it, you know. Add a little bounce, bam bounce, bounce. Add a little bend, you know what i’m saying, you want to just add a little style and your own flavor and your got it Indian step. bam bam. Keep practicing it. Oh! my friends always do with some music. My favorite thing to do to get into the groove is two step. You know as soon as I get comfortable and I jump up that side foot right away, cross one two right leg to the left — bam — left leg to the right. I’m saying you get the Indian step add that little bounce — bam, bam — all right so you character so you love this. Bend your knees — bam — and there you go that’s the Indian step.

Right now we’re gonna learn everybody’s favorite move, the worm! Yay. It’s not a move that a lot of B-Boys do, but it’s a move that everybody wants to see, as they think that BBoys are the best at it. Haha. But yeah I mean it’s a fun move, it gets everybody, you know, like, drawn to it, you know. I think it’s like one of those moves that make you laugh. So, worm. It’s pretty silly because you could hurt yourself if you do it wrong. Alright, so right now you’re gonna start in a position like this, alright? You’re gonna kick your legs up, kinda exaggerate where you’re gonna hit your head, like that, alright? And once your legs go up, they’re gonna come back down, alright? So you’re gonna go like that, then you’re gonna put your toes like that, alright? So your toes are gonna hit the floor, bam. Once your legs go up, you wanna put your toes like that, alright? And then once your toes land, you go on to your knees, to your hips, stomach, then chest, alright? And your hands are out like this, like you’re falling. Remember, you wanna exaggerate, so you wanna go ahhh, alright? Once you get onto your arms you push off and you do the whole thing again, alright? So, just like a worm, it’s gonna look like this. Kay? That’s the first move, alright? Let’s do it all together, I’m gonna do it a couple of times. Here. Alright? Saw how when I got to my hands, I pushed off with my hands, that’s a push up, I push my feet down, again. Alright? That’s how I start again. Pretty funny, huh? Haha. Here, down alright. So you wanna exaggerate it, here. And that’s your worm. You never saw me do that. Haha.

Power move basics. Wow, these moves are incredible! What I’m going to show you, is the basics of the dynamics of our dance. The basic power moves are Windmills, Nineties, Swipes, Hanglides, Backspins. These moves take time, alright? Most of these moves, you will not get overnight, or any of them at all. But I’m sure there are some moves that you will get faster than others. So, take your time. Practice, alright? I practice three, four times a week for four hours, alright. And these moves take a while. Windmills, for some reason, took me a very long time. I hated the move. But, I stayed determined, alright? Most of these moves you are going to love and hate, alright? It’s like a love-hate relationship. Always challenge yourself. Do not, do NOT give up. Do not doubt yourself. You can do whatever you want. So, takes a lot of dedication and determination. So, bear with me. We’re going to work on power moves.

Swipes! Man, this move I love so much — me and this move go way back. This was like the first power move I learned; it was the first power move I learned. But anyways, swipes. Basic position, right here. Ok? It looks funny, but like I said, exaggerate. You have to exaggerate. Alright, your legs opened up, knees bent. I’m in a based where I can’t really move, right; my left hand is down. Once again it’s not on my palm, it’s on my fingertips, okay? Bam. My waist is up, my hand is up. Now, what we are going to work on first is just jumping up, alright? That’s all you got to do — keep doing it. Trust me; you are going to need this. Jump. Jump even higher. Jump even higher, hold it. There you go.
Now once you get that you want to try something a little bit more daring. As soon as you jump you are going to let go with your left hand and jump to your right, bam. Both hands are on the floor, alright? As soon as you have both your hands on the floor you can kind of briefly hold yourself-real quick, and the go over your back hand and then turn to get back into that same position that you just saw me in, alright? So you’re going to jump and turn, alright?
So let’s just work on the jump and turn. Okay, so jump, turn, alright? Once you get that you are going to turn all the way, alright? So jump, turn, freeze, okay? That’s a swipe. You might not get it the first time, but I know everybody tends to do this first: turn then jump, because it’s easy. Watch how easy this looks. Looks easy right? This doesn’t look easy, but it looks way, way cooler, alright? So, to get a perfect swipe, you have to jump first. It’s like a brief second when you jump and then turn, but jump — you need the height. So, practice the jump over and over and over again. It’s a fear-based move, but once you get it, trust me, you won’t be scared anymore, okay? So you are going to jump, turn, jump, turn and that’s swipes. Don’t be scared. Get it, it’s worth it.

So now, let’s work on the side glide, alright? The side glide is an upgraded version of the hand glide, alright? A lot of the moves get upgraded because people battle each other. You know, my father invented the glide and for somebody to beat him, who actually called himself glide master, he came with the side glide, and then, you know, my dad would come up with the reverse hand glide and then, he came with the fist glide, and they just kept battling. You know what I’m saying? Every week there’s a different battle, and that’s what, you know, competition does — it makes you better. So, let’s go into the hand glide position, alright? Once you get into the hand glide position you’re gonna switch your legs, alright? And you’re gonna be more on the side. So, you’re here, and you’re gonna switch your legs, here, alright? It’s a little bit harder, okay? Definitely harder. So now, instead of whipping over here, you’re gonna whip down here. Side glide. But, you can do it, it’s harder that way, but if you do it from midspin, you just switch your legs, alright? So, here we go. Regular glide, slide glide. That’s the slide glide.

Windmills, the most basic power move there is. This is like the beginning of a lot of moves. Alright, my father invented this move, and when he first did it, people made fun of him, but once it was done, they saw the speed in it, everybody was doing it, everybody loved it, everybody wanted to learn it. Just like we did the regular whip for the backspin, this is how we get into windmill. As I said previously, now I’m going to show you how to continue that whip so that you can keep on spinning. Alright? So from here where going to go from a baby, do a semi hand glide, just tap once just so you can get momentum and go from shoulder to shoulder. Our legs are in the air. Make sure your legs are in the air. Right now we’re just kicking it a little bit. Kick your left leg under. Alright? Over here, put our head down and glide, shoulder. As you can see, as soon as I got on my second shoulder, I pushed off with my right arm. Right arm to go back to my hands, and that’s the key for windmills, at first. Hand, shoulder, shoulder, hand. Again, hand, shoulder, shoulder, hand. Alright? So once you get on that second shoulder, you’re going to have to push. It might be a little difficult but if you use your head a little bit, you’ll get onto your hands. Alright? Now what we’re going to do is use our legs. See, before my legs were just there, I was using my upper body. Now I’m going to move with my legs. There’s more in the hips. But my legs are open, your twisting your hips. So, as soon as I whip, I’m going to go again. So, here, whip, whip. I did a little bit of backstring, I didn’t really finish it but that’s what you want to do. As soon as you whip, you whip again. Alright, hand, shoulder, shoulder, hand, and at the same time, your legs are kicking. Alright? You just keep going, keep going. This move takes a long time, alright? It took me a year because I wasn’t motivated to get that move. If you’re motivated, you’ll get it. I just disliked the move but now I love it, I do it all the time. So, as soon as I whip, I whip again, and again, and again, alright? My legs are going to be open, and my hips are just going to be like [demonstrates]. Alright? The windmill. Later on, you’ll get this, so just keep working, doing it, and you’ll get a windmill, believe me!

Alright so, now we’re gonna work on our headspins. It’s basically a headstand-spinning. Alright so, I know you’ve been working on it. Hopefully you have. This is a hard move so, I mean it requires your neck so, you have to be careful. You have to strengthen your neck you know, lock your jaw. Back to the pyramid thing I was telling you guys about, put your head down, top of your head, here alright? Then make your right leg go straight, left leg is bent, whip to the other side. Alright, now loosen your whip. Keep doing that over and over and over. Alright, a little while later, you tap. Alright. Tap. And your legs are gonna be all over the place, but you have to work like that. Alright. OK, so you just have to keep practicing. Repetition is key alright? Alright, so now let’s do it again with the whip. So here, practice your whip. Tap, tap. If you have to, start again. Tap, tap, OK. And that is your headspin.

So now we are going to do our first power move, hand glides. As you can see I have my hand glide glove. You know it helps a lot. You know there’s different accessories you can use for the dance. I try not to use as many, the only move I use an accessory for is a hand glide. I mean, it’s one of my favorite moves. I mean, if it wasn’t for the move, I wouldn’t have the name I have. My father created this move and that’s why he’s Glyde. They called him Glyde for making up hand glide. And I’m Kid Glyde. So let’s work on my move alright. So now, same thing as a Baby Freeze, alright, you want to hold yourself off the floor, alright. You want to put your left elbow into the left side of your stomach, alright, 90 degree angle, alright, but instead of putting your head down, you want to put your head up. Now this might take time, alright, or it’s definitely going to take time. So you want to pick up your legs, alright, you want to be able to have balance. And once you have balance, good enough balance to hold yourself up, then you are going to learn how to spin, alright. So from here you are going to start tapping, alright, so you don’t want to tap from here. You want to kind of mush the floor, like that; you know you want to move. So you’re here, you move, move, move. As you get better you go faster, faster, faster, you go faster and faster, you let go, right. That’s a hand glide.

Floats! Time to learn some floats, hope you’re ready. Check it out. Just like we did the Turtle Freeze, we’re going to start moving with it. Before we start doing a complete float, I’m going to just work on some strengthening exercises. This is a core based move, so if you have a strong core you’ll be able to do it. Right here, okay. So we’ll start with the feet on the floor, right. You’re going to go here, alright, switch, now my elbows are going into my stomach, alright, switch. Here we go, switch. Now you know you start lifting one leg, one at a time and then you lift both legs, alright. So we’re going to do that. Up here, now both my legs up, okay. That’s float, alright. Now once you get that good, you want to start going round in a circle. So what you are doing is, you’re shifting you’re weight, alright. You want to like, kind of like shift your weight into the move. So you don’t fall the other way, you can add like a little hop. So when you switch you hop to the side, bam! Hop to the other side, bam! It takes a lot of times to do. You have to keep doing it over and over and over and over again. Repetition is key.
So lets do them both, so I’m going to hop on one side, hop to the other side, alright. So, hop, hop, hop, hop, hop hop. So, you also what you add to it, your knee kind of, goes to go to your head. So you just move your head. So this is how you want to go, when you’re going left, when you’re on your right, like this. Left, right, so you’re moving like this. You want to shift your weight, because once you go on your left you want to shift your weight kind of to the left, and then to the right, to the left, to the right, so you stay balanced. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom! Alright, lets do it again. So here. After a while you get pains here and there in your stomach, once you keep doing it, your body gets used to it, you’ll adapt to it, alright. So don’t be like, this is not natural. Just keep doing it, trust me you’ll get stronger, alright.

So here we are about to learn a back spin. There’s two different ways to do a back spin. The first whip we’re going to learn is the easiest one and it’s called the Cali whip. One is a regular whip, but the cali whip is the easiest.

My father didn’t let me do it this way cause you have to start here on your tush, and you know, we don’t like to do things sitting down, right? We’re always on the move. So, with that being said, we got our left leg straight. The reason I have my left leg straight is because I use my left hand for baiting. So, if you use your right hand, you have to go the other way. Alright? But let’s just do it my way now because it’s easier for me.

So that’s left leg straight, right leg’s bent. Alright, you’re in this position and your left hand is out and about. Now, you’re right leg is gonna straighten up and whip, alright? You want to exaggerate the whip and it’s gonna go all the way around kinda like a helicopter motion, alright? And at the same time, you’re gonna put your forearm down, right, like that. Alright, and at the same time, you whip all the way around. You’re gonna push your hand off the floor, alright? So you go down and then push. Alright, so whip down and push and there you go.

You see how my legs are open? Now we’re gonna close them, alright? The way you close them is like this. You’re here and you grab them. You don’t just close your legs. Do not close your legs. Go here and go all the way around. Pull it in, alright? So you’re here, pull it in like that. Alright, and you end up in a curved back position where the middle of your spine is basically in the center. You don’t want your whole back on the floor because that’s more surface area to spin on. You want the less surface area as possible so that you can just whip. It’s a little point of access, you know? So, shshsh, you’re out.

Alright, so again, you whip going all the way around. Exaggerate this, exaggerate it. Do not kick back. If you kick straight back you’re going to mess up your movement.

So let’s do this. Leg straight out, all the way around here we go, boom open, close backspin. There you go. You did a backspin. Alright, let’s do it again. Alright, now we’re gonna kick even harder. You want to kick this. Exaggerate it. Ready? Kick. Okay, back spin.

Do not be discouraged. Keep practicing. Repetition is key. Do it again.
