So we just ended on sitting on the right hip with the shoulder on five, six, seven, eight. Now you’re going to bring your feet together and bring your arms up and cross them in front of you. And one, you’re going to slide to the right, bring your feet together and slide to the left. Let’s try that one more time. We just ended five, six, seven, eight so bring it together and one, two, three, four. Alright, one more time. Eight and, one, two, three, four. Standing up, you’re going to point at your ring finger. Take your right hand, two fingers, and point at that ring finger and you’re standing up straight. Five, six, seven, eight. So you’re making a little circle with your hips. Starting with the right to the right down to the left and all the way back to the right. So we just ended, eight and, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

Moving on you’re going to do the same thing but this time we’re going to start going to the left. Bring that leg in, and then bring it out. Arms stay down to your side. Bring that leg in and bring it out, still staying down to your side. Once again we just finished eight and one, two, three, four. Stand up, same thing, five, six, seven, eight. One more time putting both of those together. Just finished eight and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Good.

Moving on. Since your hands are already in front of you just bring them together. Left hand on top of the right or right hand on top of the left, whichever one you feel best with and then your going to kind of like swirl it over to behind your head. Okay, so as your doing that your hands are coming over to the side and behind you. Left elbow is going to stay up, right elbow comes down. Let’s try that one more time. So we just ended five, six, seven, eight, just the hands one, two, three, four. Let’s add the feet. Your right leg is just going to tap one, two, three, four. Alright so seven, eight. one, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Just tap your bottom three times. Five, six, seven, hold eight. Try that one more time. From here, the last one seven, eight, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven. And just see that full speed.

And that was single ladies part five.

All right, so we just landed seven and eight. Now you’re going to take your right leg out to the right. One, two, three, left hand comes up, and you go down on four.

Let’s try this once again. You just ended seven, eight, one, two, three, and you bring your left leg out. Left hand up, three, down, and four. Both legs are bent.

Try that one more time. Seven, eight, one, two, three, four, moving on, hold five, hold six. Lift up on seven, both hands come up. Flick it back on eight.

So, once again, your hands come up on seven, take it back on eight, and your feet stay the same. Let’s try that again from seven, eight, one, two three, four, five, six, up seven, and eight.

One more time, five, six, seven, and eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight.

Moving on, you’re going to take your left leg, and you’re going to make like an oval, going toward your left. Hands are still behind you, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, slowly down, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, and five.

All right, let’s try that one more time from seven and eight. Hands on the hips, one, two, three, four, slow five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, and five.

One more time and then we’ll add both parts together, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, slow five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five.

Now let me add one more thing when we’re slowing it down on five, and six. Let’s go five, and six. You’re kind of lunging. Your front leg is bent, and your back leg is straight, as much as possible, five, six, seven, and eight.

It’s the same thing for this one, then you pick it up. One, two, three, four, and five. Good. Let’s go from seven and eight where we ended the last part. Seven, eight, one, two, three, four, five, six, up fast, walk one, two, three, four, slow, slow, one, two, three, four, five. Good, let’s see that one more time at full speed.

All right, and that was part three of Single Ladies.

Instructions

  • Step 1: Research J-Setting Research the dance style called J-Setting. Beyonce incorporates a lot of its dance-team style moves in her routines.
  • Step 2: Practice your high kicks Practice high kicks until you can do them smoothly – and in stiletto heels.
  • Step 3: Swing your hips Shake your hips fast and furiously, as if you’re trying to shove someone aside with your hip bone; put your whole leg into the motion. Alternate between having your hands on your hips and stretched in the air as you gyrate.
  • TIP: Slap your thighs or bottom occasionally as you’re moving your hips.
  • Step 4: Do pelvic thrusts Work in some pelvic thrusts. Do them back and forth and in a circular motion, feet spread wide. Practice until you can do them keeping your back straight as you lower your body to the floor. Bonus points if you can end the thrusts with your body lowered all the way to the ground and one leg extended straight out to the side – without falling down!
  • Step 5: Walk the walk Walk the walk: Skip and tap dance around in a circle as you move your arms to the beat – punch them out in front of you, wave them back and forth above your head, shake your finger at your imaginary audience.
  • Step 6: Shake your head Incorporate some head and shoulder moves: Alternate raising your shoulders as you move your head and neck side to side, keeping your face looking forward.
  • Step 7: Make it your own Now put it all together, adding your own special moves.
  • FACT: Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” video was inspired by a 1969 dance performance on The Ed Sullivan Show called “Mexican Breakfast.”

How to Win a Dance-Off https://howcast.com/videos/241205-how-to-win-a-dance-off/ Wed, 16 Sep 2009 04:01:07 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/241205-how-to-win-a-dance-off/

Instructions

  • Step 1: Learn it all Learn as many dance styles as possible; you never know what’s going to be thrown at you. Judges particularly like to see ballet skills in dancers, even if that’s not their specialty.
  • TIP: Mix it up. Find a way to fuse classical dance with street moves, and you’ll stand apart from the crowd.
  • Step 2: Be in tip-top shape Be in peak physical shape and stick to a healthy diet: Otherwise, you won’t be able to keep up with the competition’s grueling schedule. And be sure to stay hydrated; in past competitions, contestants have been hospitalized for dehydration.
  • Step 3: Be self-assured, but humble Walk that fine line between self-assured and humble. Judges are like anyone else: They root for likable people.
  • Step 4: Play on people’s sympathies If you have a sob story of some kind, by all means use it. And shamelessly promote yourself. Sometimes, it’s not the best person who wins, but the one who’s best known.
  • Step 5: Remember the five Ps Work on the five Ps: Posture, Precision, Presence, Personality, and Partnership. That’s what the judges are rating you on.
  • Step 6: Look happy Look like you’re having fun. You can be technically perfect, but will lose points if your face is scrunched with concentration.
  • Step 7: Make it look easy Now put all that together and make it look easy. How? With the biggest “P” of all – Practice.
  • FACT: In 2008, a group of supporters petitioned the International Olympic Committee to get pole dancing into the Games.
