Daniela: So how to perform bachata? Performing is very interactive. You interact with your partner or with your teammates or you interact with the audience. It’s actually very fun. You can be flirty. You know you can express your feelings. It’s like telling a story, conveying what you have made to the audience.
Edwin: And pretty much, you know you have to try to understand and maybe, speak to your teammates about why you’re performing. Is this for choreography in a sweet sixteen? Is this for a competition? Is this just for a social gathering or for a party? Every single audience is going to be watching you, either for the first time or a repeat, so you want to give everyone something.
Make sure that you have eye contact with your audience. You know when you’re performing, you have to leave your heart on stage each and every time. You can’t get too comfortable to the point where “Oh, I already know this, so I’m not going to go all out.” You have to go all out each and every time, no matter what level you are.
And I guess the best tip I can give you is, you always have a message and make sure that everyone in the audience, either understands the message; not everyone will like the message and not everyone will want to follow up on you; but you want to make sure that people understand what you’re trying to say. So make sure you’re clear on all the messages in your moves, make them as clean as possible, rehearse, rehearse, rehearse. You can never practice too much.
