How to Prepare for a Ballet Recital

Transcript

My name is Maegan Woodin, and I’m a professional dancer, choreographer, teacher and student. I have danced for MTV, Diana Ross, Marc Jacobs and have appeared in many music videos. You can find more information about me and my career, as well as photos and videos, at www.dgtnyc.com. I’m going to be talking to you about ballet.

Here are a few pointers on how to prepare for a ballet recital. The first is make sure you get a good night’s sleep. It’s important that your mind and body are well rested before a show. The second is make sure you have something small to eat before you go on stage. Not directly before you go on stage, but you do need energy to perform. Good foods include, dried nuts, dried fruits, fruit, and also yogurts. Those are good energy foods you can have. The next thing is that make sure that your hair and clothing are secured and tightly in place. A lot of companies will dock pay and you might even be fired if a loose point show comes undone in the middle of a show or your hair falls out. So make sure that you have everything in place and ready to go. The next thing is make sure you don’t run through with the choreography before the performance. This can create a lot of nerves and some times your mind forgets it when your body actually knows what to do. So have confidence, fully go on stage feeling well prepared and everything will be fine.
