My name is Maegan Woodin, and I’m a professional dancer, choreographer, teacher and student. I have danced for MTV, Diana Ross, Marc Jacobs and have appeared in many music videos. Contemporary ballet is a dance form that incorporates both classical ballet as well as modern dance. Contemporary ballet has a wide variety of movement that doesn’t adhere to the basic lines and positions of classical ballet. Contemporary ballet offers floor work, partnering, and it is done in a turned in position as opposed to classical ballet which is done in a turned out position. many classical ballet companies are bring in choreographers with a background in modern and jazz and are setting work on their dancers. So it is important that a dancer is very comfortable with this style of movement as well as classical ballet.
