How to Find a Good Salsa Dance Class

Transcript

Hello, my name is Jorday Rivera, and I am an expert in salsa. I own two dance studios in Queens, New York. We’re going to be learning a progression of salsa moves so we can actually go out, practice, take it to the clubs, take it to a party, and you can show off all the great moves you learned. In order to find a salsa dance class you should really do your research to see whether or not the person is experienced, whether they have different levels. You don’t wanna have children with adults. You want to have age appropriate classes. You also wanna see if they have other options for you to do. Social dancing, if they have other outside events that you do because not only is it important to learn how to dance in a classroom environment, but you also want to go out and pretty much go in a group environment and practice what you’re learning outside of that. I feel that whenever you go to any dance class you should at least cover at least three moves. Three actual steps which could be like your basic, your right turn, and one pattern at least in any class. If you’re learning a basic step in one class then you really need to find another place to go to because there’s so much that needs to be taught to you and there should be a lot more progression in classes. It’s very important. For beginner classes I would recommend at least 20 to 24 lessons to cover the basic moves. And I would highly recommend that you at least go twice a week. One time is just not enough. You need the repetition. You need the muscle memory. You need to remember the patterns and get your body used to dancing. It’s a new style of dance for you. There’s technique. There’s styling. There’s moves. So I really recommend that you at least take 20 to 24 lessons for beginners to really have a strong solid foundation. So you could go out there and really pretty much have a great foundation and great core in order for you to progress and become a better dancer.
