How to Follow Proper Salsa Etiquette

Transcript

Hello, my name is Jorday Rivera, and I am an expert in salsa. I own two dance studios in Queens, New York. We’re going to be learning a progression of salsa moves so we can actually go out, practice, take it to the clubs, take it to a party, and you can show off all the great moves you learned. Salsa etiquette, there’s lots of rules to salsa etiquette, right Marcos? That’s very true. My thing is I can’t tolerate or I just, I think is really gross when you are in a classroom, or you’re in a, in a club, or in a night scene, and men are with disgusting, wet, drenched, sweaty shirts. I think that you need to pretty much bring extra clothes with you to a class setting. I think if you go to a club and you know you perspire a lot, maybe you should bring another shirt, another t-shirt, where deodorant, put gum in your mouth. You know it’s a very tight closed dance when you’re dancing, you’re singing a song. You know it’s, it’s, there’s a lot to it. Anything for you Marcos? You definitely don’t want to have bad breath when you’re dancing with a lady. Yes. Part of a lead is making sure that you want her to be there with you. So if you, if you’re you know, stinky a little bit, if your right guard is turned left, you might wanna check that, it’s important to where deodorant. Also make sure gentlemen that part of salsa etiquette is being able to direct your ladies in the right place. You don’t want to cross body lead her into a crowd of people. Yes. You also don’t wanna overextend your arms and smack the person behind you. Or over-style and injure them, because you do get a lot of injuries in your dancing, you elbow people. Yes, yes, yes. Make sure that your elbows are, you don’t want to elbow someone in the nose. Me and Jorday have seen plenty of bloody noses, plenty of broken shoulders, it’s a dangerous world out there. Yes it is. And the clubs in New York City are pretty crowded so you want to dance defensively. Don’t cut into anyone else’s space. I agree.
