How to Dance a Cha-Cha Underarm Turn (Ladies)

Transcript

Christina: Hi guys, I’m Christina.

Aaron: And I’m Aaron. We’re joining you guys today from Dance Times Square, in New York City.

Christina: Today, we’re going to talk about how to do an underarm turn for the lady. So we are going to start with a basic, going to the side, rock, step, side, together, side, rock, step.

Aaron: I’m going to lower my right hand for the gentlemen. Side, together side, and slightly raise, as I open the hold on our left and right hands here, with the lady and lead her to her right.

Christina: And so for the lady, I’m going to take my left foot, crossing it over my right and then I’m just going to pivot on that foot, put my weight back onto my right foot, and then join the gentleman for side, together, side.

Aaron: Five, six, seven, eight, and one, two, three, four, and one, two, three, four, and one, two, three, four, and one, two, three, four, and one, two, three, four, and one, two, three, cha-cha one, two, three, cha-cha one.

And gentlemen, as the ladies does her turn we’re just going to continue on with our basic action, rocking back on the right foot. Cha-cha one, five, six, seven, eight, and one, two, three, four, and one, two, three, four, and one.

Christina: And I’m going to freeze right here for a second for the ladies. When the gentleman releases your left hand, and you go into this turn, you have options that you can do for arm styling.

You can have your arm going out and you can bring it back in, or you can keep your arm a little bit lower and then back in. So you have some variation with your arms. You can kind of change it up and make it interesting, not the same thing each time.

Man: Five, six, seven, eight. One, two.
