How to Beat Match & Blend while DJing

Transcript

“I have a record loaded on the left deck and I have a record loaded on the right deck.
This is what I have on the left, this is what I have loaded on the right deck.
I’m going to give you an example of how you’d mix these two recordings together. You do
want to focus on the BPM and you want to count bars. The original tempo of the track on
the left deck is one zero three. The original tempo for the track on the right is one zero
three as well.
So I’m just going to mix two instrumentals together and what I’m doing is, I’m playing one record and I’m cuing up the other and trying to figure out where I’m going to start
mixing from. I’m going to mix both records together by fading one in. It’s the second signal that I’m cuing up now . What I’m doing is, I’m trying to figure out the timing,
the tempo to get both of them to match in my headphones. I’m using my reference monitor
so I’m listening to what coming out of the speaker.
I’m trying to match that with what I’m hearing on my headphone. Once I feel that
they’re both locked on, then I’ll go for my mix. What I’m listening for to keep the
timing is I’m trying to match the snares. Here you have your kick, okay, here’s your
snare, that part right there, that sound. That’s what I’m using to line up both tracks.
I’m doing a little baby scratch in my headphones, so I can cue getting release ready .
Then I’ll start creeping up on the blend with the volume on the right. Place the fader
in the middle when you’re ready. Here we go. okay”
