Yo, what’s up. Okay, so there’s this hot new dance that’s out right now. It’s hilarious but it’s (?). I like it. It’s called Gangnam Style, alright? So Gangnam Style just from watching it, it’s like they’re adding their own style with it but they’re doing certain dances like you can do like a smooth dance like…Alright? And then you have another one where you can go- It’s fun. It’s hilarious. It’s like they’re riding a pony or something. They’re like…Like that, alright? Then you have the basic one where you can just go…just slow mo. Slow mo. But when you in a groove it’s like…It’s like you’re playing the drums or something. You just kind of get in the…

Alright? So, I’m going to show you how to break some of those down so that when you go in the club and you hear that song come on you go Gangnam Style. You’re going to be like, “Hey!” Alright? So here we go.

I’m going to start off with the basic one. Of course, you know how to do the pony ride so you’re basically just going to hold your forearm like this, like you’re blocking somebody, like you’re swinging a rope, alright? So you’re going to just basically do like this until you get a bounce going. It’s like a walk. Add like two steps, two steps, two steps, two steps. Alright? So it’s nothing complicated. Just something new, alright? So you’ve got your forearm here. You’re swinging a rope, alright? Boom, boom, boom, boom. Alright?

Another one that’s more of a, it’s like a step slide but it’s kind of like a groove. Like you just, like you’re doing something like this. Boom. Alright, but the same time you’re going- See how I move my feet? Alright, it’s kind of weird how I move my feet. It’s like a step, boom, step, boom. Step, it’s a motion. It’s more of a motion. Like I said this all comes with understanding your body and knowing how your body moves.

So like I said once you get a beat you’re just going to hop, step, hop, boom. It feels like a kind of a wave with it. So kind of think about where you’re coming from the top to the bottom so you can just…Alright? So like I said, you can [put] it different ways. You can put your hands behind your back, bring it forward, bring it up top, do whatever. Alright? So like I said, get creative with it.

And then the other one you’re basically going to go like you’re playing the drums. You’re playing the drums from here. Alright? So any way you want but you’re going to add a step, alright? So you kind of get like a bounce going. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Alright? So it’s kind of like adding like a house dance with it but you just step, step, step, step, step. Alright? So try it out. Have fun with it. Do your own thing.

You just learned Michael Jackson’s Beat It. Next to learn is M.C. Hammer’s Too Legit To Quit. All right so, think about it this way, M.C. Hammer is a more energetic dancer, so with this one you have to put some energy behind it.

I’m going to show you some basic counts and then we’re going to go from there. Okay? What you want to do is get a little room, cause you’re going to have a little hop. What you do is you want to hop, all right? So it’s like you’re flexing, like you’re swinging both of your legs, like that all right, so, step back, five six, seven eight, hop. Then you’re going to bring it back, all right? Hop one, bring it back two. From there you’re just going to bring it around, so the legs are going to play a big part. So you’ve got to get that effect like this.

Just think of it like this, just keep wiggling your legs, all right? So what you want to do is, boom, all right? So you just want to bring it around, bring it around the head, it’ll be kind of a fast one, your going to go, hah, boom, right into it, all right. So you want to wiggle your legs, hit, hit. Okay, so we’re going to go from there, so five, six, seven, eight hop, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and there, okay?

So you bring it around your head the first time, then you hit, hit, bring it around your head a second time, from there you’re just going to go, boom, boom. All right so remember when we did the whole hit hit, same thing. You throw your feet outward, feet going out, out, out, out, al right
So, we did the hop, pop, bring her back, go around the head with the wiggle with the feet. You hit, hit, go around the head again, bring it there, up, down, and now you just repeat it over and over all right?

What’s up? This is Phil. So you’ve got your combinations down. Now we’re going to some choreo. So the choreo we’re going to do for today is Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.” Dum, dum, dum. Alright, so I’m going to show you some basic combinations from the Beat It video.

Alright, you want to go reach, reach. Alright, so you’re going to reach, reach. From there, you’re going to separate your feet the second time. So you’re going to reach, reach, separate, separate. So one more time, from the top, five, six, seven, eight, reach, reach, separate, separate. So, after the separating, you’re going to go, hop, turn, then a hop, turn.

You know that Criss Cross X we actually did earlier? Boom, same thing, but this time you’re reaching, alright? So reach, reach. Okay? So, from the top, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Alright. Pretty basic. So here we go. Let’s do it again. Five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

From there, what you’re going to do is, if you did your spin, you’re going to go, it’s like a push and a step. So like you’re pushing your body out and you’re pulling it back in with a thrust. So you push, boom, push, boom. See, my hands are ricocheting off my body, so it’s like a pow, like I’m reaching for something.

So, you did here, here. From there you’re going to go, reach, hip, step. Reach, so you’re reaching again, chest, step. So my legs, my feet, are just step, step. Step, step. So I’m stepping back with my right foot. So right, left. Quick step. Right, left. Alright, so here we go.

From the top, you’re going five, six, seven, eight, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Go one, two, three, four, and from there you’re going to go five, six, seven, eight. Then, you’re going to go, hit, hit, hit, hit. Alright.

Then the turn repeats again. Boom, boom, hit, hit, hit, hit. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Go one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One more time, one, two, three and four. So that’s just the basic one, basic choreo.

That’s the whole point of the groove, is helping you get into the beat, alright? So once you find the beat, that’s when you start grooving with it, so you’ll be like, alright. Okay. Ah. Ah. It helps you right into it, alright? Ah.

So I’m finding my groove. I’m finding my groove. It’s all about your bounce. It’s all about your bounce.

So you have your basic boogaloo, which is circling motions with the bending with the legs in different directions. Now, I’m going to have you boogaloo kick. A boogaloo kick is basically the same exact thing, but you’re adding a kick with it. All right? It’s like a kick, it’s a kick-out. You’re going to lift, think about a kick like how you might kick a kickball or any ball. Just kick, boom. You see that? Just faster motion, it’s going to… You see that? Same thing, opposite side. Kick, boom. Like I say, it’s just another basic move. It’s helping you find your own style. So one more time, just kick, step.

Here we go, so we did a boom. You see that? From there, you can just roll it in, step. Same thing. Kick, roll it, step. Now, you can also use that in many different ways. A kick will help you go out, like you can boom. See how I get to the ground? That kick can help you get to the ground. You just go in here, go to the ground. It’s going to be kind of weird because you’re going to be right there. Think about it. You say kicks kind of help you get to the ground sometimes, so you boom. Right there. You can go in different directions, you can boogaloo right back up.

Remember, it’s a form of motion with your legs, just circular motion, circular motion. You can go here, you can go there, boom. You can walk with it. All right? Let’s say it one more time. Do the kick, kick, step, kick, step. Simple, easy. Here’s a simple exercise that you can do at home and practice out. So I’m just going to do what we did earlier. Kick, roll, step. Reverse, kick, roll, step. It’s helps you gain your foundation. It’s helping you getting your basics. Kick, roll, step. Kick, roll, step. Kick, roll, step. And then when we start getting the groove, we can start going to the ground with it. All right? Roll, step, and you go to the ground here, kick, roll, to the ground. Then from there, roll back up, boom.

Like I say, use that basic to help you out and get you in the groove, and then take it from there. All right?

Alright. So. Boogaloo. Boogaloo is more of an old-school style all right? It started back in the ’70s. So. Boogaloo is basically from the hips all the way down, alright? I mean, you can put upper body with it. I’ll start you out with the basics, though. I’ll start you out with the hips and the legs, alright?

So Boogaloo is a certain motion. You’re moving with your legs. Alright, see the motion I’m moving? This is your basic Boogaloo, alright? So it’s like…like you’re just going around. Going around. Reverse. Same thing. Same thing.

Alright so it’s like a leg motion. Alright, you can use Boogaloo for everything, trust me. You can Boog’ to the ground, you can Boog’ coming back up.

I’m going to show you some basic ground moves that we used earlier and I’m going to show you how to incorporate with Boogaloo.

So like I said you start here, go down, basically it’s like you bend your knees. You bend your knees into it. See that? Bend. Around. Bend. Around. Bend. Around. You can also bend. Step. Boom. Bend. Step. See how I’m getting legs moving? It’s motion. Motion. Alright, it looks like you’re kind of on your tippy-toes sometimes, like getting tippy-toes in. Alright you get a little further back because if you’re on your heels it’s kind of hard to balance. You’re going to end up on your tippy-toes regardless. So you can start here. Boom.

So that’s your basic Boogaloo. So like I said just get the bend in your legs and just roll. Roll. Roll. Reverse. Roll. Roll, alright?

Yo, What up? All right. So, we got the wrist rolls, the points, now we’re going to go to the leg. Now the legs play a very big part because you’re moving when you’re locking. You’re moving you’re jumping your bouncing. You’re going everywhere all right. So you got to use your whole entire area. Do not limit yourself all right? Have fun with this okay?

So, remember when I was showing you how you have this. You see how you’re moving your legs so you’re pointing. You’re pointing. You’re pointing. Now, this is where you’ll be creative. You can. See what I did right there? It’s like I did a kick. I did a kick, step. Boom. Because it all plays a part with locking all right? So you got this leg here, boom, kick, step, kick step. It’s like getting a groove with it. Boom. All right? You can always do here, move kick, kick. See look watch this. See, boom boom boom boom. See how I pointed with the kick? Same thing. All right? You can do a leg kick, boom. Anyway you want. Just move your legs around. Get a little groove going. Get your groove going. All right.

Something I like to do with my legs, you want to get that bounce going. That bounce is going to help you lock. It’s going to help you lock. So, the thing about that like, bah bah. See how I’m hitting the shoulders with it, you also pin the legs with those okay? So it’s like you can do here, bah bam. Or another thing I like to so. Sometimes I move with the hop. Incorporate your legs. Jump around. Move around. Get a bounce going. Get that bounce going. Boom, all right? Five, six, seven, eight. Got kick, step, kick, step, kick, kick, kick. So, five, six, seven, eight. Kick, kick, kick, kick, and lock.

So, to do a quick review, then after that I’m going to do a combination with it, all right? So, the first thing we did was the wrist roll. So, remember, wrists. Now, remember, you don’t basically have to stand there in place. Get low with it. Get low with it. All right? So, the thing about wrists, low, boom, anywhere, anywhere, anywhere. From there, you have points, all right? Your own personality here. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. All right? So, you got your points there and remember, the legs. All right, so, we just got done learning the arms. All right. So you practice
that for a little bit. Now we are going to move on to your next step,
all right? Your next one is going to be your legs. You want to focus on the
legs, the legs play a big role when it comes to popping, all right?

So, some things to help you get that going, get that motion going. Think of, like a
twitch, or something that is crawling on your leg, and you freak out, you
are like whoa. It’s basically the same exact thing, all right? So it’s like
flexing your legs, but it’s a quick hit, all right?

So think about like a twitch, twitch, twitch. This plays a big part, all right?
A big part with your arms and your whole entire body. So just twitch, twitch, twitch.
The thing about a reaction, this is a quick reaction, that’s it. It’s like whoa.
Whoa. Wait, hold on. Same thing, all right? So you can use it in different
dance styles and in different movements, all right? So it’s going to help
combine with the arms.

So as you’re popping with the top you are popping with the whole body, you
are going to pop with the right side. Think about hitting your leg at the
same time because it is going to help show more of the effect on your body.
So you hit, hit, hit, hit. Hear that? Just like boom, like… You get
your start, like you’re just walking in, you’re walking into a battle.
You’re walking. You’re looking at them. You just turn. All right?

There’s also different ways you can do the leg pop, all right? For my
example, sometimes I stand in place, like the hit. Other ways you can do
it, you can do it with a walk. Like you do. Pop. So just whatever
you feel comfortable with. Like I said you can do the walk, you can do
walking with it, you can do stand in place.

Stand, stand, stand. Or you can turn to the side and just hah, hah, hah.
Anyway you want. It don’t necessarily have to be one leg at a time. It can
be both legs. It can be boom. It helps you like a reaction. So if you want
to go into like a slow-mo. See that? See how my legs popped? Moving
in slow-mo. It plays a big part in everything you do. So when you
are free styling, the legs are going to hit automatically, all right? You
just have to know your body, you have to know what move you are going to do
next. You have to know what you are going to hit next. So you have to know
how to mix it up together. All right? So don’t be scared to try something

All right, so, we just did wrist rolls, now we’re going to work on points.

Now points is just basically doing this. All right? But what you want to do is you want to put it into a dance style. All right? It’s called locking. So when you’re locking, it’s like you lock, you see that? It’s different, it’s not just being still, it’s just being still and then you point. All right?

Now watch my legs. You see how my legs are kinda pointing out at the same time? It’s like I’m running in place, I’m just doing this. All right? Now we get a little rubber stance going, but you just hit, hit, you point, you don’t have to point with the opposite leg or the right, you can point whatever way you feel comfortable. This way, you can go that way, you can go this way, you can go boom, boom, hah, hah, all right?

A certain angle is a certain movement, all right? It’s not specific, it’s not strict, it’s however you feel like you want to do it, all right? Be you. So point, point, point, point, point, see that? I didn’t move my legs that time. See? I did my own thing. I got creative with it. All right? So like point, point, point, point, point, point, any way you want, all right? It just helps you, it’s like hey, like you, you, what’s up? You over there, what? All right? So just think about it, it’s like hah, all right? Sort of just have fun, put your personality in it, all right? You don’t have to be at a certain angle to point, just point, point, point, point, all right? Be you.

Next subject that we’re on is locking. Locking is a form of being goofy.
Think about being silly. This is going to help you bring out your
personality; bring out your character, alright. When you’re locking we’re
going to start with the wrist rolls.

The wrist rolls is the basic thing we’re going to start off with, alright.
Just think about balling up your fist and rolling, alright, both rolling,
rolling. The roll just don’t have to be up top you can bring it down, you
can bring it down. You can bring it here. You can bring it there. You can
bring it anywhere around, alright. It’s about the wrist rolls. It’s like,
just …like there. You see how …Your personality, your character’s going
to come out regardless. It’s like a goofy dance, alright. You see that?
It’s all wrist rolls, wrist rolls.

A way to practice is when you’re at home just sitting there bored just go
down, then reverse it up, down then reverse up, alright? Down, reverse up,
alright? Some people like to ball their fist up. I don’t necessarily ball
my fist all the way up I keep them at a loose angle because I don’t want my
wrist to be so tight. I want to kind of get a motion going. Just think
about like …I can do something like …toot-toot, toot-toot, like that.
Just think about not balling your fist all the way up. Leave them loose a
little bit, alright? Kind of get some of the effect going just like that,
alright? Up, reverse, down, up, reverse, down, alright? Try it out.

We first started out with the popping exercises. We started out with the arms, then we did the legs.

Remember, when you’re doing the exercises, reach out as far as you can like you’re trying to separate your whole body. You’re getting very angry so you’re going to tighten up all your muscles. All right?

So when you’re tightening up your muscles, make sure it’s all upper body. All the arms, shoulders, chest. Try to get everything working, all right?

You just reach in, tighten up. From there, you’re going to loosen it up, take it out. You’re going to go into different pop movements, all right?

So you go to basic, you’re going to go pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. Anyway way you want, anywhere, all right? Same thing with the legs. You’re legs, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. Just walk around, pop, pop, pop, boom. All right?

When you’re popping with the legs, think of below the hips? Everything below the hip, get it going.

Different ways you can do to exercise the legs to help you out popping in the legs. You do here, same thing, both. Just kind of get like a bouncing on. It’s going to help your muscles all loosen up, all right? It’s going to kind of build some tension in your legs so that way, “Ow. My leg’s hurting. My leg’s hurting.” All right?

Just think of twitches, twitches, twitches. So from there, you’re going to put it together in combination. We’re going to go from there.

So, we’re going to start with the basics. You’re going to go altogether with the arms and the legs.

So here we go. Five, six, seven, eight. We’re going to go one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. All right? So we did one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

Think and just add, incorporate everything, all right? Don’t be scared to do your own thing. This is going to help you out. Remember, I can teach it to you, but it’s up to you, at the end of the day to add your own style. So take some time off. Practice that, all right?

Five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

Remember, there you go. Your basic combination. It started after that first eight count.

Do your own thing, all right?

Yo, what’s up? Fellas, the next subject we’re on is popping. All right, so basically popping is certain isolations of the body or certain hits; arms arms, legs legs, shoulder shoulders, whatever one you prefer. Pop what you feel; wherever the motion is going to be, hit it. We’re going to start with some popping exercises. These exercises are basically going to help you with your hits. They call them dime stops, like in football, because you have to stop on a dime.

So, what you want to do is stretch your arms out as far as you can and separate your whole entire body, all right? You’re going to reach, spread your fingertips, spread them wide and then ball your fingertips slowly like you’re getting mad at us. You’re getting mad and mad, madder. Pull them tight and hold it for about eight seconds and then let it go. Shake it out. Same thing. Do it as many times as you want. This is going to help you build muscles in your forearms, it’s going to help you build it in your shoulders. And your muscles right here.

So another one is to do, is when you’re in the mirror or just sitting at home bored, you just hit, hit. It’s like popping is more of a flex. So think about flexing your arms. You want to flex, flex, flex, flex. Remember, this is nonstop. Stop on a dime, stop, stop. These little exercises will help you out at home, so once you get it down and you feel comfortable you can move out of practice mode. All right?

House spin. Basic spin. You’ve seen Michael Jackson do it, you’ve seen James Brown do it. The only difference is you putting your own style into it. So I see some people that always spin one leg. Some people can just…boom. It doesn’t matter where you put your leg at, just get a spin going.

So, you’re in your groove, you’re in your groove…boom. Spin or spin or spin. Anyway you want to spin, alright? So like I say, you’re in your groove. Ha. You’re grooving, you’re grooving, you’re grooving. Turn. Right back into it. Turn. Right back into it. Alright?

So remember, house dance is more of a…so like a lean back, lean back, lean. Alright? So think about it that way. So when you’ve got your rhythm down, you’re going into it. Boom, boom, boom, spin. No matter how you spin, just add some flavor and style to it, alright?

This one is called the hop-step, okay? So, you have to think about it. I name them like this so that way you can understand the movements. So, it’s like a hop-step. Hop-step, hop-step, hop-step, all right? So, we’re going to start off with the left foot. You’re going to hop, that leg is going to come up. Your right leg is going to come up, all right?

So, then we go, five, six, seven, eight. Go hop, and then step. So, what you want to do with the step is, kind of, cheat a little bit, and be sneaky about it. You want to add a little extra step in there, all right? Hop, boom. You see that click, click? Hop. Hop. Hop. All right? So, it’s like a hop, tap, tap. Hop, tap, tap. So, left leg. Five, six, seven, eight. Hop, tap, tap. Use that tap, tap, to get to the other side. You want to use it to get you to the opposite side, all right?

So, left foot, with the hop. So, five, six, seven, eight. Hop, step, step. Hop, step, step. When you’re stepping, make sure you lean. See how I’m leaning in to it? Boom. Hop, step, step. Hop, step, step. Because sometimes we need to know house is all about bounce, lean, bounce, lean, bounce, lean, bounce, lean, all right?

So, think about it again. So, here we go. So, hop, step, step. All right? Do it a little bit faster, so it’s like a boom. So think about it, it’s like tapping. When you hit. You come down here, all right? So, start from the top, left leg. Five, six, seven, eight. Hop, step, step. Hop, step, step. Hop, step, step. Hop, step, step. DJ, spin it.

Move your feet around. You guys get that bounce going, all right?

I call it the quick step slide, because it’s two quick steps, and then it’s a slide. I’ll break it down to you real slow, then we’ll go from there.

What you want to do is, you want to step, right foot, and go quick step, slide. See that? So, quick step, slide. Let’s do it again. Five, six, seven, eight, quick step, slide. It’s like getting a bounce.

See that? See how I’m playing around with it. Same thing. Play around with it. Start slow. Five, six, seven, eight, quick step, slide. Then on the other foot. Five, six, seven, eight, quick step slide, quick step, slide, quick step, slide.

From there, you can mix it with anything you want, like quick step, boom, quick step, boom, quick step, boom, and slide. Go back, go forward, quick step, boom, quick step, boom, quick step, boom, quick step, slide.

Swag dancing is a new subject.

So, same thing. It’s like getting in the groove with your step. Say for instance, you’re doing a choreo, or you’re at a club, you’re just chilling with your boys, or what not, think about it this way. If you’re in a club, it’s like, you got the Duggy, the Cat Daddy, the basic little fundamental dance you can do. But, you can do the dance, but not have no swag, or no flavor to it. You could be just like this. Like I said, when you add swag, it’s like. Like you’re adding your own style to it. Same thing with the dancing. So same thing with the swag dance. Say for instance, you’re doing a choreo, and they be like, ‘All right, this, boom.’

So you want to be smooth with it, be smooth. Think about like boom. All right? Same thing, just like boom. Same thing. It’s all about the facial expressions. It’s all about your body language. So, like I said, think about being smooth when you’re dancing, but at the same time hitting it, because you’re cool.

You kinda want to have that mind frame like, there’s nothing wrong with being a little cocky in some of your dance steps. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s adding character. It’s giving more. Like I said, if you want to have that slide. Same thing, swag dancing. Just add it with anything.

DJ, hit it.

See what I’m doing? It’s like I’m adding swag. I’ve got the whole facial expression going. Same thing.

Find your personality, add your swag to the your dances, and go from there. Get that groove.

Putting it all together. You just learned the chest pop, you learned the cross step, you learned the stomp, then you learned some patterns. Remember foundations, all right? All right? So just remember when your krumping find your own style, be you. OK?

One thing there is, make sure you always have your legs like at a separate because it’s going to help you get a bounce going. All right? Some people like to keep their legs together, but it’s a little easier once you get here because you move, you can move, you can move. All right? So you learned all those elements together. You’re going to bring them into one, all right? Yo, DJ hit that track.

The next thing you’re going to learn about krumping, it’s the cross-step, all right? So with the cross-step, same thing. You’re still in your hype-mode. You’re still going at it, all right? It’s a different style to help you move. Remember you had to stomp to help you move over here. You’ve got to stomp to help you move there. Now we’re going to go to a cross-step, all right? See how quick that was? Think about it as, okay, boom, boom. You’re krumping, you’re doing your stomp, now you want to go over here. You want to go somewhere else. You want to use that to help you get around, all right?

So basically, it’s the same thing. It’s the same thing as the stomping, but you’re cross-stepping, all right? So you cross-step. So think about, just, chest-pop, cross-step, all right? So I say, just add your own style with it, like I said, but get the energy level up, alright? Because it’s something little, but you have to make it big. So, basically you’re just stepping over, stepping over, same thing. Stepping over. Same thing, just stepping over. All right. Spin that track, DJ.
