How to Do the Steve Martin Hip-Hop Dance

Transcript

Alright. So we’re going to talk about a little bit of what I like to consider the four main groups of hip hop.

One is the up, one is down, one is bounce, and one is drop. That pretty much determines where your accent is. It helps you learn dances faster. It just helps you feel better as you’re moving.

One of my favorite down grooves, is the Steve Martin. Named after all of the popular movies that Steve Martin did in the late 70’s, and throughout the 80’s. Right? So a lot of the dances in that age were named after people or things that were super popular. So this one went to Steve Martin.

To start, Steve Martin is a walking step. Right? So were going to start our left foot. Looks like your right, my left. We’re going to walk.
One, and make sure your accent is down. Every time you step, you’re going to bend down. In order to do that, you have to return up. Right? So you’re going to go one, two, three, four. That’s the way we’re going to start this one.

Okay? Let’s try that again. Step down, down, down, you’re going to turn. Again. Accent’s always down. Six, seven, eight, down, down, down, down. To do it again on the other side, down, down, down, down. Right? There’s plenty of ways you can do the Steve Martin. This is the most basic that we can do. Right?

We have five, six, seven, eight, step down, down, down, turn, down, down, down, turn, down, down, down, turn, last time, down, down, turn. Let’s try it with music.
