The next trick I am doing is called Milk the Cow. It utilizes the trick, Hop the Fence.

You have to actually master Hop the Fence before you even attempt this trick so make sure you do a least ten times with your right hand, ten times with your left hand, consistent, kind of like how I taught you guys in Loop-to-Loop. So, after you master both left and right, try it at the same time. And once you get it down consistently at the same time, alternate.

The reason why it is called Milk the Cow is because you’re simulating the motion of milking some teats. There is no cow and no milk present, but you might impress someone. You can do different variations with Milk the Cow. You can go inside-outside, kind of like the loops. You can go over and under, right over left, left over right. You can also add some Around the Worlds, too. From this trick you can go up to the Punching Bags, bring up forward like you’re punching a bag. You can carry all the way to the top to vertical loops or you can come around and do the Staircase. And that’s Milking the Cow.

What I’m showing you now is two-handed wraps. Basically, it’s different elements of wrapping the yo-yo around your arm and body from two-handed loops. This is a version of a body wrap. I’m going to use my right arm to wrap while doing loops with my left hand.

Here’s another version of wraps utilizing Around the Worlds.

Basically, you use the yo-yo and the yo-yo strings to wrap around your arm. This is a loop wrap.

These are car wraps. To do Milk the Cow, you do Around the World with the right hand, and you wrap it around your arm, and bring it up. And those are wrap tricks.

Transcript

For this trick, I’m going to teach you guys how to do Double Around the World. I taught you before how to do around the world with one hand, but now I’m going to teach you how to do it with both hands, and different variations from it.

So, first you’ve got to master the basic Around the World. Going backwards and forwards with both hands, left and right. You want to practice going inside and outside, with both hands. And once you get that down you want to throw two Around the Worlds at the same time. And just concentrate on the motion, going around and trying to catch them. Once you get that down, you want to try to practice criss-crossing variations.

This one’s a little more difficult, and takes a little hand eye coordination to time it right. So start with your left and go over your right hand. Left, go right over, left over. From Around the Worlds you can regenerate to a Reverse Around the World. You can also do pirouettes, turning your body. And there is also a very difficult trick called a Tangler you can do from Around the World. This one’s pretty difficult, as if you mess up it will tangle. So that’s Double Around the World.

How to Do the Grind Yo-Yo Trick https://howcast.com/videos/509651-how-to-do-the-grind-yo-yo-tricks/ Mon, 10 Dec 2012 20:15:13 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/509651-how-to-do-the-grind-yo-yo-tricks/

Transcript

The next trick we’re doing today is called The Grind. With this trick, you have to have a really, really long sleeper, so you’ve got to throw it fairly hard. And with the grind, you basically have the yo-yo grind on your skin, basically either left or right hand.

And there’s different variations you could do with the grind. This is the basic one.

You could grind with your left hand.

Utilize both hands. Grind up with your arm.

Grind on your thumb, like so.

To do the grind, there’s a lot of factors that help with the grind. Basically, you got to have really smooth skin. Basically it helps if you’re ashy. If you’re sweaty, it’s going to grab the Yoyo and not grind as well. And it just rolls right off. But if you get sweaty, like something that dries your hands like baby powder helps out a lot. And that’s The Grind.

How to Do the Two-Handed Loops Yo-Yo Trick https://howcast.com/videos/509654-how-to-do-the-two-handed-loops-yo-yo-tricks/ Mon, 10 Dec 2012 20:15:13 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/509654-how-to-do-the-two-handed-loops-yo-yo-tricks/

Transcript

The trick we’re doing right now is called two handed loops. For this trick, it’s pretty difficult, it’s considered an advanced or expert trick. You’re utilizing two yo-yos, right hand and your left hand. Basically with each hand, you’re doing both loops, so you have to master both looping left handed and right handed.

So I suggest learning and mastering your right hand first and once you do maybe ten consistent, focus on your left hand, and if you can do ten consistent that’s good. Once you get that down, you want to start practicing two at the same time. Just like that. If you get around ten at the same time, you want to take the next step alternating them. Like this.

This is a really difficult trick and it takes a lot of practice, but once you get the motion down, it’s not too bad it’s kind of therapeutic. The yo-yo is just flying, you’re not really controlling it, it’s just doing its own thing.

With this you can add different variations to it to. You can go inside, outside. You could criss-cross them, and you can over and under. You can add an Around the World to it, with your left hand or right hand at the same time. And that’s loop-the-loop.

What Are Yo-Yo Competition Classes? https://howcast.com/videos/509658-what-are-competition-classes-yo-yo-tricks/ Mon, 10 Dec 2012 20:15:13 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/509658-what-are-competition-classes-yo-yo-tricks/

Transcript

So when it comes to competitions, the different styles of yo-yos are separated into five different classes; 1A all the way up to 5A. And each style is not necessarily more difficult than one another, but it’s just different elements you do with the tricks and the different yo-yo. Such as 1A, it’s a traditionally the most common style of yo-yoing, you just use one yo-yoing and you do like regular string tricks. And the next one is double A, 2A and with that style you use two yo-yos, two looping yo-yos. The next style I like to go into is 3A and this is my main style. This is what I compete in and what I’ve won multiple national titles and a world title in is 3A. It’s pretty difficult. It involves two yo-yos and it’s kind of like a combination of 1A and 2A. You do 1A tricks but with two yo-yos.

The next style I’ll talk about is 4A and 4A is a pretty popular style and basically the style is also known as off string and basically the string is not connected to the yo-yo like traditionally in single A. So the string is wrapped around the yo-yo but it’s not tied to the end of the yo-yo so when you toss it you can toss it up in the air and catch it on the string. This style is pretty difficult because it you drop the yo-yo it could just roll off and you always need to have back up. And the next style is called 5A. The 5A is also known as the counter weight division. It’s tied to the yo-yo normally like in single A but instead of being tied to your finger it’s tied to like a little object, like a bouncy ball or a die. And from there you can do tricks like swing it around and stuff, so it just adds another element to tricks.

And in competition, each division is separated so most of the time people compete in their own divisions, and each division is not more difficult than another division. It’s just basically their preference. Each division is separated accordingly the style people play in. In competition of competitors, they compete to get on stage. Everyone has to do a one minute free style routine so you have to go on stage and for one minute you perform to music and if you score among like maybe the top 10 to 20 you’ll move on to the final round. In the final round you have two or three minutes to do another routine and judges will judge you and give you positive points based on originality and technicality. They’ll do like deducts if you have a miss bind or you missed the trick. That along with performance. At the end of the competition it’s all tallied and added up together and whoever has the high score gets a place accordingly.

And that’s the different kind of classes and how a yo-yo competition is basically ran.

How to Do the Velvet Rolls Yo-Yo Trick https://howcast.com/videos/509656-how-to-do-the-velvet-rolls-yo-yo-tricks/ Mon, 10 Dec 2012 20:15:13 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/509656-how-to-do-the-velvet-rolls-yo-yo-tricks/

Transcript

The trick I’m showing you now is called, “Velvet Rolls”. This trick utilizes two yo-yos at the same time and it’s from a style called 3A.

First off, you have to throw a good sleeper with your left hand. You want to make sure the yo-yo is straight. If it’s crooked, it will mess up the whole trick. Now, with your right hand, you have to make sure that the yo-yo are parallel with each other. To mount it up, you mount the left yo-yo first. Basically, you mount it like a brain twister mount. Put it into the string and the next mount, you mount the right yo-yo. Put that one into the string. This is the mount for the velvet rolls. To start the rolls, you flip the yo-yo back, one after another. First that one, this one, that one. You do as many as you want, but usually three is sufficient. To dismount, you pretty much drop the yo-yos. That’s the ‘Velvet Rolls”.

How to Do the Double Trapeze Yo-Yo Trick https://howcast.com/videos/509652-how-to-do-the-double-trapeze-yo-yo-tricks/ Mon, 10 Dec 2012 20:15:13 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/509652-how-to-do-the-double-trapeze-yo-yo-tricks/

Transcript

This trick is called a Double Trapeze. And to do this trick you’ve got to master not only Trapeze with your right hand, but also with your left hand. So first I would recommend just practicing landing consistently with your right hand. Trapeze. And then practice with your left hand.

Once you get that down, you want to try to land it at the same time by throwing it at the same time. Two breakaways at once. One with your right hand, one with your left hand at the same time. And to dismount, just pop it off.

And that’s Double Trapeze. The Double Trapeze is part of a style called 3A. And it utilizes two sleeping yo-yos to do a single trick with two yo-yos at the same time. Similar to looping tricks, but instead of doing loops, you do sleeping tricks, string tricks. As you notice, the string is being manipulated with both yo-yos. So this style is known as 3A. So that’s Double Trapeze.

So, when competing there’s basically two types of yo-yo’s I like to use. For 2A, I like a yo-yo that’s light, and fast, and responsive. So if you look at this yo-yo, this is what I would use for a competition, and for 2A. And it’s really light, compared to a metal one, and it’s really fast, so I can do really quick tricks.

For a style like 1A or 3A, I would use a metal one, because it requires the yo-yo to sleep really long and I can’t get a long sleeper with a plastic yo-yo.

For beginners, I recommend a yo-yo that’s fairly inexpensive. You don’t need to spend no more than maybe $15 to $20 for a good yo-yo to learn on, compared to a metal yo-yo, you can pay up to $100 to $300 for a metal one. It’s really hard to learn on.

If you’re buying a $300 yo-yo, you can compare it to buying a Porsche, and trying to take it out on a track. If you don’t know how to drive it, you’re not going to be able to use it to its full potential. The same thing with a yo-yo; you pay $200, but if you don’t know how to use it to its full benefits, it’s a waste of money.

Hi my name is Paul Yath and I am a professional yo-yoer. I own a company called Crucial and I’ve been yo-yoing for about 13 years. And yo-yoing is not just my job, it’s my passion, my hobby, this is what I love to do. I love traveling, I love going to places and showing people my passion.

I started yo-yoing in high school when yo-yos were very popular and every kid in school had a yo-yo. And at the time I wasn’t really interested yo-yoing, because in high school you’ve got to have this image of you know, you have to be popular and cool. People who were cool did not yo-yo and I was just like, whatever.

One of my close friends, he brought a yo-yo to school one day and he was doing all these kinds of tricks and I was like, “Oh that looks pretty cool,” so he let me try and it and I was like, “Oh I can do that better than you.”. I’m very competitive in nature, so I was just like, “Okay, let me borrow that yo-yo,” and came back to school the next couple of day’s and I already learned like, maybe five tricks and I was trying to just out do him.

That really pushed me to the next level and made me more interested in yo-yoing. I’ve been all over the world competing and I’ve won nationals four times, and I’ve won Whirls in 2006.

My main main focus now is not competing, but with my company, Crucial Toys I basically do my own designs and my own yo-yo’s for players.

If you want to find out more information about my company Crucial you know, just go onto Google, type it up or if you want to see more of me, type my name up on YouTube, Paul Yath, Y-A-T-H, and today I’m going to show you guy’s some yoyo tricks.

The next trick I’m showing you guys is called Black Hops. It’s called Black Hops because it was invented by a Japanese player named Black, and he’s a very creative player and had some really cool tricks. And it starts off of a breakaway. Basically, this is from the Man on a Flying Trapeze. This is a Double or nothing. This is triple or Nothing. You start off with the triple or nothing with this trick. One, two, three. Land on the outside string. The next step is you hop the yo-yo in the air and you take out your left index finger. You land on the outermost string. And you hop the yo-yo again. You take out your right index finger. Hop on the outermost string. You take off. And you repeat left and right until you get to the Man on the Flying Trapeze. So one more. One more. And then you reverse the step. You go right back up, back into the triple. Take off your right index finger, dismount through the outside. So now I’ll do it for you real fast. And that’s the Black Hops.

When you throw it, you want to throw the yo-yo at an angle, at a sideways angle. So you want to get the yo-yo on the side. And it kind of looks like a UFO. Comes right back to your hand. You can do it to the outside.

When doing a UFO you toss it to the side, you grab the string with your left hand and you guide the yo-yo right back up to your hand.

Also with the UFO it can be used to adjust the tension of the string. You do it to the inside the string gets looser. When you do it to the outside, the string gets tighter. And that’s the UFO.

As it comes back towards your hand you don’t want to catch it, you want it to go over. And with a flick of your wrist and your finger, you’re doing Hop the Fence.

With Hop the Fence there’s different variations, inside and outside, you can punch it forward like a punching bag, you can bring it straight up, to vertical loops, and right back down. That’s Hop the Fence.

This trick is called the Brain Twister and is one of the first string tricks that you should learn. You start off with a throw down, and you’ve got to have a really good, strong sleeper, because this trick is kind of a long trick. With your left finger you push the string in front of you, come down with your right hand, and you want to mount the yo-yo into the string, like so.

You come up around with your right, and right below your left hand, you want to pull on the string. When you pull on the string you want to flip it around in a circle, like so. You want to try to do as many rotations as you can. Like so.

When you dismount it, basically you hop the yo-yo out over your left finger, like that. There’s also different variations that you can do with the Brain Twister too. Change directions. Actually, dismount, come right back in. Over correction.

There’s also quick mount to the Brain Twister. Instead of going the back way, it’s a lot slower. You just go right over your left index finger like that. By doing it this way you get into the trick a lot quicker.

And that’s the Brain Twister.

The string carries around your finger, it makes a loop, and that loop catches the yo-yo. From here you can do different kinds of slack tricks actually. That’s one, you could do double, you could do triple, you can do four times but, I don’t want to intimidate you with that trick. There’s also different variations from the slack tricks you can do. This trick is called the Skyrocket. You start off with the long sleeper, and when the yo-yo’s spinning, take the string, the loop, off your finger and you give the yo-yo a little tug. And when the yo-yo comes up to your hand, you don’t catch it, you have it go by your hand. Flies up and that’s what you call the Skyrocket.

You would use a Skyrocket at like, the end of a freestyle routine. The audience loves to see the Skyrocket. Make sure you catch it, because if it goes anywhere else, you’re going to hurt someone, maybe yourself. The hardest part about the Skyrocket is controlling the launch. You’ve got to time it just right. When it comes right up, if you don’t time it right, it’ll come up and hit you rin the knuckles or it won’t even go up, kind of like that. And that’s the Skyrocket.

Now this mount is really important, because it’s a mount you use for other tricks as well, so to master this mount is really crucial.

So, with a good sleeper, you push forward with your left index finger into the string. You position the yo-yo right in front of your right index finger. You want to hop the yo-yo over your right index finger like this. And this is called the Split Bottom mount. From the Split Bottom mount, you do an underpass with your left finger. And then you follow through with a underpass of your right finger, in a reverse direction. And from there you do a couple flips. And to do the dismount, you just hop it over your left finger. And that’s Split the Atom. There’s actually a trick called the Hydrogen Bomb too. It’s pretty much like Split the Atom, but it’s reverse direction. Going backwards.

We start off with a split bottom mount, and like the Boingy boingy, you come down with your left hand, and you come around twice. Actually it’s in a Mach Five mount. And from there you’re going to pop up the yo-yo, and when you pop up the yo-yo, you’re going to cross your arms, right over left. And it goes right back to the split bottom mount. And from there, you pop it again and go in the reverse direction, right over left. And right back into it. And this is repeated, over and over.

And to dismount, you basically unravel the yo-yo, take your fingers out, and have it come back. And that’s the Pop ‘n’ Fresh.

Visually, when you’re doing tricks from the side, you can face the audience and they can see the yo-yo better than if you are doing from the front. From there, do a complete rotation, from right over left to left over right. So, from there, see, now my right arm is over my left arm. Here is where you do your second pop. You want to give it a little flick with your finger and rotate your wrist. You can try to do it as many times as you can and, the more you do it, the better it is. And there’s different variations to Loop the Loop. You can do it outside, inside and outside, add Around the world, go straight right, right back into Loop the Loop.

It’s also important to learn with your left hand as well. Then you can do two at once. You can do double Loop the Loop. And that’s Loop the Loop.

For this trick, it’s called the Warp Drive. It’s basically another looping trick. It incorporates different elements like Around the World, loops, and I’m going to tell you about a new trick called the Regeneration, that has to do with it as well.

So, the Warp Drive, first you start off with a loop and you do an Around the World with the loop, right there. After you do two, you punch it down, reverse direction of the Around the World. So, loop, Around the World, another Around the World, and Regenerate, Reverse Around the World.

It’s also really important to practice this with your left hand, because once you’ve mastered both left and right, you can do that at the same time, and it looks really cool.

That’s the Warp Drive.

How to Do the Creeper & the Walk the Dog Yo-Yo Tricks https://howcast.com/videos/509632-how-to-do-the-creeper-the-walk-the-dog-yo-yo-tricks/ Mon, 10 Dec 2012 20:15:12 +0000 https://howcast.com/videos/509632-how-to-do-the-creeper-the-walk-the-dog-yo-yo-tricks/

Transcript

When you think of yo-yoing you think of Walking the Dog, one of the most iconic tricks other than Rock the Baby. When walking the Dog, you’ve to have a good sleeper so that the yo-yo will stay spinning, and come back to your hand after you do the trick. Make sure you have a good spinning yo-yo. Put it on the ground, and you can walk along with the yo-yo like you’re walking a dog.

There’s also a different variation of Walking the Dog, a trick called The Creeper. Like Walking the Dog, you walk the dog out, but then it returns to your hand in a different manner. You walk the dog out, and the dog walks right back to your hand, on the ground. That’s called The Creeper.

It’s really, really important that you have a good, strong throw, and the yo-yo spinning good. It the yo-yo slows down too much, the yo-yo won’t come to your hand. It will die out like so, and you killed the dog.
