How to Do a Hula Hoop Horizontal Jump Through

With horizontal jump throughs we’re going to treat the hoop as if it’s like a jump rope.

You’re going to hold the hoop out in front of you horizontally. Palms are down. Swing the hoop down towards your feet. And we can practice this slowly first. Just step through one foot at a time. Then rotate the hoop back over your head. Out in front of you again.

So, we can do this slowly a few times to figure out the motion of the hands. My grip is up. It goes between tight and loose. So, as you’re jumping through you let the hoop swing up and over. And then start jumping through it. More like a skip rope. You can do both feet. And we can change directions. Jump through backwards.

Faster. Looks really effective if you reverse the direction in between jumps. So, I’ll show this from the side. You can do a couple of jumps forward. Reverse. Forward. Reverse. Do a couple of versions.

It’s also another version of this that is really fun to try, is horizontal jumping through with the hoop to the side of you. So basically I have it in one hand. I’m going to let the hoop come down to my ankles. Step through. And I have a nice, have a loose group as it flows through. But then I tighten to rotate the hoop back over my head.

I’ll do this one a little bit faster. Step through.

And that’s how you do a horizontal jump through.
