How to Combine Easy Samba & House Dance Moves

Transcript

Ashley: Hey, this is Ashley and Henry, and as part of our Latin fusion series we’re going to show you how to combine a little bit of samba and a little bit of house.

Henry: That’s how it goes.

Ashley: We’ll show you first, and then we’ll break it down. Starting with the right going across. One, a two, three, a four, spot, a six, seven, a eight. And a front and a back and a front, look, look, and roll. Yeah. Now let’s break that down.

It’s not as complicated as it seems. Basically, without any kind of hopping of the body we’re just going to cross, one, step step, two, step step, and three, step step, and four, step step. Then we’re going to take it front. Front lean your body with it, lean your body back, lean your body front. We’re going to look to the back, look back to the front, and roll through the chest. Yeah.

Now the roll doesn’t have to be big. It could be simple or just be a look. Roll your shoulders. Nod your head. Or you could make a big body roll.

When we make it a little bit more complicated we’re going to find a rhythm where we’re bouncing into the body, right. So relax. The knees are bent. We’re going to cross. Keep the feet from turning. You want to make sure that you’re not turning on the angle. You always want to imagine that you’re in a little hallway and you’re keeping your hips close.

One, and two, three, a four, five, a six, seven eight. And front and back and front, look, look, and roll. Yeah. Let’s do it one more time, and then we’ll show you what it’ll look like when we face each other. Here we go. Six seven and one, a two, a three, a four, a five, a six, a seven eight and front and back and front look look, roll, six, seven, eight. Good.

So now we’ll show you what that’ll look like when you’re facing…

Henry…But guys this bouncy part, that comes from the samba. So we have that little rolling thing going on. In samba they love to bounce so that’s…

Ashley: …And that’s why the two are combined so well together. Because in samba you have the bouncing, but in house we also use jacking which comes from the same exact idea.

Henry: Yes. And with much more like sharper, but we’re mixing up. Now, guys, here what we’re going to do is we’re going to do it with the left. We’re going to reverse everything. So, all you need to do is start with the other foot and do everything to the other side, so we’re working both sides, OK.

Ashley: It’s like a mirror, so just make sure you’re mirroring your partner. And we go one, a two, a three, a four, a five, a six, a seven eight and one and two and three, and roll. Yeah. And then you go into whatever dance you want to from there and continue with it.

So let’s show you that with some music so we can dance along. Five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, front and back and front, five six seven eight. Good. Let’s do it one more time. Five, six, seven and one, two, stay low, let the body stay relaxed, front and back and front, look, six seven eight. Good.

So there you have a basic way to combine samba and house together and have your Latin fusion.
