“Hi. I’m Andy “”The Magic Man”” Segal. I’m here at Willow Billiard in Hoboken, New Jersey doing some trick shots and pool instruction. So if you’re ready, let’s get started.
All right. Now, stopping the cue ball’s important, but that’s the basis for learning how to use follow and draw shots. Follow is when the cue ball continues forward. Now, if you remember from the stop shot video, the cue ball will roll naturally if you just hit it, not below center, but just slightly above center. That natural roll is momentum for when it hits the twelve ball, the cue ball will continue forward after the twelve, kind of like that. Now, that’s just using the cue ball’s natural spin and natural momentum.
However, if you want, you can hit the ball above center. Now, by hitting the ball above center, it’s very difficult to see, but the cue ball is actually spinning forward faster than it’s rolling. So when it hits the eleven, it stops for a brief second, spins forward and then forces forward a lot faster than just with the natural roll.
Learning how to put a lot of follow on the ball, or a little follow on the ball, is the key to successful position play.
