How to Make a Stun Shot while Playing Pool

Transcript

Hi, I’m Andy ‘The Magic Man’ Segal. I’m here at Willow Billiards in Hoboken, New Jersey, doing some trick shots and pool instructions. So if you’re ready, let’s get started.

Alright, now a stun shot is really a stop shot but you hit it very hard. The reason you have to hit it hard is because if you have a shot that’s a cut shot, a stop shot is going to cause the cue ball to go right along the tangent line as you remember from the other video. But if you have a shot like this where cue ball and the fourteen ball are almost straight in, there’s not much of an angle for the cue ball to be traveling. It’s not going to go very fast. So, when you shoot the fourteen in, the cue ball’s only going to move very, very little. So you have to hit the cue ball a lot harder. When you hit it harder, the cue ball actually travels along the tangent line a little bit further. So in this situation, I’m going to shoot the fourteen but the three ball is in the way, I want to get around the three ball so I need the cue ball over here. So if I were to just shoot this ball with a stop shot, I’m going to be behind the three. So what I need to do, is I need to use something called the stun shot which is basically the stop shot but hitting it a lot harder and it’s going to *ensure* the cue ball to travel a lot further. Now, I have a good shot at the eight. Next to last sentence where he says “…and it’s going to *…..the cue ball to travel a lot further.
