“Hi. I’m Andy “”The Magic Man”” Segal. I’m here at Willow Billiard in Hoboken, New Jersey doing some trick shots and pool instruction. So if you’re ready, let’s get started.
Now, when you have two balls lined up, and they’re touching, or frozen, what you have to remember is that when you shoot the ball, if you shoot it straight they’re going to go right along the line that they’re lined up at. But if you shoot it at an angle, the friction of the tangent point is actually going to push the ball off the direct line. So, for example, here we have the ten and the twelve lined up right for the corner pocket right for the side pocket. Okay? If I shoot straight into the ten, the twelve ball will go straight in. But if I shoot it at this angle, what’s going to happen is the force of the cue ball, and the ten, and the friction, is going to push the twelve ball off the line, and you’re actually going to miss. Okay? Now these two balls are lined up for here, so if I shoot directly into them, the two ball misses. But if I shoot over here, that same concept that caused me to miss the other ball is going to push the two ball into the side pocket.
