How to Make the “Football” Pool Shot

Transcript

“Hi, I’m Andy “”The Magic Man”” Segal. I’m here at Willow Billiards in Hoboken, New Jersey, doing some trick shots and pool instruction. So if you’re ready, let’s get started.

This is the classic football shot. The shot is basically the 8-ball is the running back, the cue ball is the quarterback, the touchdown is, the endzone is right here in the side pocket. We have all the defenders blocking. The idea is for me to shoot the cue ball into the 1. The 1-ball will start the 8-ball rolling across the table. The cue ball will then hit one of the defenders. All the defenders will split apart, allowing the 8 ball to score a touchdown.

The way you set this up is you have the 8-ball an inch, an inch and a half on the point, the 1 ball straight across, and then you have these balls in the way, kind of off set a little bit, where the tangent line between the 9 and the 13 goes straight into the 12, this tangent line one goes right into the 15, and so on.

And that’s six points.”
