“Hi, I’m Andy, ‘The Magic Man’ Segal. I’m here at Willow Billiards in Hoboken, New Jersey doing some trick shots and pool instructions. So if you’re ready, let’s get started.
This shot was made famous by the movie ‘The Hustler’. It’s called The Hustler Bank. It was starring Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason. At the beginning of the movie there was a scene in a bar where this was the set up and Fast Eddy called the eight ball to bank in this corner pocket. It seems impossible but the shot is done by shooting directly into the cue ball with a lot of Top English which will get the cue ball and the stick out of the way to clear a path for the eight ball.
The set up is the eight ball is at a half a diamond so you just from this edge here of the rail to this diamond and you split the difference and the cue ball is basically just straight out. Shoot straight into it with a little bit of Right Hand English which is this side, this side English here. And that gets you the money. “
