Now we’re going to learn how to play the second part to Cuckoo from Guinea, West Africa.
This is for the second Jim Bay accompaniment, so, it’s a little bit lower in pitch than the first part. The drums, they want to work together, higher pitch, lower pitch. This part we start with two tones , then a slap, then two tones, then another slap. Listen, I’ll put it together. Tone, tone, slap, tone, tone, slap. The tones are on the beat. Tone, tone, slap, tone, tone, slap. Tone, tone, slap, tone, tone, slap.
When it goes faster you’ll really hear the tones coming out; tone, tone, tone, tone, tone, tone, tone, tone, on the beat. Five, six, seven, eight. A little faster, five, six, seven, eight. Even a little faster, five, six, seven, eight.
Cuckoo is fun, it’s exciting, it’s happy celebration music. That’s the second accompaniment for the rhythm we call Cuckoo.
