Hi, my name is Payton. I’m the manager of Airsoft Hero located in the historic district of Hampden in Baltimore, Maryland. And I’m Joshua Meyer. I’m the tech here at Airsoft Hero. Our store features AEGs, accessories, apparel. We also buy used guns, accessories and apparel and we also do quality tech work. Any details you can find on our website at www.airsofthero.com. And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. To be an effective sniper you need to have concealment, not cover. There’s a big difference between the two. Cover would mean that I have something in front of me that’s going to protect me from being shot, and concealment means that you cannot see me. However, I am completely open to be shot at. To be an effective sniper you need concealment. Being concealed, which what you see behind me you see a piece of woodland area here with essentially nobody in it. However, when I ask my associate to get up. Patton, stand up please. Now you can see him. He was concealed; he was not in cover. Now if I ask him to stand behind one of the trees, that would be cover and not concealment. Thats how you are an effective sniper.

Our store features AEGs, accessories, apparel. We also buy used guns, accessories and apparel and we also do quality tech work. Any details you can find on our website at www.airsofthero.com. And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. Now, the most important thing about Airsoft isn’t the kind of gun you have. It’s not the kind of gear that you roll with. It’s Airsoft safety, it’s as simple as that. Safety cannot be stressed enough in this game. There’s a lot of people that have been seriously hurt, like, without wearing eye protection. And honestly, they end up losing an eye. Along with safety is hydration. Whether you’re playing in the wintertime or the summertime, if you feel thirst, that means you’re dehydrated. Between every round, even if you’re out there in the woods for a long round. Have a camel bag, have a canteen, have something to keep yourself hydrated. That’s what’s most important. As far as safety gear goes, one good thing to use, if you’re over 18, is full seal goggles. They’re sealed all the way around. If a BB hits my face, it will not enter the goggles, and injure my eyes. This is not something you should use. This is for target practice, these are shop goggles. If, uh, playing out there with these in the woods, somebody shoots at you, it’s very easy for that BB to get in between your face and these glasses, and go in your eye, and cause serious damage. If you’re under 18, I would suggest you wear a full seal mask. Not just covering your eyes, covering your entire face from your jawline all the way around. It’s also very important to keep yourself fully covered. Whether you wear a full shirt, arm sleeves, whatever. Protect your arms. It’ll protect you from bugs, poison ivy, and, uh, BBs breaking skin, if the person happens to be too close to you. Gloves are also very important. It keeps the gun from tearing up your hand. It keeps the BBs from tearing up your hands. And it keep the environment from tearing up your hands as well. Another thing I would suggest would be kneepads. A lot of times, if you’re in the heat of the moment, you’re running to cover. You’re gonna slide into cover. That’s gonna tear your knees up. The kneepads will protect your knees from anything that might come at them. One more thing that’s good to have. The boots that you wear should be full length ankle boots. Something to support your ankles so you can’t roll it, sprain an ankle, break an ankle, whatever.

And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. There are a lot of different things you can do to an Airsoft gun. You can upgrade the feet per second by changing out a spring. You can upgrade the accuracy by installing another inner barrel. One that has a tighter iii. Now, your BB is generally about 6 millimeters, it’s actually a little bit less, around 5.95 millimeters. The accuracy is greatly affected by how much the BB actually, physically moves around in the barrel. Any by allowing it to move less, it’s going to improve your accuracy. Now, when you start upgrading the feet per second and the gun, you also might want to look into upgrading some of the other internals of the gun. Because, they are now taking more of, more of a load and can possibly become damaged. You can upgrade the gears. You can also install a new piston that would be able to take more, you know, more abuse as well. And there are other motors that you can purchase that will basically fire the gun faster, and put more BBs out in the iii of time. Now, internals are not the only thing that you can do to a gun. You can also add accessories, such as mock suppressors or silencers. And you can also add various different optics such as a scope or a red dot. You can also add flashlights and lasers, foregrips, bipods, new stocks. A lot of different things that you can do to the guns. You’re not just limited to just how the gun performs inside, but everything outside as well.

Because, honestly, you don’t know if you’re gonna be in the game for the long term. You wanna look for something that’s meant for beginners. And something that will fit your budget a little bit better. Once you become a little bit more experienced, you’ll learn how to upgrade the guns. And you’re gonna learn what internal upgrades will do what for the gun. So you can finally tune to your role and what you wanna do in Airsoft. Another great thing to do is, uh, the people who you’re playing with that are more experienced from you. Be a sponge to them. Take whatever advice they wanna give you. As far as gear, as far as safety, as far as brands of guns. Whatever advice they have, take it in, and then sort that out with your own discretion. Also, joining a team is a great way to get into the sport. Not only do you learn a lot about the sport. You also get to experience the sportsmanship and the camaraderie that a team has from working together as a unit, instead of just working separately, trying to do your own thing. Another very important thing for beginngers, and anybody that plays Airsoft, is safety. You do not wanna use shop goggles or target practicing goggles. You wanna use full seal goggles to cover your entire eye area. If you’re under 18, I would suggest that you wear a full face mask to protect anything possible. The most important thing with Airsoft is safety. The more safe you are, the more everybody can enjoy the sport.

And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. How to play Airsoft really just depends on the people that you’re playing with. This community of Airsoft might have different rules than this community of Airsoft, or different game types. Most of the time, they’ll be about the same. It’s just good to get to know exactly how these guys play, so you can follow the rules correctly and have good sportsmanship. The good thing about playing Airsoft with teams, um. It gives you a great sense of camaraderie, a sense of belonging. And honestly, personally, when I’m working with my team, we’re working together as a unit. Using the plans that we’ve laid out. Using our strategies that we’ve come up with. It feels good to implement them. And honestly, it feels good to have somebody on the end of your barrel, and call hit utilizing those strategies. In Airsoft, much like Paintball, if you get hit, you’re out. Now, like I said, depending on where you play, may have different rules. And some places you go, if you get hit, you go back to the start. And that counts as a respawn. Then you come back in the game. Most places, if you get hit, you’re out. You’re out until the next round. Now when you get hit with a Airsoft BB, it’s not gonna be like getting hit with a paintball. You’re not gonna see a splotch that appears on you. If the BBs gonna bounce off of you, and disappear. It’s up to you to use good sportsmanship to call your hits.

And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. A tip I would like to talk to you about is proper stance and movement. Now, just like with any firearm, when you hold your gun, you wanna hold it, hold it how it makes you feel comfortable. But a good tip to use is, wherever your front hand is, use that front hand to pull the gun back into your shoulder. That’ll insure that your gun is solid. It’s not gonna move anywhere. And when you move, your body is gonna move with it. You would think that you want to put the buttstock flush with your shoulder. Now, when you do that, when you go to aim down your sights, I have to bring my head down, I have to hunch up my shoulders. That puts my neck out of alignment, along with my back. And it’s gonna cause a little bit of pain after a while. Put the bottom of your buttstock high on your shoulder. So when the time comes, and you have to take that shot. You snap it up, and you’re perfectly level with your sights. I don’t have to hunch down, I don’t have to do anything. The sights come up to my face, I don’t go down to the sights. Now, when you have to drop to a knee, you wanna make sure that when you drop to a knee, the hand that you shoot with is gonna rest on the corresponding leg. I’m left handed, so when I drop down, my left elbow immediately comes on to my left leg, and I’m stable. As opposed to this, I’m not resting on anything. I have no, I have no comfort, and it’s gonna make my arm tire out really fast. Like this, I can post up, I’m comfortable. I can even rest my head on the gun, because all the weight in coming right down onto my leg. A very good tip to learn, is, when you walk, don’t walk flat footed. As you’re stepping down, you wanna roll to the outside of your foot. That’ll insure, instead of hearing this, you’re gonna hear this. You’re gonna hear barely anything. I’m stepping on top of dead leaves. I’m moving them around, and there’s absolutely nothing you can hear.

P: Now Airsoft is a team-sport, and just like any team-sport a very important thing that you should practice is sportsmanship. What I mean by that is if you’re out there playing with everybody and if you get hit, say you’re hit. Unlike paintball, people aren’t going to be able to visually tell when you get hit. And also one thing personally, your gain a lot more experience on the field calling your hits, than you do lasting on the field. The long if people see round after round after round after round, lasting, you may be the best player out there; who knows, but you may also be not calling your hits, just so you can look cool in front of everybody else.
Another thing is smack-talk. If you’re playing with your buddies, smack-talk is cool, if you know them well. If you’re playing with a new group of people playing at a commercially-run field, keep smack-talk to a minimal. You don’t really know who you’re gonna make angry and stuff like that.
Something else you should know about- when you’ve played a lot of fields they have this what’s called as the bang-out rule. The bang-out rule is the minimum distance that you’re allowed to engage with a rifle. Most places, it’s about fifteen feet. Josh here is less than fifteen feet from me. If he’s on the opposite team of me, I’ll hold my gun at him and say, “”Bang, you’re dead””. At that time he’ll call hit, he’ll walk off the field. If he’s beyond fifteen feet, fair game.

And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. Much like in real life, Airsoft CQB, or close quarters combat, is a completely different ball game. You’re in much tighter quarters. Therefore, your movements and your gear is gonna have to reflect in correspondence to that. As far as movement goes, you need to watch your step. Because, since you’re gonna be inside, there’s gonna be BBs on the ground, and it’s a lot easier to slip on those inside. Something else to remember, is, since it’s such tight quarters, you’re gonna be coming around a corner. And most likely, you’re gonna be staring in the face of an enemy. When you come around a corner, you need to keep your gun tight, yourself tight. Keep your arms tucked in, and slowly peek around that corner. If that gun comes out before you do, then they’re gonna see that, and they’re gonna anticipate you coming out. Something else to keep in mind is the type of gun you’re gonna be using. You don’t wanna use something like a full length M16 or a sniper rifle, because, it just doesn’t make sense to use something like that. It’s big, it’s bulky. You’re gonna be hitting corners with it. And people are gonna see that gun come out before you do. So, they’re gonna get the jump on you. A good gun to use is something like a a P90 or an MP5. The P90 is small, it’s very compact, it’s easy to load in close quarters environments. Because the magazine loads on the top instead of the bottom. Also, something to remember about CQB, is that camouflage doesn’t really have an effect. You can wear woodland or desert in CQB, but it’s not gonna do you any good. A good color to wear would just be neutral colors. Something like black or grey or dark brown, navy blue. Something like that.

And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. Loading your gas gun depends on what kind of gas gun you have. If you have a CO2 gas gun, you’re gonna use the small CO2 tanks. IF you have a green gas gun, you’re gonna use the airsoft green gas. Now to load your green gas gun, you’re gonna take the magazine, you’re gonna take your green gas bottle. You’re gonna insert it into the bottom, and when you charge it, you wanna charge it for no more than about three seconds at a time. Three second bursts, and to fill up the magazine all the way it takes around four to five three second bursts. Now that this magazine is charged, I’m gonna load some BBs inside, and after that, insert the mag, put the slide forward, and you’re ready to shoot.

For CO2 guns, some of the CO2 magazines will have a cover, some of them will not. You need to take the cover off, and then the gun will provide an allen key. You’re gonna use that allen key, and take out the screw inside. And you’re gonna insert the CO2 so the top is to the top of the magazine. After that’s in, you’re gonna put the screw back on, take the allen key, and tighten it up. Now as you’re tightening it up, you’re gonna feel it get a little tight. After that you need to turn it a little bit faster, and you’re gonna hear the CO2 feed into the magazine. After that, load your BBs, insert the magazine, send the slide forward, and you’re ready to go.

And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. Spring Airsoft guns are relatively simple. All it is, you cock it back, it locks the piston back. You pull the trigger, it sends the piston forward, sending the BB out. Now, what I mean by that is. I’m cocking it back, that brought the piston inside to the back. Now that piston is waiting for me to pull the trigger. Once I pull the trigger, it’s gonna let that piston go, and it’s gonna send the BB out of the barrel. There’s a couple good things about spring guns. They’re good for kids. They’re good to give the kids for just general firearms training, to use it as a good example. They’re good for target practice for kids and adults. Whether you’re an experienced player or not. Also, for kids, it helps them get into the game a little bit, without spending too much money. Now, if you’re giving a child one of these guns, whether it’s a spring or an Airsoft electric gun, you wanna make sure that they’re under adult supervision at all time, and that they’re wearing the necessary safety gear. Other than that, the spring pistols are cheap. So give one to your kid, and let ’em run around and have a good time.

If you’re going to be in a more urban environment, or even a small field, that’s very close. You know, where people are always very close together. You’re not going to want something as large as the Barrett over here on my left. You’re gonna want something smaller, like this M21 EBR over here on the right, around 14 AVRs depending on what you’re familiar with. The guns are both upgradeable, just the same. So it doesn’t matter, actually, which platform you choose, as far as its performance. It’s just depending on what type of environment you’re going to be in. If you’re in a larger field, you’re definitely gonna want something larger, like this. Or maybe even just something a little bit bigger than the AVR over here. Another thing is the role that you want to play. If you’re going to be stricly a sniper, then you’re going to want something that is only going to fire semi automatic. If you’re going to be more of a designated marksmen, you’re going to want something that’s going to also fire fully automatic, not just semi automatic. So then, you are not limited to only being a sniper. But you can make the necessary long range shots that other people would not be able to make.

Your budget’s going to be, let’s say $250, then you’re looking at a brand such as Echo 1 or JG, or something along the lines on those. If your budget is upwards of $450, then you’re looking at something like a Classic Army, a Tokyo iii, an ICS, and brands like that. Your budget is going to directly affect the performance of the gun and the quality of the gun. If you’re looking for something that’s under $250, the quality of the gun is going to go down a little bit in comparison to something that’s going to cost you upwards of 400, 450 dollars. Those particular guns are going to have differences in externals, as far as, 1 gun may have a metal body, and the other 1 does not. The internals of the guns are still upgradeable, regardless of which model you get. So even if you get one of the less expensive models, you’ll still be able to upgrade the gun to perform and even outperform some of the more expensive guns.

And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. A good secondary gun could be a backup to your primary gun, in case that ever fails during a game. What I would recommend to get is something that uses the exact same magazine. Therefore, you don’t have to buy any extra parts to be able to use that gun. Now, you also may be looking for a pistol. That varies, and also depends on what’s comfortable in your hand. If you have a small hand, you do not want to get a replica 50 caliber Desert Eagle. It’s not going to fit in your hand very well. You’re not gonna be able to hold it. Something that you could get would be more along the lines of a Walther P99. The only time you would generally use a pistol is going to be if you run out of ammo shooting at someone. And you need to either reload quickly, or generally, just switch to your pistol. It’s a lot faster just to move to your pistol rather than reload the gun that you’re currently firing. So it’s good to have a pistol on hand. Whether it be on your side, or maybe even on your vest, depending on what kind of vest you get.

And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. To find an Airsoft game, your best bet is to use local networking, plus online networking. You can go to your local Airsoft shop, find approved fields. Or you could go online using forums as the mid Atlantic Airsoft players registry, or MAAPR, for short, or airsoftretreat.com. From there, you can find threads for approved fields, or for where Airsoft teams practice. And you can get in touch with them, and link up with players that way. From the forums, you can also find big games, that, uh, that are very large events, that are hosted by some of these Airsoft companies. And they provide games where literally hundreds of people are involved. And they’re modeled after real wars that have happened, like Battle of the Bulge, um, things like that. There’s a lot of people that come in and play these games with a wide variety of firearms. And it’s going to offer a definite challenge for anybody that goes into these events to play, whether you’re experienced or not. Because you’re not really gonna know what to expect. One thing you should not do, however, is go to your local park or go onto somebody’s private property to play. You should always play at an approved Airsoft field, where that is the main focus.

And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. Most of the Airsoft guns use the exact same internal parts, and are similar to something like this right here. This is just a gear box. And this houses, basically, everything that every Airsoft gun uses. They all have, you know, motors and gears and things like that. And they can all be upgraded equally. The main thing that you wanna look for is basically what’s going to be comfortable in your hands. You’re not going to want something that’s too big for you to carry around, too heavy for you to carry around. You want something that’s going to be easy for you to move and manipulate. And to be able to carry for, you know, 20 minutes at a time. This will be an AK-47. I’m pretty sure you’ve probably seen it in Call of Duty, and things like that. The M4A1, this is the CQB model, very small. Another would be an M249, very large, very heavy gun. And then, something that is iii. This would be a sniper rifle, and is literally for long range use. Any of the guns here can be modified internally, just the same as the next one. So it all feels, it all comes down to, basically, how it feels in your hand. If you’re a smaller person, you may want something like the small CQB M4 that I showed. Another thing, if you’re a larger person, like myself. The Bear over here, or the M249 that I showed would also be something that you would be able to use. It also depends on what kind of game you’re playing. If you’re going to be indoors, you’re not gonna be wanting to play with a gun that’s coming up to here on me. Which, I’m about 6 foot. And the Bear is roughly about 56 inches long. It’s a very big gun. You’re not gonna want to use that indoors. You’re probably gonna wanna come around with one of the little smaller CQB guns.

This is actually what will affect how fast the BB comes out of the gun. Another thing would be a piston, and a piston head. A cylinder and then a cylinder head. An air nozzle, what’s called an iii plate. And then you’ll have a set of 3 gears. You also have a motor, and then this would be considered your switch mechanism. That is actually what’s making it work. No matter what happens inside the gear box, you can upgrade and change it to make it perform better for whatever scenario that you’re gonna be using it in. If you wanna upgrade the spring, that will change the feet per second of the gun. How far the gun fires. When you use an Airsoft gun, you’re going to load BBs in the magazine. You’re going to make sure that there is a battery in the gun. You’re also going to place the mag in the gun. And then change the selecter switch on whichever gun you have to semi or fully automatic, and you’re going to pull the trigger. In turn, the BBs are going to feed through the magazine. And then they’re going to shoot out the barrel of the gun, at wherever, of course, it’s pointed. And make sure that it is pointed in a safe place with no animals and people.

And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. As far as choosing the right gear for you, obviously, you want something that’s not gonna be too big and bulky. If you’re wearing a vest or camouflage, you want it to be properly fitting. Not too loose hanging off of you, so you don’t snag any twigs or branches. That could be detrimental to your gear. And it could also help the enemies with your position. You also want gear that will fit the game that you’re playing. If you’re doing a CQB battle, you obviously don’t want a long range rifle to use, and vice versa. As far as some of the gear that you carry, you want to make sure you have plenty of ammo, you have a lot of spare magazines, extra bbs, a battery, and anything else you think you might need out on the field. For the camouflage, you don’t want something that’s not gonna blend in with your environment. If you’re in the woods, you want a woodland type environment. You don’t want to use desert camouflage in a woodland environment or urban camouflage in a desert environment. Of course, you can kind of get the point, and use your own discretion for that. Another very important piece of gear to have is a camel bag. Water, and something to carry water in is obviously one of the most important pieces of gear to have strictly for safety purposes. Also, another important piece of gear to have is eye protection. If you’re under 18, I would suggest that you wear a full face mask. If you’re over 18, wear full seal goggles, and use something else to cover your face. Something that’s very important, is that you don’t want to be slowed down by the gear. While it’s important to have all the gear you need, you don’t want to carry excess gear. Because it just causes more noise, more weight, and it will wear you out a lot faster.

And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. Winning an airsoft battle depends on the type of airsoft game that you play. If you were to play a deathmatch style sort of game, its basically the last man standing. You have your team trying to take out the enemy team. If you were playing a capture the flag type of game, the point is to get the flag and take it back to your base while losing as little members of your team as possible, while also keeping the other team from getting their flag. another popular game type is VIP in which you have to escort somebody from one side of field to the other without them getting injured. a lot of the times if you’re not the VIP you’re going to be used as a human shield to take the fire, just as long as that VIP survives. Another good technique for any game type is to wear the proper camouflage for the area. you don’t necessarily want to wear a desert style camouflage if you’re going to be running through the woods and vice-versa. you want to utilize cover and concealment, cover to keep the fire off you, and concealment to keep yourself hidden. you want to make sure you have enough ammunition, you have a spare battery if you’re out there for a long time, and any gear you think you may need to get the upper hand on the enemy, that’s what you want to keep on you, and you need to make sure it’s handy at all times.

And we’ll be talking to you about airsoft. Now, for Airsoft grenades, not everybody’s gonna use them, some people will. If you decide to go with an Airsoft grenade, the very first thing you should always remember is not to have it hanging off of you in a way to where it can go off on you. You wanna keep it secured inside of a pouch, inside of your pocket, wherever. Just as long as the pin is not sticking out, so it can’t get snagged on anything. I have my grenade in the drop pouch right here. A good technique for throwing the grenade, hold the grenade at your chest in your throwing arm. I’m left handed, I’m gonna hold it in my left hand. I’m gonna hold it up to my chest, I’m gonna grab the pin with my right. I’m gonna pull the pin. That grenade is not actuated until I let go of the spoon. Once I let go of the spoon, the grenade will be armed. When throwing the grenade, you basically just throw it like a baseball. Whatever distance you want, however far you wanna throw it. A trick to throwing the grenade is to aim with your hand. Think of the Al Bundy pose playing football. So I want my grenade to go off in that direction. I’m gonna hold the grenade like so. And as soon as I throw it, as soon as the grenade leaves my hand, I’m gonna drop down to my knee to clear my head, so it won’t bounce off of anything and hit me. It won’t hit my head and fall in front of me, whatever. So you’re gonna hold it back, do the Al Bundy, and I’m gonna throw. There’s gonna be a couple different kinds of grenades that people are gonna use. Some of them are gonna be gas powered, some of them are not. Some of them are gonna shoot BBs out of them. Some of them are just gonna make a loud bang. Most of the BBs that make a loud bang are available to get shipped in overseas. You can’t buy them in a lot of American base places. The grenades that we sell, personally, are powered from green gas. The internals have a small canister. You load the BBs up inside, put a cap on it, load it up with gas, throw the grenade back together, and you’re ready to go.

Airsoft began in the late 70s in Japan due to a civilian banning of all firearms. Companies started making replicas after real firearms for the people in Japan to play with to sort of get the realism of the same thing. Since then, it’s spread westward and it’s popular all around the world.

Airsoft is a military simulation-based game that use 6mm BBs shooting out of replica firearms. There’s a lot of different game types you could play and it really depends on what your personal preference is and on how to do that.

Guns use an electric motor or gas to propel the BBs out. Because the guns are replica firearms, it provides a very intense sense of realism to the sport. Most players use real gear, real apparel that our world military uses, just to provide more action and more adrenaline to the sport and just to make it as realistic as possible.
