How to Play an E Note on Bass Guitar

Transcript

Here’s how to play the note E on the bass guitar. The note E is the open string that’s closest to you, the 4th string. So if we just play the string alone, that’s the note E. We can find it a lot of different places, because the notes all repeat themselves over and over again with the letter names. So we have E, F, G, and then repeats back to A, B, C, D and we’ll come to another E. So we have E as the open string, and we also have E, 12th fret on the same string. We can also find it on the A string by using our formula that we have that there’s always a note between ever letter name except between B and C, and E and F. So we have A, we skip a note to go to B, we don’t skip to go to C, we skip to go to D, and then we’ll skip one more time, and we get to E. We can check it with the open string we know is named E, or the 12th fret. Now again, we can use our formula to figure out that the string D has an E on it just by skipping one fret, so the 2nd fret is going to be an E. We can also find an E at the 9th fret on the G string. And there’ll also be one at the 14th fret on the D string. So you can play around with lots of different E’s by checking them, checking them with each other, and if they’re all E’s, then they’re all good.
