How to Play a Pull-Off on Fingerstyle Guitar

Transcript

I’d like to show you what pull-offs are now. Pull-offs are the opposite of a hammer-on. Hammer-on was to get to a higher note on your string. A pull-off is to get to a lower note. Again, just like hammer-ons, it’s exactly as the name implies. You’re literally pulling your finger off to get to the next note. I’m going to start with my third finger on the six[th string, and I’m actually going to pluck the string with my fretting hand. If I lift my finger off, I don’t get much of a note. It’s not a lifting off. You actually have a slight downward motion and then lift your finger off. Think of your left hand as just plucking the note. Just like the hammer-ons, practice doing pull-offs with different fingers and on different strings.
