OK, so we’re still talking about laying over the major scale or minor scale over the top of what we know. Right? We’ve done that to pentatonic pattern #1. Now we’re going to do that to pentatonic pattern #2. Let’s stay with our same key. We’re talking about A minor or C major. Remember, they’re the same.
So here we are. I’m going to find A on the fifth string, on the A string. Right? We know that that’s open, but that gets a little tricky with the open, so I’m just going to bring it down to the twelfth fret. That’s where the guitar starts again. And if you remember, this is our pattern #2, so it starts like this. One, four, one, four, one, three. Right? We know that that works there. We know we can extend it.
And now we’d like to layover some of our major scale or minor scale notes. Right? So it goes like this. One, two, four, one, three, four, one, three, four, one, three, one, two, four, and then one, two, four. So you can see it’s starting to get more and more complicated. Let’s try that again, right? So we have one, two, four, one, three, four, one, three, four, one, three, one, two, four, and then one, two, four. So there’s some similarities between that one and the other one, but completely different shape, right? And there you go. That’s the major scale over pentatonic pattern #2.
