One of the best ways to keep time is to tap your foot. Now it sounds easy, but its actually a little tricky to sync up everything you do tapping your foot. It’s natural for some, but for most I think it’s a learned idea. First, you’re trying to sync up your left hand and your right hand and now you’re trying to throw in a new idea which is your foot. But once you can start doing that you’ll get the sense of what everybody else is feeling. The dancer, the singer, the drummer, the bass player, we’re all playing to that one idea which is the beat. How about this? Lets do the first strum that we did, right. The first strum was down,down, up, up, down. So, how that sounds with your foot tapping is da, da, da, da, da. So, you notice I have to tap even though I’m not strumming in a certain part there. You see, down, down, up, down, down, right? All right, so you can see how you can keep real good time that way. Lets try another strum. How about the third one that we did? The third one was down, down, down, up, up, down, down, right. You see, bah, bah, bah, bah da, da,da. Again, I’m tapping in a certain spot there without, without strumming. So, that can be tricking to sync up, right. You keep practicing you can do it. Down, down, down, up, up, down, down, right. So, there you go. Tapping your foot. It’s a great way to keep yourself in time in tuned with the rest of the band.
