How to Play a Triplet Lick

Transcript

Hi, this is Stephanie Sanders from Tomato’s House of Rock, and here’s another lick to try. We’re going to use a rhythm pattern called a triplet, and that basically just means if our beat is one, two, three, four, what you want to be playing inside those beats is going to be one-two-three, two-two-three, three-two-three, four-two-three, one-two-three, two-two-three, three-two-three, four-two-three.

So, triplet because there’s three notes per beat, and again it can really kind of build your momentum in a solo. So the notes that we’re going to use for this triplet is going to be in the key of C minor pentatonic. We’re going to start on the blue notes, so on that F-sharp, and we’re going to play F-sharp, G, and C, and we’re just going to go straight up in that order. So we’re just going to have F-sharp, G, C.

So up to speed in a triplet feel, we’re just going to have… You see again, this is when you’re kind of at the peak of your solo; it can really take you over the top. So let’s see what it sounds like with some music.
