EntertainmentHow to Play the Saxophone

Parts of the Sax

Transcript

Hi. My name’s Troy Roberts. And this is the alto saxophone.

It’s constructed of three parts. First of all the body, the mouthpiece and the neck. And each of these parts have little sub-parts or mechanisms that are essential to the correct functionality of the instrument.

First of all the mouthpiece has a reed, a ligature which holds the reed to the mouthpiece. And the rest of the saxophone has a whole bunch of mechanisms. Rods, posts, pads, springs and screws which make it kind of unique to a lot of other instruments.

In that if anything’s kind of a little off whack it can gravelly affect the performance of the rest of the horn.

So, this is the alto saxophone.
