Hi my name is Victor Show, and today we are going to be working on a stepping series okay? Stepping to me is a big ordeal, you know. It’s basically the first kind of dance style that I was related to where I actually had to learn choreography.

I come from a step dance company called “Players.” “Players” stand for participating in the lives amongst youth to educate, and restore society. It was a part of this not for profit organization called “Teen In Motion,” and that’s where I learned how to step dance. That’s where I learned how to model. That’s where I learned how to do hip-hop dancing. It was my introduction to the performing arts.

So, stepping is definitely something that is, like I said is a form of a body of percussion where you know, you’re using your hands, your feet, and your body to make sounds, and beats that go together, and I hope you enjoy this series, because you’re going to get some serious foundational tips that’s going to make you a better stepper, and it’s based off my style of step, and how I relate to it.

Hi, my name is Victor Sho, and I’m going to tell you, what is stepping. Stepping, or as some people like to say, step dance, is a form of a body percussion. Yeah? It originates, even as far as, from my knowledge, from my experience, from what I know, back even all the way to the slaves. What they used to do is use it as a form of their communication, and the thing is, once slave masters caught on to it, instead of punishing them for doing things behind their back, what they pretty much did was kind of like use it as a form of their entertainment. They used to have the slaves battle using, you know, stepping, or a body percussion kind-of-like style.

What happened, with fraternities, is that they actually took that and actually brought it into their time, culture, and lifestyle, with their fraternities and sororities, to celebrate, I guess, where we have come from. You know what I’m saying? Now I have never pledged; you know, I’m not in a fraternity or whatever, but I do have some kind of affiliation with it, just because my first experience with step was being taught by Qs and Kappas. So all the caning, all the power stepping, all the party strolling or technical stepping I know, has come from that. Now, there are so many disputes on whether it’s called stepping or step dance, but I can only say from my experience. So this is not to offend anybody who is a master stepper or spent their whole life researching this craft, but as far as I know, up here in New York, this is how my experience is.

With stepping, there is technical stepping, there is power stepping. Yeah. There’s party strolling, and a lot of times, you know, there are certain, like, fraternities who only party stroll; there are certain fraternities who incorporate all. There are certain people who have backgrounds in step, such as myself, but only from a step team, in which they use it in talent shows. It’s just another, to me personally, stepping is just another dance form, in which you use to express dance through your body. Stepping became popular as early as in the 1900s, with, you know, like I said, fraternities and sororities. In the South it’s huge; up here in the North, it’s big too, but in the South, it’s almost like a lifestyle.

Hi, my name is Victor Sho and I’m going to show you an advanced party stroll. Alright? So we want to stay grounded right here. We’re going to step over with our right leg. Now you see how my body is positioned, slightly profiled towards the front? Stomps with the left leg. Your arm is going to go rolling right, left, right. This right hand comes down, pops it back, goes straight through for a punch. And you’re grounded in a plié right here. Now when you combine that with the movement of your feet it goes one, two, three, and punch. Okay? So it goes five, six, seven, and one, two, three and punch.

You’re going to do a stroll to your left, stomp with your right leg right here. Okay? One, two, three, punch, stroll left, stomp right. Now what we’re going to do is a hop. Okay? So you’re going to hop with your feet tucked in and you’re going to hitch kick both of your feet to the back in the air and then land with both feet together. Okay? Okay? Let’s take it back. So you’re going to go one, two, three, punch, stroll left, stomp right, hop, stomp with your left, bring your feet right here, bring your right feet right back out, and you’re going to hop towards your right again like that. Two hops.

Let’s take it back. So you’re going to go one, two, three, pop it back, punch, left stroll, right stomp, hop, step, stomp left, right step, right step, hop, right here. Okay? So now what we’re going to do from here is we’re going to prep into a turn on your right leg. And as you do that, your hands will be up in this right angle position right here and your feet will be flexed right here. Okay? And your feet can stay a little bit grounded. You don’t have to be too up with this turn. Okay?

So from here after we did this hop, you’re going to prep like this, boom, hop out with two feet. My body is positioned this way to prep me for my turn on my right leg, boom. And then you’re going to stomp there, boom. Yeah? And what you’re going to do is you’re going to hop on your left leg, stomping at the same time to clap over and under your right leg. So you’re going to go from here. Bop, clap, clap. Let’s take it back. Alright? Here we go. So, you’re going to go one, two, three, punch, left stroll, right stomp, hop, step, left stomp, right step, right step, hop, step, prep, turn right leg, stomp left. So now hop on your left leg. Boom, bop, bop. Okay?

So from here, boom, bop, bop, what you’re going to do is we’re going to finish this off by stomping on your right leg quickly, boom, and you’re going to keep this plié seated kind of like position right here, and you’re going to drop a little bit of a level as you stomp your left leg repetitively twice and extend your arm like this. Okay? Bop, boom, bop. Five, six, seven, and left, bop. Five, six, seven, and bop, boom, bop. Okay? And from here what you’re going to do is just loop the entire step over again.

So from here, you’re going to go roll into this one, two, three, punch, stomp, step, up, down, stomp, step, step, up, down, prep, turn, stomp, step, clap, clap, boom, boom, boom, boom. And then you’re going to finish it off at that last one, boom, boom, boom, stomp. Okay? You finish like that after you loop it. Five, six, five, six, seven, ho! [dances] And that’s the advanced party stroll.

Hi, my name is Victor Sho and I’m going to show you how to develop step team chants. The step team chants for Acandis, as they like to call it, is basically what sets the tone for the step. It also sets the tempo for the step. It also introduces the name of step or the name of the step team. It is like a representation of who you are and the energy you’re about to put into the step.

A lot of time, when I’m trying to develop a chant, what I like to do is use the name of the organization that I’m in, use my name, use the name of the step. For example, right now, we’re doing tutorials for Howcast. Today, we are Howcast Steppers. A simple connotation on this would be Howcast Steppers bring it down like. A lot of times, when you say bring it down, break it down, mix it up, bring that whatever.

You use something that shows you’re about to get it in, yeah. Cool? Definitely want to be loud and energetic. Once again, our chant. You can say it with me. Howcast Steppers break it down like. All right. I’ll do a demonstration. Howcast Steppers break it down like. That’s how you develop a chant to set up your step.

Hi, my name is Victor Sho, and right now I’m going to show you how I infuse krump dance with stepping. Okay? So, we’re going to go, we’re going to get grounded right now. We’re going to stomp with our right leg, stomp with our left leg, clap with our right, with our hands right here. So you’re going to go one, two. Five, six, seven, and one, two. Okay? So after you do that, what I want you to do is hit your thighs. Right, left. And then you’re going to go right, left, clap. Again. Right, left clap, hop hop, right, left, clap. Okay? Five, six, seven, and boom, boom bop, bop bop, boom, boom, bop. Five, six, five, six, seven, and. Okay?

So what we’re going to do right now, we’re going to slide our hands in, bring it out, and we’re going to punch our palm right here. Right fist, left palm. Bop. Okay? But what our legs are going to do is hop. Okay? And what we call this is kind of like a buck hop in krump. Yeah? Where you just drop on the lower, you just drop to one leg and sink in. Drop. Okay? Just five, six, seven, drop it, drop. So you drop. You’re sinking your body. Drop. Okay? The only difference is now we’re kind of going to do like a clomp with it. Here we go. Okay? Good.

So now you’re going to go clomp. So you’re going go clomp, and then right leg stomp, then you’re going to hit your hands. So it’s going to go, five, six, seven, and palm, boom, clap. Let’s take it back. So you’re going to go right, left, clap, boom, boom, clap, bop, bop. Five, six, seven and. Okay? Now you’re going to do your right, left thigh again. Bop bop. Right leg stomp, left leg stomp. Bop again. Okay? So you’re going to clomp, bop, boom bop, bop bop, boom, boom, bop. Okay? Five, six, seven and bop, bop, bop bop, boom, boom bop. Let’s take it back, five, six, five, six, seven, and [dances]. Okay?

So now you’re going to go bop, boom bop, bop bop, and you’re going to punch your arm right through your left hand. Bop, bop, boom. You see how I’m grounded right here? I’m going to punch my arm right through my left hand and come up with it, boom, and do a quick punch and a right leg stomp with it. Boom. So you’re going to go boom, boom. And as soon as you do that quick punch, boom, you’re going to do another clomp. So you’re going to go boom, boom, and then you’re going to do a clomp with your right leg stomping again. Bop. Okay? So it’s boom, boom, bop. Okay? Okay?

We’re almost there. Trust me, you’ve got this. So you’re going to go boom, boom bop, you’re going to do the same beat again. Bop. Okay so it’s going to be boom, boom clomp, left leg stomp, boom, bop. Another right, left on your thigh, bop bop. Right, left on your feet, boom boom, and clap. bop. So boom, boom bop, bop bop, boom, boom, clap. And then we’re going to finish it off right after this. From the top, five, six, seven, go.

Mm-hmm, we’re almost there. So this is how we’re going to finish it off. You’re going to stomp and throw your hands over here to the side, putting your left hand over your right. Boom. You’re going to throw your hands up, voom. Boom, voom. Boom. Bring your hands down and stomp with your left leg. Chest pop. Voom. One more buck hop and it’s going to go right, left. Boom boom. And you’re going to finish it off right here. Right, left. And that’s how you’re going to do it. So you’re going to go five, six, five, six, five, six, seven go.

Hi. My name is Victor Sho and this is Oscar Acevedo. He will be assisting me. And we are going to teach you a step dance that’s infused and more so influenced by Latin, kind of like a Latin feel. You know what I’m saying? Alright? So, here we go.

So, what you want to do is you want to start off with a clomp, okay? Okay? And then you want to lead after that clomp with another hand clamp. Okay? So after that you’re going to take a double and do another hand clap. And it’s going to go ba-boom, clap. So let’s add that up. So you’re going to go bop, bop, bop, bop, bop. Five, six, seven, and [dances]. Five, six, seven, and [dances]. Mm-hmm.

And now this left leg that’s right here in the back, you’re going to step it forward, boom, and take another hand clap. So you’re going to go, to combine it, you’re going to go clap, clap, bop bop, clap, boom, clap. Five, six, seven and bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop. So when you come over here what you’re going to do is double and then hit your thigh. So you’re going to go right, left, clap. Okay? So all your weight is right now on your right leg. So step on your left leg to start this whole synchronization, this combo again to go bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, boom, bop, ba-boom, bop. Okay? So you loop here. Here we go. Five, six, seven, and [dances]. And do it actually three times. Okay?

Now in between each time you loop it, what I want you to get used to is a little hiccup [laughs] to start again. Okay? So after you do this double and hit your thigh, you want to do a little jump up to start that clomp again. You want to stay grounded. You want to try and use a little hips, a little action, alright? [singspeak]. That’s kind of like the feel you want to do, okay? Alright? So here we go, three times. Five, six, five, six, seven, five, six, seven, and [dances].

Now this is the big finish! Okay. So here we go. What you’re going to do is you’re actually going to do two triplets into a five and they’re all going to start with a clomp. So you’re going to go one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, four, five. So right after you do that five right here, what you’re going to do is a double into a hand clap and then we’re done. Ba-boom, bop. So it goes five, six, seven, and one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, four, five, ba-boom, bop.

What we do after this is we just start the step over again. Okay? So after we do this, we begin the step, re-loop it. Okay? So it’s going to go one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, four, five, ba-boom, bop. Again! [dances] Here we go! [dances] And we finish off with that stage just like that. Boom! Okay? And that’s how we’re going to do it.

So let’s do it slow and then me and Oscar will do it a little bit more fast, a little bit more flavor, a little more full out. Five, six, get grounded, here we go, and a [dances with intermediate sounds]. Now we’re going to do it full out. Five, six, five, six, five, six, seven, ho! [dances] And that’s how you do a step influenced by Latin movement.

Hi, name is Victor Sho, and this is my assistant Oscar Acevedo, and we are going to teach you how to freestyle step. So when you’re freestyle stepping, all you have to do is, honestly, keep a solid bass beat, a simple one. It can be as simple as a hand clap (one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight), or even a simple beat which is what we’re going to be doing. We’re going to go boom, boom bop, boom, boom, bop. And then what the challenge is is to stay on a specific tempo, and while that one person is holding that bass beat, you just go for it and try to make any beat that you can think of. Keep it simple, but try to make any beat that you can think of and, honestly, just stay on tempo and then you should just be fine. Okay?

And then you just interchange. You do like one eight count, the next person does one eight count. Or you can do vice versa like that. So me and Oscar are going to do a quick demonstration. We’ll try to do a bass beat. He’ll go, I’ll go, he’ll go, I’ll go. And try to just keep the first one a little bit simple, and then the second one. Alright? So, let’s so this. Here we go. Five, six, seven, here we go, ho! Here we go! [dances with intermediate sounds] And that’s how you freestyle step.

That is the bass piece and now we are going to add the actual step that we need to learn to combine with this bass piece. So coming on to start off; put your right stomp, left stomp clap situation. You are going to go 1 and 2, 5, 6, 7, 8…..5,6,7,8, 1 and 2, and that is right, left clap. Okay. And what happens is after you clap, you should clap like this, put your hands like this, you are going to hit your chest ah, pop, boom, pop and that is the right stomp to a clap again.

So check it back, it said right, left clap pop, pop, boom, clap. So, you want to hit your chest with two hands, your thighs with two hands. When you hit your thighs you want to look at those thighs and then come back up to your focus comes back from down to up when you clap your hands. What you are going to do from here on is, take three steps with your left leg. You are going to go and boom, boom and boom. And just realize that my hands are placed over my right. My focus is looking down. Okay. So, all my weight is on my left leg.

Alright, let’s take it back. So you are going to go boom, pop, pop, pop, boom, pop, boom, boom, boom. So, that was 1, 2, 3 you are going to keep the same triplet kind of sound beat going on with the hands right here. 1, 2, 3. Okay. So, it is going to go 1, 2, 3. 1, 2, 3 and now you are going to do the same thing you just did to your left towards your right. 1, 2, 3 same thing. Right focus is right here down, you are looking this way, your hands are towards your left or your weight is on your right. So, let us combine that together, you are going to go 1 and 2, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, parap, pa, pa, pa. So from right here you are going to clap. Then you are going to go left, right. And that left, right is going to bring you to the center.

So, after you go three times over here, boom, boom, boom, clap, left, right. And how do we start this step? We start it with our right leg stomp. Right and that is just how we end it. So guess what we are going to loop the step again. So, after you go here. Boom, boom, boom, pop, boom and do it again pop, pop, boom, pop, boom, boom, boom, 1, 2, 3, boom, boom, pop and you just finish it off with your left leg stomp, boom, your arms are extended right here and next do a right leg stomp into a stage. And that is the step right there. Let us take it back, we are going to loop it and then we are going do the bass beat. So, you are going to go pop, 6, pop, 6, 7 and a…

So, I am going to ask you to do the same bass beat that we just taught you. Right and then I am going to join in with this new intermediate step. 5, 6…5, 6, 5, 6, 7, ho… Alright and that is how you do an intermediate step combined to a base beat.

Hi my name is Victor Sho and I’m going to teach you an intermediate party stroll, this is my assistant Oscar Asalido and we’re gonna get right into it.

So what were going to do, is we’re gonna do simple party stroll to left, party stroll to the right, simple.

And what we’re gonna do after that is we’re gonna slide we’re gonna shoot our arms this way we’re gonna slide with a nice lunge this way.

And we’re gonna do that into a stomp with our arms with our right leg and contract right here, so after we do a party stroll to the left right stomp, party stroll to the right left stomp, gonna slide and stomp with our right leg.

And then what you’re gonna do is take a step and pivot with on your left leg, here. What you’re gonna do is bring this right hand back up here.

Why? Because it’s prepping to clap under here. Take it back. So gonna go stroll to the left right stomp, stroll to the right left stomp, slide to the left right stomp, step over with your right left, clap under your left.

[inaudible 1:28]

Alright, okay so from here what you’re gonna do is you’re gonna hop onto your left leg and stomp on that left leg as you raise your hands up. So from here you’re gonna go [stomping noise 1:40] yep and you’re gonna clap over your leg, and then under your leg, okay?

Let’s take it back. So stroll to the left right stomp, stroll to the right left stomp, slide to the left right stomp, elbow with your right clap under your left, hop on your left, clap under, clap over then under, okay?

From here we’re going to take this right leg and we’re going to step over with our hands, pivot to the side this way, and then you bring this left leg and you stomp right here. Once again after we take this step over here, clap under, stomp, clap clap, step here.

Let’s take it back.

From the beginning 5, 6, 7 and it’s left, right, right, left, slide left, right slide, right here, clap under, step here.

From here what we’re going to do is we’re going to start strolling back. Starting with our left leg hiking up our right left and then we’re gonna contract our torso. So it’s gonna go like this [inaudible 3:05] and that’s not gonna be any sound right there. The sound starts as soon as we throw our hands towards our front, so we put our right leg down. Now we stomp on our left and hike up our right and we stay low.

Contract a little bit so you’re not coming fully up but your hands drop as your right leg drops and then stomp on your left leg again. Now you do a quick ball change as you get up, right, left, and then you start on your left again to start the whole thing all over slowly. Stomp right, left stomp slide left right stomp, step right clap under your left, hop stomp clap clap, step to your side stomp with your left facing forward. And you’re gonna put all your weight on your left leg hiking up your right and you just gonna silently go down and you keep this groove going here. Now you shoot your arms up here. Okay.

So this groove is simple, you’re just gonna continuously pick that right leg up as you stomp this left leg. But the first one is soft, it comes down. And then this last one right here you gonna ball change. And that’s how we do it.

Let’s try it again from the beginning, all the way to the end slowly. 5, 6, 7 go left stroll right stomp, right stroll left stomp, left slide right stomp, right step clap under your left, hope clap clap, side step front step , soft boom, boom ball change. Okay and you see that ball change leads into the stroll so after you go back right here you’re going down soft stomp, soft stomp to start the ball change right here, into the stroll, starting over again.

Slide boom, clap, boom bap bap, side step front, here softly stomp, softly stomp we finish.

Now me and Oscar gonna do a little bit more on the tempo and then full out here we go.

5, 6, 5, 6, 5, 6, 7. ho ho hey, slide out . . . ball change . . . slide . . . side step front step, softly, hard, softly, and finished.

Alright now we’re gonna show you how to do it with music, and you’ll see how the music effects our bodies and our movement, okay.

5, 6, 5, 6, 7.

Hi, name is Victor Sho and this is my assistant Oscar Acevedo and we are going to show you a beginner level party stroll. Okay? So, simple. You’re going to get grounded as usual. We’re going to stroll to the left, stomp with the right, stroll to the right, stomp with the left. We’re going to stroll to the left again. We’re going to point our fingers, our arms to the right, and stomp with the right. We’re going to stroll to the right and do the same thing towards the left. Okay? Cool. So let’s try that again. Five, six, seven, and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

From here, what you’re going to do is you’re going to stroll to the left again and then you’re going to clomp over your head, and then you’re going to stroll to the right again, and as you stroll, you’re going to rub down your party. Yep! Whatever. Got to get sexy with it. Got to have some swag with it. Ladies, you can feminize it. Guys, you can get masculine with it. Do a body roll, however you want to do it, but it’s your own flavor. This is the benefit of party strolling. It’s a dance. You can groove it, you do it how you do. Yeah?

So what happens is after you clomp, step over, put your hands on your body, grab your pants, stomp. Okay? Then you’re going to stroll to the left, bring your hands back, and then stroll over here, step, bring your hands even more further back to punch forward, bop! And that’s the combo right there. Okay?

Let’s take it back slowly and then you’ll see how it flows. Five, six, seven, and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven punch, eight. Me and Oscar are going to do this to music and you’re going to see how the music helps you get that groove that you want with the party stroll, which is what makes the movement more different from a power step. Alright? Cue the music. Five, six, five, six, seven, ho! Again! And that’s how you do a beginner party stroll.

Hi my name is Victor Sho. And this is my assistant Oscar Acevedo. And we are going to teach you an advanced power step. Okay. So get grounded over here. We’re going to do the same that we did in the other two beginners and intermediate.

We’re going to do two strolls to the left and to the right. All right. So stroll to the left. Stomp. Stroll to the right. Stomp. Okay. So what we’re going to do from here is, we’re going to come up a little. So now stomp on our left leg and hike up our right leg. And also contract at the same time. So you’re going to go boom. And you’re already down right now so you should be a little bit plied at the left leg to stomp down on your right and come up. Then you’re going to do the same thing. You’re going to shoot down so you’re lower body is going to do the same thing.

The only difference is your arm is going to shoot up. And what’s going to is you’re going to go. Okay. Hold your balance. You’re going to look up. You’re going to look down. When your right leg stomps, your left hand comes down to the left corner. Let’s take that back. So what we’re going to do. 5, 6, 7, and stroll to the right. Stroll to the left. And boom, boom, boom, boom. Stroll right stomp. Stroll left stomp. Boom, boom, boom, boom. Okay. So from here, what we’re going to do is hop twice to our left, stomping on the left leg and leaning, putting all our weight on that left leg. My arm is a little bit more relaxed. The only thing that moves is my shoulder. Up and down. Up and down. And that’s as I hop. Boom. Boom. So my shoulders hike up when I jump. Shoots down when I stomp. Okay. And my arms are just really relaxed. Okay.

Everything else is precise. So we’re going to go boom. Okay. That is the only time your arms are relaxed. Okay. So here we go from the beginning. 5, 6, 7, and 1, 2, 3, 4 and clap. And what happens is this right leg starts to same ending that we do in all the other two power steps. We’re going to go right corner up. Left corner down. Left corner up. Right corner down. Right left with the feet moving forward. Double right left bring it to a stage. Let’s take that back. Okay. So we went slowly 1, 2, 3, 4 and clap to the. So tempo. Stroll right stomp. Stroll left stomp and clap. Okay. So now me and Oscar will demonstrate full out. 5, 6, 5, 6, 5, 6, 7. And that’s how you do an advanced power step combo.

Hi, my name is Victor Sho and this is my assistant Oscar Acevedo and we are going to do an intermediate power step combo. Alright, so what you want to do is get grounded right and then we’re going to start again with a basic stroll to the left. Step, stomp, step. So step, right stomp, step right leg, left stomp. Okay? Just like how we did it in the beginner version. So you’re going to go boom, bop, boom, bop. Okay? And then what you’re going to do, we already, kind of like, have this like plié formation right now. So what you’re going to do is hop on your left leg and stomp on it, boom, and you’re going to put your hands right here, right in like the forehead area. You’re going to clap up. You’re going to clap down. You’re going to clap up again. And it’s going to go boom, bop, bop, boom. Five, six, seven, and. Five, six, seven, and. Okay?

So what you’re going to do after that, as soon as you clap over here, this foot that’s still kind of up you’re going to drop it down, boom, and then clap under your left leg. Then drop this left leg that’s down, boom boom, and when that left leg drops down you just groove it out by bouncing on it. So you’re going to go from here, you’re going to go boom, clap, boom. Okay? Let’s take it back. So you’re going to go stomp, five, six, five, six, roll to to your left and stroll to your right. One hop, boom. Okay?

So what happens when you do that last stomp right there and you groove down? You’re just going to end the same exact way we ended in our beginner power step. So you’re going to shoot up, boom, shoot down, torso up, boom, shoot down right corner, boom, shoot toward the forward, boom boom, and you want to end off with a double and go into the stage position, boom boom. Okay? Let’s combine that. Alright, from the beginning. So we’re going to go stroll to the left, stomp, pull to the right, stomp, pop, clap, clap, clap, stomp, boom. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, ba-boom. And that’s how you do an intermediate power step.

So now me and Oscar are actually going to show you how to do this power step full out. Here we go. Alright? You always want to have fun with this, guys. Here we go! Five, six, five, six, seven, and. And that’s how you do an intermediate power step.

Hi my name is Victor Sho. And this is my assistant Oscar Acevedo. And we are going to teach you a beginner power step combo. Okay. So get grounded right here. What we are going to do is we’re going to step over with our left.

And we’re going to stomp with our right. And we’re going to contract our arms like this. Pushing it forward, forward while we contract. Pushing it back while we retract and open up our chest. Contract arms forward. Open up your chest. Arms are back. So what we’re going to do is we’re going to go and 1. Step with your left. And 2 stomp with your right. Okay. So, and 1 and 2 Okay. You want to keep this kind of like a groove into a quick sharp stop. Okay. So you’re going to go and 1 and 2

And then what you’re going to do now is repeat the same thing but moving to your right. So you’re going to cock your right leg up with your hands back. Place it down with your hands forward and your body contracted. Bring your left leg up with your hands back. Stomp your left leg with your hands forward and your body contracted. So, together it’s going to go 5, 6, 7 and 1, 2 3, 4 So from here, what you’re going to do is you’re going to step over here. Stomp again but your arms are going to shoot to the right. You’re going to keep your hands, your elbows, everything and shoulder distance. And then you’re going to keep those arms there as you step over to the right and shoot it to the left. So let’s combine those two. So we’re going to go 1, 2 3, 4 5, 6 7, 8 So 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 5 and 6 7 and 8 Okay. Now from here what you’re going to do is you’re to shoot your right hand and point it towards the upper corner with your left hand as well. But, you’re going to stomp with your right leg. Stomp with you right leg. Then you’re going to shoot it down to the left lower corner and stomp your left leg.

Then you’re going to shift up to the upper left corner by moving your torso right here and stomp with the right leg. And then you’re going to shoot it down to the right lower corner and stomp with your left leg. Okay. Let’s combine that. So, we’re going to start from the beginning. 5, 6, 5, 6, 7 and 1, and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 and 1, 2, 3, 4 Got those counts? Cool, because we’re moving on. What you’re going to do from here is you’re going to take your right hand and you’re going to put it right here. And you’re going to do two stomps right left.

Boom boom. And you’re going to finish the step off by doing another right left stomp. But a little faster and you’re going to bring your arms right here. Boom boom. Let’s take it back. So you’re going to go 1,2 and 3, 4 and 5, 6 and 7, 8 up. All right. So that’s how you do it. But now we’re going to do it full out. Ready. Here we go. 5, 6, here we go, 5, 6, 7 And that’s how you do a beginner power step combo.

Hi everybody. My name is Victor Sho and this is Oscar Acevedo. He will be assisting me today. So we are going to be teaching an advanced technical step combo. This combo is a little difficult because it has weight shifting and it has clomps in it, which are hand claps and stomps at the same time. Alright?

So what we want to do is we want to get grounded, as usual, and we want to start with a single stomp and then two thigh hits. Okay? Boom, bop, bop. Five, six, seven, and boom, stomping with the right leg. Five, six, seven, and. Okay? And then you want to stomp with your left leg, boom, and do a hand clap. And you’re going to go right, right, left, left, clap. So this is going to go boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Okay? Now the only thing with this hand clap is I want you to clap it up in an upward motion when you do it. Think of like, nutty professor when he goes, ‘Hercules, Hercules, Hercules!’ Whatever, but whatever, that’s me. So you’re going to go boom, bop, bop, boom, clap up. Alright? Five, six, seven, and. It’s a little Hercules clap.

And then you’re going to go boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. You’re going to take your left leg stomp, you’re going to shift all your weight on it, and you’re going to do two hand claps, right one on your chest and one on your thigh. So after you do this, clap clap, you take a stomp on your left which puts all your weight on it. It gives you this angle right here. So now I go ha, ha. So when you go to combine it to what we just had, it goes boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Boom, bop, bop. Yeah? Five, six, seven, and [dances]. Mm-hmm.

And what happens is we’re going to put this right leg down and stomp on it and then we’re going to end with a clomp on our left leg and our hand clap. So you’re going to go boom, bop. And that timing’s a little different, so it goes boom, bop. Boom, bop. Five, six, seven boom, bop. That’s how we’re going to do it. Five, six, seven boom, bop. So it kind of cuts right into the count. Five, six, seven boom, bop. Okay? Five, six, seven boom, bop. Alright? So let’s combine that to what we just had. Okay? So you’re going to go boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Boom, bop, bop boom, bop. Five, six, seven, and. Okay.

Now you’re going to do that phrase right there twice. Okay? So you’re going to go boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Boom, bop, bop boom bop. Again ah, ah, ah, ah, bop. Boom, bop, bop boom, bop. Okay? One more time. Five, six, five, six, seven, and da, da, da, da, da. Da, da, da doo, da. Da, da, da, da, da. Da, da, da doo, da. Okay? So now the only difference is with the second clomp that you do, you’re going to go into a four. Okay? So it’s going to go bop, bop, bop, bop. Five, six, seven, and one, two, three, four. Five, six, seven, and one, two, three, four. And that’s on your second clomp, so when we combine it together it goes five, six, five, six, seven, and boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Boom, bop, bop boom, one clomp. Boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, bop, bop, bop. Okay?

Alright, we’re almost there. So what we’re going to do is loop the step now. Okay? So how do we start the step? With our right leg. And what is up right now? Your right leg. So we’re going to loop it right now. After you do that four you’re going to go bop, bop, bop, bop and you’re going to start again. Da, da, da, da, da. Da, da, da doo, da. Da, da, da, da, da. Da, da, da doo, bop, bop, bop, bop, boom. Okay?

So now we’re going to do it slowly one more time from beginning. We’re going to loop it once and do it to the end, and then we’re going to do it full out. Okay? So you get the full capacity of it. So, slowly. Five, six, five, six, seven, and [dances]. Okay? So now we’re going to do it full out, normal speed. Hope you’re ready. Here we go. Ready? Five, six, here we go, and a five, six, five, six, seven, ho! And that’s how you do an advanced technical step.

Hi, my name is Victor Sho, and I’m going to show you how to do a simple step for beginners. It’s going to incorporate your power stepping and your technical stepping all in one. Okay? So we’re going to stomp with our left, clap, and then hit our right thigh. It’s going to go boom, bop, bop. Five, six, seven, and. Okay? This right leg that’s up, we’re going to stomp it down, clap again, hit our left thigh. Five, six, seven, and. So when we combine it together we’re going to go five, six, seven, and left, clap, hit, right, clap, hit. Okay?

So from here what we’re going to do is we’re now going to go into the stepping part. Stomp your left leg, extend your arms to the right. Stomp your right leg, extend your arms to the left. Stomp your left leg, extend your arms to the upper corner. Stomp your right leg, extend your arms to the left lower corner. Okay? Let’s just take that back from here. So we just said boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, bop. Boom, boom, boom, boom. Boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, bop. Boom, boom, boom, boom.

So what we’re going to do is punch our arms right through and we’re going to stomp with our left leg, boom. Now you see how my left hand came right over my right arm? Then we’re going to put this arm right out, boom, hold two, three, four, boom. And then we’re done. So it’s going to look like this. Five, six, seven, and one and two, and uh, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, hold, two, three, four, boom. Okay? So here we go. Five, six, five, six, five, six, seven, and. And that’s a beginner step.

Hi, my name is Victor Sho, and I’m going to tell you what a horse clap is. Okay?

A horse clap is another form of a triplet, because it’s actually something that goes in three’s. The only difference with the horse clap is that it can go into a horse clap of three, a horse clap that can lead into a four, or a horse clap that can even lead into a five. Once again, I’m just going to be clear that this is not a universal language for step. This is what my step team, my step company, uses as a form of language to teach our students and explain our style. All right?

Basically, when you are doing to horse clap, it’s basically like this. It’s just that simple. The only difference is, it can be used in different ways. Okay? 1-2-3. It’s 1-2-3. Another way I explain it is basically for people to move at their wrist, once their left hand is hit. You are hitting this hand right here, clap, that hand rotates. The reason why that’s important is because sometimes when people are doing a horse clap, they actually go, 1-2-3. The thing is, that uses so much more force and energy that you can burn yourself out if you do it continuously. Moving at the wrist uses a lot less energy. Very important detail to keep note. Okay? It goes 1-2-3.

They call it a horse clap, because you can see everyone do this. It sounds like a horse clap. It’s just literally that simple.

Hi, my name is Victor Sho and what I’m going to explain to you right now is the difference between threes, fours, fives and sixes.

Now once again this is not a universal language, this is pretty much what my step dance company of players use as a form of a language to explain to our students when we’re teaching them. Okay? So this is our style.

So basically threes, some people call them triplets, I call them threes. You basically are, this is a three right here.

A four would be one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four. One, two, three, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, four.

A five is one, two, three, four, five. One, two, three, four, five. One, two, three, four, five.

And the six is just as simple as it sounds. One, two, three, four, five, six. One, two, three, four, five, six. One, two, three, four, five, six. Okay?

So these are the synchronization of hand claps and body hits. We call them threes, fours and fives. There’s no stopping in between them. So now the thing with this is that these patterns can continue however, the rhythm is what changes the beat and makes it different.

So I can do a three like this, or, those are all three different beats and the same thing I can apply with a five. So you just got to understand that it’s the same kind of formation, same pattern of hits however, the way you hit it and the rhythm that you use to hit it is what varieties those different kind of movements.

Okay? So those are threes, fours, fives, and sixes.

Hi. My name is Vic Rochelle, and I am going to show you how to do contracting, and releasing, in power stepping.

When you’re doing party, your strolls in power stepping, you want to understand that you have a contraction right here, then you release in the air to stomp and contract again. Okay? The contracting helps you ground yourself, keeping you closer to the ground, and give you a harder stomp.

Sometimes people try to cheat, and do their power stepping, and their strolls up here. This ain’t going to cut it. I’m going to tell you why. Because if you contact, and get down with it, naturally you’re going to make a harder sound, and you’ll feel better about it. So you’re going to go. Okay?

Another reason why it’s important to contract when you’re doing these strolls is because, like I said, it’ll keep you grounded, and it puts less pressure on your ankles, and your knees. If you’re not contracted, and you’re kind of like standing up being lazy doing this power step, which is the wrong time to be lazy ever, you’re putting more work on your ankles and knees to make that equal sound that you do when you’re grounded. Okay?

Always understand it’s better to contract, release in the air, so you can contract even harder when you come down. That’s how you contract and release in power stepping.

Hi, my name is Victor Sho and this is my assistant Oscar Acevedo, and we are going to teach you a basic technical step combo. Alright? So what you want to do is you stomp with your right leg, then you stomp with your left leg, then you do a hand clap. Then you do it in this beat fragment right here. Boom, boom, clap. Five, six, seven, and right, boom. Five, six, seven, and. Mm-hmm.

Then you’re going to continue on to add a right hit and a right on your thigh and a left hit on your thigh. Cool? So you’re going to go boom, boom bop, boom, bop bop. Boom, boom bop, boom, bop bop. Five, six, seven, and bop, bop bop, bop, bop bop. Okay? So now you’re going to add a left stomp and another hand clap to that combo right there. And we’re just going to go boom, left, clap. Okay? So you’re going to go right, left clap, right, left, left, boom, clap. Okay?

And then you’re going to do that twice. So you’re going to go boom, boom bop, boom, bop bop, boom, bop. Boom, boom bop, boom, bop bop, boom, bop. Okay? Five, six, five, six, seven, and a. So, after this clap you’re going to go right, left, right. Okay? So it’s going to go clap, boom, boom, boom. Five, six, seven, and. Five, six, seven, and clap, boom, boom, boom. Five, six, seven, and bop, boom, boom, boom. If you’ll realize my body is swimming over to my right side so all my weight ends on my right leg. Okay?

So let’s combine that. So you’re going to go boom, boom bop, boom, bop bop, boom, bop. Again. Boom, boom, bop, boom, bop bop, boom, bop, boom, boom, boom. Okay? So now that is one for a kind of a step, so to complete the entire eight counts what we need to do is loop it. Cool? So we’re going to go boom, boom bop, boom, bop bop, boom, bop. Boom, boop bop, boom, bop bop, boom, bop. Boom, boom, boom.

So we end with that right leg but how do we start? With our right leg. So that’s how we transition into the loop. So when we go bop, boom, boom, boom, you start again, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Boom, boom bop, boom, bop bop, boom, bop, boom, boom, boom. And then you’re done. Okay? So now me and Oscar are going to demonstrate it full out, this basic technical step. Here we go. Five, six, here we go, and a five, six, five, six, seven, and a. And that’s how you do a basic technical step.

Hi, my name is Victor Sho, and I’m going to show you how to do arm movements in power stepping. Okay? When you do your power stepping, you have your strolls. We have these lines right here. Basically, what I want to teach you is how to move efficiently through them so that they’re precise, accurate, and strong. See here?

If you realize what makes it accurate is that I move using my joints. I do not use my whole arm. A lot of people have the habit of doing that, and it is not as clean and not as precise. You use way more energy than you need to. It’s so much easier to just move with the elbow and the joints of your elbows to make the arc, to make the movement more smooth, and to make them more accurate. Okay? See here?

Okay? Understand that, when you’re doing this also you want to keep your hands, your elbows, the entire arm, all at shoulder length. Very important. The reason why it’s important is because not also were you doing faster power stepping, you can move efficiently, smoothly, accurately, and more powerful.

Here’s a demonstration of how you do power stepping using arm movements. Slow and fast, accurate. Here we go. 5-6-7. . .

Hi, my name is Victor Sho, and this is my assistant Oska Ossevato, and we are going to teach you an intermediate technical step combo. So what I want you to do, is get grounded right here. We’re going to start off with a double step going right, left. Five, six, five, six, seven, eight. Six, five, six, seven, eight. Six, five, six, seven, eight. Then you’re going to do two thigh hits. Then you’re going to do another single. Then you’re going to do a hand clap. So you’re going to go right, left, right, left. Five, six, seven, and.

Now after this clap right here, you’re going to shift your weight over here as you take another single stomp. Put your hands up here, do another thing hit, right here. Then what you’re going to do is bring your weight back over center. Take another single stomp with your left and do another hand clap. So after this hand clap right here, you’re going to go lean right, bop, bop, boom, bop. So when you combine it, it’s going to sound something like this. You’re going to go boom, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop.

A little faster, five, six, five, six, seven, and boom, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. So after you do that, what you want to do is that same combo that we just did, two times. So you’re going to go boom, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. So now all your weight is kind of like on your left leg right here. ‘ause what’s going to happen is, you’re going to take three stomps, right, left, right, leaning over with your swimming’ out to the right.

So from here you’re going to go boom, boom, boom. So after you do this clap…clap, boom, boom, boom. Five, six, seven and clap, boom, boom, boom. So when combine that to what we just did, it sounds like this boom, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, boom, boom. One more time, five, six, five, six, seven, and boom, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, boom, boom. So that phrase right there, we want to do it twice. We’re going to go five, six, five, six, seven, and da, da, da, da, da, da, da, dada, da ,da, boom, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, boom, boom.

Now we want to loop this, so in order to loop it, we have to find our transitional moment which is right here. After you go bop, boom, boom, boom, you’re going to do another thigh clap, bop, bop. Which is how we pretty much started that first step. Now this is how we loop it, cause we’re going to do that same step right here to continue into the second step, which is the same thing, you know what I mean? After you go right here, you’re going to go clap, boom, boom, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, boom, boom, boom. That’s it. What we’re going to do right now, we’re just going to demonstrate it, little bit more fast paced, so you can see it and then fall out.

OK. Five, six, five, six, seven, and. And that’s how you do an intermediate technical step.

Hi, my name is Victor Shell, and I’m going to show you how to hop, when you’re doing your power step or a party stroll. Now people use hops all the time and there’s so many different ones you can do. There’s ones over here, there’s ones over here. Or, there’s a specific one that you can use in your side to side stroll that I really like to use.

So you’re going to go right stroll, left stomp, left stroll, right stomp. And you’re going to jump in the air, your arms are going to go back, and naturally when your arms go back, your chest kind of releases out. And when you land, your feet are going to be together and your arms are going to be forward and you’re going to be contracted. Now when you’re in the air, the goal is to keep your feet glued together, and you’re going to do a hitch-kick, with both of them kicking towards the back.

And this looks like this. Now to reset it, you step with your left, you step with your right, you step over back again with your right, and then you hop towards you right again. Feet together. And then you keep on doing the same thing. Start with your left, right, right, here we go. Left, right, right, here we go. That’s how you do that kind of hop that I like. So, let me give you a demonstration of how you can use it. Once again, you can do this with music, or without. But we’re going to do it without music. Here we go. Five, six, seven, and one, two, three, four, hop, six, seven, eight, hop, hop, hop. And that’s how you hop in a power step or party stroll.

Hi, my name is Victor Sho, and this is my assistant Oscar Acevedo, and we are going to teach you a beginner level of how to combine a step to a bass beat. So we’re going to start off teaching you the bass beat and then Oscar will always do the bass beat. And I will you another step, which is just one step routine that you will do one at a time and then together. Alright?

So, we start off with our bass beat. What we’re going to do is do a single stomp with our right leg, and then you go onto your left and do a hand clap. Okay? So you’re going to go boom, boom clap. Five, six, seven, and right, left right. Five, six, seven, and right, left, right. Then you’re going to go right, left clap, boom, bop. Right, left clap, right stomp, right thigh. So it goes five, six, seven, and.

So now you’re going to add your left stomp and another hand clap right after that. So it’s going to go boom, boom bop, boom, bop, boom, bop. After we do this phrase right here, five, six, seven, and [dances], you’re going to do another single stomp right here, another left single stomp, and a clap. Do another hand clap. Okay? So let’s combine that right there. So you’re going to go boom, boom clap, boom, bop, boom, bop. Boom, boom, bop. Cool? So now, right now, you’ve got to understand that we just, our last stomp was on our left leg but we’re going to do another stomp on the left leg to now clap over the right and then under the right. Okay? So it’s going to go, let’s take it from here. Boom, boom bop, boom, clap, clap. Okay? So let’s combine that all together.

So it should sound something like this. So it should go boom, boom bop, boom, bop, boom, bop. Boom, boom bop, boom, bop, bop. Okay? And then we’re going to do this one more time. So now we loop it, yeah? So this right leg is up and you’re just going to use that next stomp to start it all over again. And it’s just going to go boom, boom bop, boom, bop, boom, bop. Boom, boom bop, boom, bop, bop, and finish, boom. So now, that is our bass beat. And it sounds pretty much like this. Five, six, five, six, five, six, seven, and [dances]. And that’s your bass beat.

So now we’re going to add the actual step that we need to learn to combine with this bass beat. You ready? Here we go. We stomp with our left leg, and clap over our right and then under our right. We want to stomp with our right leg and clap over our left and then under our left. And the beat goes boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, bop. One more time. Five, six, seven, and a [dances]. Okay?

So right now you’re going to stomp this leg right here, boom, and then clap with your hand. Okay? Then you’re going to go, to combine it together it’s going to go boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom, clap. Okay? And then you’re going to take a stomp with your right leg, boom, and hit both your thighs with your hands, bop. So it’s going to go five, six, seven, and boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Boom, bop.

To finish that off you’re going to stomp with your left leg and clap twice with your hands. Boom, bop, bop. Cool? So let’s add that on. So it’s going to go boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Boom, bop, boom bop. Bop. Okay? So now to finish this you’re going to do it one more time again but the ending is going to be a little bit difference. So after you said boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom bop. Boom, bop, boom bop. Bop. You’re going to do it one more time. Boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom bop. Boom, bop, boom bop. And now this ending is where the difference comes.

You’re going to do two doubles and end off with a single. Ba-boom, ba-boom, boom. Once again, after you hit your thighs right here you’re going to go right left, right left, right. Okay? So let’s combine it, just that second part. So you’re going to go boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, bop, boom bop. Boom, bop, boom bop. Ba-boom, ba-boom, boom. Okay? So now when you put it all together for just the step alone it sounds like this.

So now we’re going to take that step and mix it with the bass beat to create a whole new beat. Are you ready? I’m going to do it slow, in tempo, and then we’re done. Here we go. Five, six, five, six, five, six, seven and. And that’s how you do it.

Hi, my name is Victor Sho, and I am basically going to explain what is party strolling. Okay?

Party strolling is a form of power stepping. The only difference is that it’s done to music. In that sense, it allows you to be a little more free, allows you to incorporate a little bit of more dance into it, and, depending on which song that you use, the movement kind of changes, even if you choreograph it, because, a lot of times people choreograph power stepping, I mean their party stroll before the music even comes, but you will feel it when the music comes, the groove comes in and everything else.

So what I like to do when I explain power stepping, I understand that it is a little more precise, because you’re creating all of these pictures. You can do the same thing with party strolling. The only difference, like I said, is there are elements of street style. There are elements of Hip Hop in it, like, in locking, they have this thing which you call a Tom and Jerry. You have this kind of funky groove, which you’re locking. It’s a form of Hip Hop. It’s still dancing. However, you can apply that understanding of movement and groove to party strolling. There are people who step just really stiff, like this. However, if you applied that same kind of funky move that you use in locking, that Tom and Jerry kind of movement to party strolling, then you add a little bit more flavor to it. You get a little bit more, more moves, do you understand what I’m saying?

That’s party stroll. I’m going to show you a little demonstration.
