How to Do Beginner Power Step Dance Combo

Transcript

Hi everybody. My name is Victor Sho and this is Oscar Acevedo. He will be assisting me today. So we are going to be teaching an advanced technical step combo. This combo is a little difficult because it has weight shifting and it has clomps in it, which are hand claps and stomps at the same time. Alright?

So what we want to do is we want to get grounded, as usual, and we want to start with a single stomp and then two thigh hits. Okay? Boom, bop, bop. Five, six, seven, and boom, stomping with the right leg. Five, six, seven, and. Okay? And then you want to stomp with your left leg, boom, and do a hand clap. And you’re going to go right, right, left, left, clap. So this is going to go boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Okay? Now the only thing with this hand clap is I want you to clap it up in an upward motion when you do it. Think of like, nutty professor when he goes, ‘Hercules, Hercules, Hercules!’ Whatever, but whatever, that’s me. So you’re going to go boom, bop, bop, boom, clap up. Alright? Five, six, seven, and. It’s a little Hercules clap.

And then you’re going to go boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. You’re going to take your left leg stomp, you’re going to shift all your weight on it, and you’re going to do two hand claps, right one on your chest and one on your thigh. So after you do this, clap clap, you take a stomp on your left which puts all your weight on it. It gives you this angle right here. So now I go ha, ha. So when you go to combine it to what we just had, it goes boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Boom, bop, bop. Yeah? Five, six, seven, and [dances]. Mm-hmm.

And what happens is we’re going to put this right leg down and stomp on it and then we’re going to end with a clomp on our left leg and our hand clap. So you’re going to go boom, bop. And that timing’s a little different, so it goes boom, bop. Boom, bop. Five, six, seven boom, bop. That’s how we’re going to do it. Five, six, seven boom, bop. So it kind of cuts right into the count. Five, six, seven boom, bop. Okay? Five, six, seven boom, bop. Alright? So let’s combine that to what we just had. Okay? So you’re going to go boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Boom, bop, bop boom, bop. Five, six, seven, and. Okay.

Now you’re going to do that phrase right there twice. Okay? So you’re going to go boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Boom, bop, bop boom bop. Again ah, ah, ah, ah, bop. Boom, bop, bop boom, bop. Okay? One more time. Five, six, five, six, seven, and da, da, da, da, da. Da, da, da doo, da. Da, da, da, da, da. Da, da, da doo, da. Okay? So now the only difference is with the second clomp that you do, you’re going to go into a four. Okay? So it’s going to go bop, bop, bop, bop. Five, six, seven, and one, two, three, four. Five, six, seven, and one, two, three, four. And that’s on your second clomp, so when we combine it together it goes five, six, five, six, seven, and boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Boom, bop, bop boom, one clomp. Boom, bop, bop, boom, bop. Boom, bop, bop, boom, bop, bop, bop, bop. Okay?

Alright, we’re almost there. So what we’re going to do is loop the step now. Okay? So how do we start the step? With our right leg. And what is up right now? Your right leg. So we’re going to loop it right now. After you do that four you’re going to go bop, bop, bop, bop and you’re going to start again. Da, da, da, da, da. Da, da, da doo, da. Da, da, da, da, da. Da, da, da doo, bop, bop, bop, bop, boom. Okay?

So now we’re going to do it slowly one more time from beginning. We’re going to loop it once and do it to the end, and then we’re going to do it full out. Okay? So you get the full capacity of it. So, slowly. Five, six, five, six, seven, and [dances]. Okay? So now we’re going to do it full out, normal speed. Hope you’re ready. Here we go. Ready? Five, six, here we go, and a five, six, five, six, seven, ho! And that’s how you do an advanced technical step.
