How to Use Feet & Legs in Technical Stepping

Transcript

Hi. My name is Vic Rochelle, and I am going to show you how to do contracting, and releasing, in power stepping.

When you’re doing party, your strolls in power stepping, you want to understand that you have a contraction right here, then you release in the air to stomp and contract again. Okay? The contracting helps you ground yourself, keeping you closer to the ground, and give you a harder stomp.

Sometimes people try to cheat, and do their power stepping, and their strolls up here. This ain’t going to cut it. I’m going to tell you why. Because if you contact, and get down with it, naturally you’re going to make a harder sound, and you’ll feel better about it. So you’re going to go. Okay?

Another reason why it’s important to contract when you’re doing these strolls is because, like I said, it’ll keep you grounded, and it puts less pressure on your ankles, and your knees. If you’re not contracted, and you’re kind of like standing up being lazy doing this power step, which is the wrong time to be lazy ever, you’re putting more work on your ankles and knees to make that equal sound that you do when you’re grounded. Okay?

Always understand it’s better to contract, release in the air, so you can contract even harder when you come down. That’s how you contract and release in power stepping.
