Types of Swing Music

Transcript

So what can you dance Swing to? What types of Swing music are there? Well, there’s Swing music like Big Band jazz, and the Swing rhythms that we think of when we think of, like. When we think of that really fast, upbeat. So a Lindy Hop might sound something like this.

It’s fast, jazzy. Now that’s a little fast for dancing West Coast Swing or East Coast Swing. East Coast Swing might have a little bit slower temper to it and have a little bit of a bounce to it. It would sound a little like this: [music]. It’s got that little pulse.

With West Coast Swing we tend to dance to something a little bit more either Blues oriented, like slow Blues, or Pop oriented, or Rhythm & Blues. And it would sound something like this. It’s a little more contemporary in its feel, more like something you’d hear on the radio today.

In closing, if you’re looking for Swing music and you want to dance Lindy Hop, it’s always good to go to that late 1920’s, 30’s, even into the 40’s Big Band era. If you’re looking for East Coast Swing, some of the bop music that you would have danced to in the 50’s. West Coast Swing you can do that with Rhythm & Blues, Blues music, all the way up to today’s current, contemporary Pop music.

There’s just a little information on how you can find good swing music.
