“My name is Jamal Cumberbatch. I’m Wilson Hong. And we are choreographers from the Eternity Dance academy. You can also check me and the other choreographers at eternitydanceacademy.com. So today were going to be teaching you Tutting are you ready? I am let’s go.
How to freestyle? What is freestyle? You freestyle when we dance [??] what ever comes out of your body, how you choose is decided, that’s your style freestyle.

Just loosening up. Just being free. Just using all the moves that you can think of at. All in different periods of time.

So when I make my choreography, I just don’t jump right in and just don’t start making my choreography. I listen to the music, I listen to what it’s saying , get the message and from there, I start moving my body listening to the words, listening to the musicality, hearing things and start working on different elements, like you know, surprising people.

[??] Pace, pace, pace. Let your mind go blank. Go, go freely. Don’t think too hard about it. Go with it. Get a good song. It doesn’t have to be a song. You could be listening to the birds chirping and you could be dancing to it. Just get, just fill it. Let the music move you.

There is no real science to your hip-hop, to your tutting, it’s a free style. It’s freely movement artistic ability which your mind is saying to the individual that’s standing in front of you. This is a mixture of hip-hop, freestyle dancing with tutting at the same time.

So you know how a freestyle dancer likes to be. Just doing hip-hop. He likes to draw the moves out. He likes to show the movements nice and sweet, using the footwork. Being able to draw the hands back out and lining the body up, building, transforming your movements, really nice and sweet. And there you have it, freestyle hip-hop movements with your tutting at the same time.”

My name is Jamal Cumberbatch. I’m Wilson Hong. And we are choreographers from the Eternity Dance academy. You can also check me and the other choreographers at eternitydanceacademy.com. So today were going to be teaching you Tutting are you ready? I am let’s go. So in tutting, you know you just see all these. I will explain to you what you are moving and what parts of your body is incorporated with it. So, you have your hand that is one of the arm parts in tutting. Hands obviously is the finger touch, you see that, right? Next arm part is wrist, you will be able to rotate your wrist all around, try to draw a whole circle, okay? Rotate your wrist, bending it, and reaching away. I will give you example. Rotating it, rotating the wrist, now learn how to move them. Next arm part in tutting is your elbows, you got to understand that you have to be able to rotate them at least 180 degrees, you see that, so if you can do this you can bend it, rotate up, bend it, rotate down, focus on these, they are the key. Next arm part is shoulders, you want to be able to do this, this is a pretty good exercise and may seem simple, but is very good, backwards too, also isolate them, just like that. Next arm part is your whole arm obviously, they want to be able to travel, this is tutting, you know that this is tutting, this is a very simple tutting, but it is tutting, so let’s make some match of arm parts. I will give you an example, have your arm straight out like this, okay, what I am doing here is I am bending my elbow plus I am bending my wrist, I will just bend my elbow a little bit like this, this is I am bending my wrist along with this, it is going to look like this like you do tutt. You know _____. You can also go up, out, back to there, wrist, down, elbow, wrist, just like that, so get creative with it, make some match of your arm parts and just figure it out, it is a puzzle, hands, wrist, elbows, shoulders, and the whole arm, of course.

Psssht.

How to prepare for tutting!

So to get ready for tutting, you want to be familiar with your arm muscles. You want to be able to flex and stretch your wrist in certain ways. So I’m going to give you a couple of exercises and stretches to get familiar with your arm parts.

So for the first exercise, we’re going to have the arms out. Put one wrist down and one wrist up, now press them against each other. Hold them for at least 8 seconds because you want to get a good stretch. You should feel your muscles tensing up by now.

Once, your done stretching, hold them and slowly come out. Just like this.

Once your all the way out here, switch and press against each other again. Hold for another 8 seconds. Now hold them again, and slowly come out.

And that’s it. That’s exercise 1.

Exercise 2.

You’re gonna start out with your arms out.

Bend your elbow down, just like that.

Up.

Down.

Up. And down.

Now that you’re here, rotate that way.

Now bend your wrist forward. Back. Forward. Back. You could either rotate. Get comfortable with doing this because a lot of tutting requires this kind of movement.

You can either go up.

And that’s exercise 2.

Last exercise I have for you is simple and plain, just rotate your shoulders.

Rotate forward, do it 10 times.

Now do it backwards.

Once you get comfortable with it, start playing around with it.

Go different angles. Up. Down.

Go different ways, up, down, left, right, all that you can do. But get comfortable with it.

That’s exercise 3.”

So today were going to be teaching you Tutting are you ready? I am let’s go. So right now, we’re gonna show you basic tutting movements. All together, listen, are you ready? And here we go. And bam, there it is. That’s step 1, I love it. Do you like it? Step 2, sliding the hand up, just like that. Do you see the lines? Now, step 3, bringing it down. Nice clean, nice and sharp. Look at the angles, look at the arms. Step 4, sliding it all the way together. You’re gonna make a box there, like, a nice rectangular shape. Step 5, bringing the arms down, just like that. Clean lines. Now, let’s see step 6. Sliding the arms out, really nice clean lines also. Step 7, going back into the praise movement. There you have it, 7 basic steps. So this is basically a simple routine based of finger tutting that I will show you. First, I build a square, I slide it in, work with me now. Then I bring it up, and then I bring it down. Which, you see the box right there with my fingers, and we stack this on top. And stack, and stack. After that, I slide up, down, up, and bring my hands together. So, in a rhythm or routine, what I’m gonna do is, if I wanna bring my hands together, like, boom, and I show you the movements. And I bring my hands up, and I go into this movement, I lock it down, kinda like transformer. Shoulders, there you go, you’re transforming. Bring it up, stack that, stack that, boom boom ba. Make it clean, make it nice. Use all 10 fingers and make it happen.

My name is Jamal Cumberbatch. I’m Wilson Hong. And we are choreographers from the Eternity Dance academy. You can also check me and the other choreographers at eternitydanceacademy.com. So today were going to be teaching you Tutting are you ready? I am let’s go. How to pick a good tutting song. First, find a song you like, cause you don’t want to be trying to tut to a song that you’re pretty disturbed by. Definitely prefer Dubstep. Dubstep is just something one of a kind right now. I think a lot of people are going to be able to involve their music ability and dance ability into the dubstep sound that’s coming out right now. Dubstep music has so many different types of beats and it’s just, it’s enjoyable. You gotta find a good dubstep song and then once you have your tuts down, study your music, learn your dubstep song, and just destroy it. I like to listen to old school beats from the eighties. You get a little bit of energy or you get a little bit of involvement from the movie Breakin’, or Beat Street, or just the old school vibes of that New York City life. You know the cardboard, that, that kind of music, kind of like a so-sonic funk, earth wind, and fire. Even Michael Jackson has some song that you’ll really want to pop and you’ll really want to tut in. But now, with this new generation of having kinda like the dubstep beats, the European style music, that helps out so much more because then you can actually evolve your dance style into like a creative form of just, how should I say like, a really artistic ability of becoming something. If you’re trying to just practice your tuts, clean them up, pick a slow paced song. First start with slow paced, and eventually gradually make them faster and faster. That way you can control your tempo, your beat, your morphing, and all that good stuff. If you try and think of new ideas, find a really good song, but find it with certain sounds. Like maybe a roar, like a cat roar or something like that. Just something special to make you think out of the box. If you think out of the box with the music, then you can incorporate that into your tutting and you can get just a whole different style of tutting.

Jamal: What is Tutting?

Searich: Tutting, when you think about tutting you usually think about arms, upper body movements, with lines and angles and shapes and all that stuff. But what’s cool about tutting is what makes it special and not boring and, you know, able to watch over and over again is using your whole body with foot work, body control, illusions, time warfing, roboting, waving, such and such. You give the box illusion with your arms whether it’s with your elbows, wrist, fingers, of course. You can even go throughout your whole body and even create a box with your legs by bending it in certain ways. You can also do; I’ve seen b-boys do tutting with their legs while doing hand stands. So, it’s really basically a clean angle, straight lines, and obvious – boxes. Who all do I think about when I think about tutting? Think about Moon from I.aM.mE, Pharcyde from Supreme Soul, JayFunk, he just did that Samsung commercial. I incorporate tutting in my style, of course. I’ll throw it in every once in a while. Yeah,I kind of use it more as like an entertaining move, you know people to be sucked into it like, “”ohh, that looks really cool…ahh, hows he’s being so intricate and stuff””. I incorporate waves with my tutt, roboting. I always like to control my whole body whether I’m tutting, popping, roboting, body controlling; you know, it’s my style and I really enjoy it. It’s something fun and what’s cool about tutting is, if you’re, you can do it when you see me down. You know you can practice any time you want. You can be in class and finger tutting and that’s what’s cool about it cause you be so versatile and really practice it any way that you want – there’s no rules to it.”

So today were going to be teaching you Tutting are you ready? I am let’s go. How to Tut like Moon: First, practice. Practice your basic tuts. From there, try to think out of the box. Imagine, “ok, how can I go from a basic tut in to a different kind?” Get storylines, get whatever happens in your life and try and incorporate that with your tutting. His style is really intricate, that’s what he likes to do. He is super clean with his angles; his lines are just like impossible. He doesn’t even look human. He’s like robotic. But be intricate with your movement; he likes to think up different structures, different ideas. You can watch from any view and its kind of 3Dish. That’s what is really cool about it. He likes to make puzzles, like fit pieces together. He just has so many different shapes and styles and structures of tutting, finger tutting, and he moves his whole body with it. That’s what really makes it nice. So, to tut like Moon you have to have a library, like a whole inventory of tuts. You gotta have like an index, you gotta know where you’re going from finger tutting to regular tutting to your whole body. He uses all his movements with his tutting and its really fantastic.

Molly Cumber batch: How to.

Wilson Hong: Win a.

Molly Cumber batch: Tutting battle

Wilson Hong: Practice you got to practice, obvious to be good at anything you’ve got to practice, but what did Jamal say?

Molly Cumber batch: Making sure that you know musicality, know what songs and know what’s coming up next throughout the account of the music transition.

Wilson Hong: Learn your music, you’ve got to know read it, you got to understand it, you got to know what’s coming up and just be ready for it, once you have a touchdown you have a pattern and when you know what to do next, what’s coming up next you have got to combine them.

Molly Cumber batch: It’s all about being able to beat kill, beat kill not be killed, Beat, kill the beat off, do it really wide, do it really wise, do it really great and do it really smooth.

Wilson Hong: Get everyone sucked into your dance and just destroy it, it could be illusions, 3D, mime it could be what? As long as it is watchable and you understand what it is?

Molly Cumber batch: A kill off is like basically like the last ending movement, you know like someone has the last song to the major concert or the last joke to a really great comedy show, the kill off is all about the last movement, the last 8 movements of your tutting or your freestyle, being able to show people this is what the bang is, the big kaboom.

Wilson Hong: You could be doing badly the whole time but as long as you’ve got a kill off at the end, it changes the whole game around.

Molly Cumber batch: The kill off is the home run the slum dunk, the three pointer at the last second.

Wilson Hong: It’s over, you get the perfect kill off with the perfect beat, you have it down with your practice, games over.
Molly Cumber batch: For example as a the kill off say if I was like came out with my arms and legs out just like this, I might drop my ankle down, bring it back u, get it together, slide up, boom I killed you off just now with about two movements just all together as one.

So today were going to be teaching you Tutting are you ready? I am let’s go. Let’s go! Tutting A.K.A. King Tut. Tutting began with old school popping. It started with king tut of course. They named it after king tut because of the Egyptian hieroglyphics that looks like it. It’s pretty much inspired from it. Tutting is pretty much using the dance style of Egypt dance movements. Arms, shapes, just putting everything together. So with your arms you want to be able to create different angles and shapes. Wrist dropping, being able to transfer movements together and sliding. It’s kind of like a rubics cube and every color on a rubics cube is decided by the dancers choice of which style they want to incorporate with it. And they just mix it all up. That’s what you get from tutting. I mean you can go hip-hop ballet, jazz, roboting of course. All different styles of hip-hop. Popping waving, and all that stuff. So if you’re able to incorporate all those different dance movements and all those different technical attributes that comes with tutting, then you’ll be able to tut like king tut.

You wanna be able to have really good movement. You’ll be able to watch somebody, when they are popping their muscles they are showing the movements through their body, but it’s nice, clean and sharp. That’s popping, ok? So when you see the person flexing their arm and being able to show you, that’s what popping is all about. Being able to flex the muscles and joint. You wanna be able to see the muscle twitching and popping at the same time. That is great technique and great form. That is your popping there, OK? Then after that, you wanna be able to show the tutting that we’re gonna fuse together. Straight lines, good arms, everything is really nice and clean. While he is also doing that, if you saw the pop that he’s using in his arms, that’s the reason why you have popping and tutting mixing together just like water and cool-aid. So we gonna bring it together while he’s dancing in the movements he’s showing the flow, he’s showing different technique. Do you see how he is popping and locking and tutting and putting all the movements together? Nice clean angles, nice clean lines. Popping joints, muscles. Make you come alive everybody, make you come alive. That’s what you wanna see, he’s making it all come alive. Tutting and popping, that’s how you wanna do it.

Tips and Tricks:
So this is tips and tricks about Tutting. You want to be able to have really good smooth lines with really good smooth intricate movements. You want to be able to have that kind of character that’s just going to go in on somebody, make them just want to watch you even though they don’t want to see what you’re just going to demolish them with. The biggest thing is knowing your music. If you know your music, you’re going to be able to just continue to keep traveling. It’s like being on a highway with no traffic at all. Know your music. If you don’t know the music, you’re going to be in traffic because you’re not going to know what’s coming up next. So let it flow, jump into the nice smooth carpool lane and enjoy the ride. And make it basic. Don’t try to go all out the box because when you go all out the box it starts getting confusing.
You know, a really good thing to do is always having something to be able to fall back on. You know, some of the guys like to do wrist rolls, they like to just pop everything, get realigned, and if you have a good ‘A’ count or so that you already memorized, then that’s going to be able to get you into a good start or take you out of a motion so you can go into another start.
So, always have about three to four different basic movements that you can also transfer yourself into as you try to build your story with the music that you’re trying to show also. “

So today were going to be teaching you Tutting are you ready? I am let’s go. Waving in tutting. So, I’m going to tell you a little bit about the wave. Waving is basically having the illusion of snaking movement. Like a wave that you see in the ocean. That’s a wave, but if you were to be able to use it in your fingers and your arms and your body you’re creating a huge tsunami. And that’s what you want to do. Focus your mind on waving your body. Body roll from there if you want to go through a whole body roll if you want to start from your feet, knees, hips, wrists, elbows, shoulders. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. And that’s a body transfer in a wave. So, if I wanted to use my chest and say if I was going 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, then I’m going to have the whole body roll with the arms and shoulders. Create those motions then you’re going to have really nice flow in your ocean. Clean, intro cut, and great isolation. You see where he’s only moving certain parts of his body, but the rest of the bodies not moving so the hands could moving, but you don’t see the legs or the feet all together at one point, but then you will see the waves being created with his hands. Basically, if you’re able to go from the wrist to the elbows to the shoulders. You work on those. Popping the wrist, popping the elbow out, and popping your shoulders out you’re going to be able to have fluid form in your dance movement. That’s going to be able to create the wave.

So today were going to be teaching you Tutting are you ready? I am let’s go. Transitioning in tutting, okay. What this means is how do you go from tutting to finger tutting to digiting from waving. It just depends on which style you are, how do you go from one style to a different style. What it really is about is making sure that it is not obvious. If they will see that you are trying to setup, okay it is obvious that you are trying to do a different style. So what you can do is you can imagine certain ways, different kind of transitions, plans, and how you are going to get self from either waving, bodying, into tutting, you can even incorporate to what it looks like unanimity transitioning. So, I will give you an example, let’s say I was waving, right. If I am just waving, waving, waving, waving I come up and regain my tutt form so what I did was wave, wave up, and got into my tutt form, that is not too obvious and what really helps about that is I can just go straight from tutting _____, just like that, so here is an example of roboting to tutting. From here, I can start tutting while I am walking and just go straight into it. From here, I can even go back into waving, here is my tutt again and another robot, just make it clean, don’t make it too obvious and have fun with it, get imaginative, make illusions, do all whatever you want, you got a spin, it is up to you.

Botting is pretty much transforming yourself into a robot, in that robot slow-motion movement.

You’re basically taking yourself and going into a robot form and be able to like, really control everything that you’re doing.

Being able to lock the body, moving in a unique movement and being able to take your time, do not rush it and still be a little bit aggressive, but be patient.

We are going to be showing a nice format that you’re going to be using with your robot and using it with your tut.

Let’s show what you got clean, nice angles, making lines, and also going in to really great wrist rolls with his robot form. That is awesome. Really clean awesome. Now showing the joints popping at the same time, really nice, really relaxed, being patient and not rushing the movement.

So here you have it. Using your body in a unique robot form.”

A trick is just something that’s you know, very watchable and understandable, but it kinda have a little twist in the end. You could give the illusion of a box. But to, to tut like him, first of all you’ve got to get your tutting and your finger tuts down, and have them clean. What makes him special is his musicality. Musicality is being able to hit like a verse. Like if you’re saying, if the word was saying, we’re going somewhere, you want to be able to build your body on what is going. So you want to give an illusion of what your hearing in the music. Learn your music, you gotta you know, read it, you gotta understand it, you gotta know what’s coming up and just be ready for it. So today were going to be teaching you Tutting are you ready? I am let’s go. Pharside, wow. This guy can go on and on and on forever. I have worked with them, I have danced with this guy, he is amazing, so you really want to watch what he can do. He continuously keeps it going. I mean, you want to talk about library, he can go non stop because he really understands transitioning, he knows how to go from certain tutt to different tutt and he can keep going on that. He will rotate the wrist, he will just keep going, keep going, keep going, so you want to tutt like Pharside we are going transitioning, not only that we are going to tutt, get every angle you can, every single angle because he knows every single angle and learn how to transition from that tutt to different tutt, different forms, different shapes, different structures. You got to watch his waves, his waves, arms, I mean he can come out, he can draw the arm out, he can move the whole body coming into that and that is something that he really stuck to just like one of the signature moves that Pharside really brought into the game, you know he has tons of signature movements, but you will see him do really well when it comes to waves. So what you should be doing, you want to bring the arm up, he brings the arm up really nice and smooth and he rotates that all the way around, all the way around, he can rotate all the way around and come back and kill it off, I mean he knows how to use his whole body. I was able to, you know, I took something like that and incorporated into my dance and choreography because I look up to movements like that, so Pharside got some stuff.

Nice clean lines, nice clean angles, altogether. There you have it. Step two, bring in the arm down. Nice and lovely, nice and put together. Step three, bring in the hand up. Everything is nice and clean. Do that, I can give a hi-five if I want to. Give me five. There it is, nice and sweet. Step four, bringing the hand down. Do you like it? I love it. Step five. Clean, clean, lines. Angles, shapes. Net, we are going to take this baby. Step six, Did you see that? Lines. Work on that. Keep showing your lines everybody. And look at it in the angle at the same time. Step eight, there you have it again, another line. Nice, smooth and clean. You like it? I love it. Now, we are gonna be able to go to the second one. Jamal: Advanced Tutting Moves

Searich: What makes a tutting move advanced? It’s basically a basic move, but you just gotta add a little flavor to it. Be clean with it. Let’s for example, let’s say we’re doing this, right? Down, over, up, flip it over! You just made it advanced. It’s that easy. You’ve just gotta be clean, precise, add a little extra flavor in. You add waving, body, whatever you want to, but use your body, flow work.
Here. Here’s an example, okay? Let’s say we’re just doing this. I’m gonna add in my whole head with it. See, that just made it advanced. It’s that easy. Here’s a couple advanced moves I made up. [Demonstration]
So instead of just going one move at a time, I decided to do both. So you’ve got to isolate both arms, and it adds extra flavor, you know? I went both at a time, right here. I used flow work. I stepped together, came over, came out with a rotation, stepped back out show the hands. Used my arm to wave around my body. Catch face! Bloo! Twitch! Turn around, under, over, up, close. Mime, mime, catch! Down, wave, step, step! Magnetize watch! Up, and swa-ag!
Since there were two speakers in the video, I was uncertain whether to label them, or merely change paragraphs. I did both, figuring, it is easier for you to remove the labels if you don’t want them than to add them!”

So today were going to be teaching you Tutting are you ready? I am let’s go. Finger tutting basics. Finger tutting is basically a small miniature version of tutting. It’s basically tutting with the fingers. That’s why they call it finger tutting, dude. Make it nice. Make it neat. Make it fun. Make it enjoyable for yourself. So, being able to have just simple line just like I spoke about in tutting. Bring your hands together, sliding, making sure your lines look really nice and neat. So, what’s cool about it you can do pretty much anything you want with it because you have 10 fingers. Imagine how many different touch you can do with that with 10 fingers. So, we’ve got 2 routines for you all. What I like to do I like to have little baby L’s. I bring the L together. I make a box like a square. You see my square. Great, because I see it too. I draw it in I bring it up and then I bring it down. Now, you have another box. Then I’ll stack this. Stack it really slow. 1, 2, 3, and 4. Just like that. Now, he’s going to pass it along to me. From here what we’re doing is your going to open up your hands just like this. Make sure you keep your thumbs connected. Step 1. So, from here 1. Now, you’re going to bring it over and in front of this hand. 2. 2. Now, bring it down, 3 and you’re going to bring this hand over, 4. Let me show you that again. 5, 6, 7, 8. 1, 2, 3, 4. Now, you’re going to break that thumb connection that we have. You’re going to bring it down, 5. Open it up. Make that rectangle, 6. And right here’s going to be a little tricky. You’re going to close all of your fingers except for your thumb and your pinky. Just like this. And make that connection, 8. Okay. 2 baby boxes just for you. So, here we go. 1 and 2 and 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 boom.

I’ll tell you a little bit about myself, I’m the owner and artistic director of Eternity Dance academy, I’m an entrepreneur/musical artist and professional choreographer, first time I danced I was in Barbados and I was at a school called St. Elizabeth and I always wanted to learn how to do something and I felt like a flow going through my body and I just picked up and I just started to move with my body however I could so it was from one step to another step and now I’m making a million steps, I keep moving forward just like growing as it goes, so I never forget where I come from, that’s a big part of my life. I’ve been with Eternity dancing Company for over a year now, I’m originally from Warren Park, California I was born and raised there, I always thought dancing was entertaining and I guess one day I just got in to it, I always dance to myself but not until I got to the studio and really met the people here, because I am really open about dancing and willing to dance in front of them and now I do it professionally, you can also check me and the other choreographers at eternitydanceacademy.com.
