Dubai isn’t the most pedestrian-friendly city in the world, but there are plenty of other ways to get around.

Car rental usually isn’t too pricey, but driving in Dubai isn’t for the faint of heart. Traffic can be chaotic and accidents are common.

If you’d rather not be behind the wheel, don’t worry–taxis are affordable, easy to hail and they’re very safe.

Pink-topped taxis are only for women; the rest can be used by anyone.

Buses are also a cheap way to get to different parts of the city, but they aren’t always reliable and traffic can slow them down.

If you’d rather stay off the road altogether, the metro is another good option. The Dubai metro covers most of the major parts of the city, and is comfortable, safe, and very cheap.

Another common way of getting around is by boat. Abras are ferries used to cross the Dubai Creek. They’re inexpensive, and you’ll get a great view of the city along the way. There are also water buses for longer trips on the creek. These are a little pricier, but still affordable.

Dubai is an expensive city in general, but it’s easy to get around comfortably and safely for very little money.

As far as weather goes, Dubai really only has two seasons: hot, and unbearably hot.

Summers have average daily highs above one hundred degrees fahrenheit, with nights only cooling down to the mid-80s and the humidity can also be stifling.

Even the water is hot in the summer, so don’t expect swimming to cool you off unless you’re in a controlled-temperature pool.

The only escape from the summer heat is air conditioning. Thankfully, there’s plenty of that, but if you spend all your time indoors you’ll be missing out on a lot of Dubai’s attractions.

Visiting Dubai in the summer might be less expensive, but unless you want to spend all your time in hotels and malls, it’s not worth it.

On the other hand, from late October to early April, Dubai is the perfect getaway from the harsh winter weather in other parts of the world.

The humidity is much lower and temperatures are pleasant, with daily highs in the mid-70s and even cooler nights.

There’s only a small chance of rain, especially if you visit in October or November. And the water will be warm, but not hot. Dubai winters are perfect for the beach.

Book a few months in advance, and look forward to a warm winter vacation.

There’s a lot to see in Dubai — To start, don’t miss Khalifa Tower. At over 2,700 feet tall, it’s the tallest building in the world.

Also make sure you see the Tower of the Arabs. It’s been called the world’s first 7-star hotel. Even if staying there is out of your budget range, you can get inside with a reservation at one of the hotel’s restaurants or bars.

Aside from sights, Dubai is one of the best places for shopping. You should at least visit the Gold Market even if you don’t plan on buying anything. This historic market will dazzle you with its selection of valuables, and it’s also a great place for people-watching.

If you want to get a sense of what Dubai looked like before modernity took over, visit Bastakiya, the historic district. This is one of the only places in the city to see Dubai’s old traditional architecture.

You can also visit the Dubai Museum to learn even more about the city’s history.

The Jumeirah Mosque is also worth visiting to experience authentic Islamic architecture.

And, finally, when you’ve had enough of the city, head out to the the open desert. You can take a tour on camelback or speed over the dunes in four wheel drive vehicles.

Whether you’re looking for fun, history, or shopping and city life, Dubai has it all!
