Kuala Lumpur isn’t the best place to drive. Traffic can sit still during rush hours, signs can be confusing, and some drivers are dangerously reckless.

Outside of rush hours, taxis aren’t a bad way to get around, but be prepared for your driver to want to negotiate on the price. It’s a good idea to research the current normal flat rates for taxi rides before you visit Kuala Lumpur. Taxis can be found at taxi stands, hailed on the street, or reserved in advance through some services.

You can also easily get around by train. There are a few different lines and they cover most of the parts of the city you’ll want to visit, and fares are always inexpensive.

The trains are especially useful during rush hours, when most other modes of transport will be stuck in traffic jams.

The public bus network is inconsistent enough that casual travelers shouldn’t bother with it, but Kuala Lumpur also has special sightseeing buses.

These are a good option if you want a tour of the city.

But one of the best ways to see Kuala Lumpur is to walk– as long as you avoid the hottest part of the day. The historic center is compact and easy enough to navigate.

Kuala Lumpur may not be the easiest city to get around, but as long as you follow some basic advice, you’ll get around just fine!

Kuala Lumpur’s weather doesn’t change much, no matter what time of year it is.

Average high temperatures are in the high 80s and low 90s, and average lows are in the mid-70s.

It’s also always humid and rainy, and if you really want to avoid the worst of the wet weather — avoid the rains and flooding of monsoon season. Monsoon season lasts from late September to early May. But if you can stand some rain in exchange for cooler temperatures, monsoon season isn’t such a bad time to visit. After showers, there’s typically a dip in temperature.

From June through August, Kuala Lumpur sees the least rainfall, but humidity and heat remain high.

Weather aside, Kuala Lumpur isn’t an especially expensive city to visit, but holidays will usually mean higher prices, plus crowds.

When planning your trip, you may want to schedule according to holidays and festivals — either to join in or avoid them altogether. Do your research and book ahead of time to be sure you’ll get the experience you want.

The best time to visit Kuala Lumpur depends on your personal preferences.
